The food was good. Lovely smoked cheese soufflé, nice steak but the service was poor. The staff were surly and stand-off-ish. They did not seem to know what was going on and there was a 45 minute wait between our starters and mains which when looking around seemed to be because a group of 14 who arrived after us were being served before us but no apology or message the the kitchen was busy. The cost was high but then I appreciate good steak costs and the dark, loud, atmosphere was more irritating than vibrant.

My wife and I went for dinner two nights ago and decided on the Slaughterhouse. We ordered drinks at the bar and were shown to our table by our wonderful waitress, Holly. The menu is quite short. (I like that, do a few things well is a great philosophy.) I chose a roast rack of lamb cooked PINK while my wife chose barbecue pork ribs. I received two lamb chops cooked grey, with a couple of bits of veg. The spinach was excellent. I wasn't expecting a full rack of twelve ribs, let's not be silly. But two? Not really a rack is it. My wife's barbecue pork was a lot of ribs, covered in a thick, sweet claggy, out-of-a-jar sauce. Not bad, but a long way from good. My wife finished her meal with an Eton mess. A frivolous pudding of meringue, cream and strawberries. Or as she received, a red sludge with some squirty cream and red stuff on it. There were a few bits of tired meringue hidden in the sludge and half a dozen raspberries on it. No lightness, no frivolity. My coffee was great. I really don't like giving this review as Sunday Dinner at the slaughterhouse is pretty much perfect and the takeaway during lockdown was a lifesaver. I'll see you guys again on a Sunday, but not during the week.

Visited here for dinner one evening on our honeymoon and so glad we did! To start we had scallops with black pudding and this has to be one of the best dishes I have ever eaten! We even checked the lunch menu to see if we could go back and have them for lunch one day. As our mains we had the Asian spiced chicken burger, and a beef burger. Both were huge and neither of us could finish our mains but they were delicious! To finish we had blueberry Eton mess and some sorbet and the staff somehow knew it was our honeymoon so they brought out some berries and brownie on a decorated plate. Staff were amazing as well, it was a lovely evening.

Went on a Wednesday night and the upstairs was full, the downstairs less so. The front of house team were very pleasant but sadly the food wasn’t. Me and my girlfriend both ordered a burger - the buns for the burgers were dry and stale and the meat didn’t taste like meat. It tasted like a cheap frozen burger and was very over cooked- we weren’t even asked how we wanted our burgers done and the manager said that apparently all burgers have to be well done; if that’s the case then why do you get a choice with steaks which are also beef?! All in all really disappointing and would definitely not go back or encourage others to do so as there are plenty of other great places to eat in Guernsey

Where to begin? We were seated, our starters arrived potted pork and chicken drumsticks. The drumsticks were very tasty but under cooked. The corn salad was over smoked. The potted pork was very clearly old and frankly inedible. It took at least 20 minutes for the servers to take the starters away. We were asked what was wrong and we explained. The server then enquired “is it just not to your taste?” We answered no, it’s not good. The mains arrived, a shredded pork sandwich which was nice, putine which was very underwhelming and pork cheeks with chorizo mash and whole grain mustard jus. The pork cheek was cooked well, the mash was cold, under seasoned and didn’t have any chorizo taste. The jus was thin, tasteless except for an acidity which to me screams that it wasn’t reduced. We were in the process of eating when yet another server walked up to our table. Is it ok? I said no, she then proceeded to interrogate me. Well what’s wrong, is it not just your taste. I tried to explain what was wrong, she interrupted me, told me it was a mushroom gravy, that’s not what it said on the menu! She was verbally aggressive and totally unprofessional. In short as my blood started to boil and my eye balls where nearly resembling that of a pug I waved her away (yes rude but the alternative would have been far worse for her) I said yeah just not for me. We were over charged for drinks, the bar man confirmed this when we got the second round. No offer of refunding the difference we paid. Just a shrug of the shoulders, the potted pork wasn’t charged but everything else was ignored. As we sit at the bar my partner observes the staff pointing at us and chattering, shooting us death stares. So just to clarify we came to Guernsey to celebrate my partners birthday, which is today and we are treated with contempt by 90% of the huge number of staff on the floor. In short I won’t be back!

the building was interesting and the menu was ripped of from trendy London burger bars, I opted for the Lobster salad, honestly I've had more salad as a garnish for a sandwich! requested more salad, serving staff seemed unable to understand me, I also asked for bread and butter, surely they could get that right? no! every single request made turned into a debate, followed by a colleague then coming for further debate - seriously poor. I have a lot of foodservice experience, the menu was overpriced (accept this is Channel Islands), food was average at best, but customer service was lamentable. It did seem popular with trendy locals, but if you're looking for a meal with decent customer service avoid the slaughterhouse - aptly named?

What an unfriendly place! I walked in at opening time (12 noon) for a quick lunch, only 4 other people there, to be told ‘we don’t accept walk-ins’, so if you haven’t booked a table you can’t eat here! I asked about the open deck, that said order at the bar, to be told ‘you can’t eat up there as we won’t bring it up. While I appreciate booking a table, I have never heard of a restaurant not having space for walk-ins, nor have I experienced such utter contempt from a member of the hospitality industry. Had the restaurant been busy, I would have understood, however it was empty the staff were standing about. The overall tone was bugger off if you have not booked!

Was really looking forward to this as we love the kind if food that they do. We eat and cook a lot of american style food and eat at a lot of smokehouses in america so ordered the platter of smoked meats for 2 Well it was awful. Completely overcooked , chicken wings were burnt black as they had a coating on. They were so small i couldn't work out what they were at first. Completely inedible. Ribs wete tough and so overcooked the meat had shrunk on the bone and was so dry. Everything was just awful. We bith decided we coukdnt est it and was going to go back to our hotel. We waited ages for someone to actually come and see if we were ok/needed another drink etc and when someone finally came over we explained we werent happy and wanted the bill and were leaving she said she was getting the manager. He came over and we explained about the meal. He agreed with us it was not right. He asked if they could make us another. We agreed and eventually got another. It was better than the first but still not great. Very dry. It was very hard to get any service for drinks also as hardly any servers around. Was very disappointed after looking forward to eating here as its so lovely inside and could work really well.

Book for lunch at 2pm with my partner and and 4 year old. Ordered 2 starters and 2 roasts for the adults and a kids fish and chips to come out with our starters. After 50 mins our two starters came out and a kids chicken's and chips came it, we said to the waitress who served us the kids should of been fish she agreed that's what we ordered. We could swap but might be another long wait for the child! After another 40mins our roasts came which were dry, in that time we had asked 3 different waitresses for some mayonnaise for the child, eventually it came. I will also add that this place was not busy. Waitress just stood talking to each other and I don't know what goes on in the kitchen. Location amazing but lacking in service and food. AVOID

Tempting looking Menu with a variety of options. The staff where attentive and nice. The food [burger] was good. What brought the experience down is the way the burger is served in a tin tray, save that for Easy pub eating and because with the burger is basic and any thing extra you have to add and pay even more for, so becomes quiet pricey.

Star restaurant in Guernsey and serves best beef around. Ribs are super large portion and very tasty and are excellent value for money at £10 ordered from the bar. Oil neck IPA is pretty good beer and is a must try in this very trendy bar and restaurant. Recommend that you book.

Beautifully styled restaurant with friendly bar staff and a lovely atmosphere. My cheese soufflé starter was light and delicious. However, my main course of ribs was so dry and overcooked that it was inedible. My husband chose skate wing with a butter sauce which arrived as a chunk of fish in a batter of some sort and completely dry. Nobody came to ask if our food was okay, and when the waitress came once we had to put our knives and forks down and asked how our meal was, we informed her that it had been too dry to eat. The manager arrived and we discussed this with him. He agreed that the ribs were very overcooked and he said that the skate wing had been rolled. My husband pointed out that there was no reference to this on the menu, and therefore that was not what he was expecting, but it was mainly that it was extremely dry. we then received the bill which had been discounted by a third for the main courses. When we asked to speak to the manager again, the waitress, who was extremely professional and polite at all times, said that he was “busy“ and that if we did not pay the revised bill, she would have to make up the difference. We said this seemed ridiculous and she said that “”someone” would have to pay for the difference. She disappeared again and reappeared with a further discount – not the whole amount of the main courses - and we paid the bill. It was quite shocking that the manager was prepared to allow a young waitress to have to deal with the situation when he should have been the one speaking to us. We told her she was in no way to blame and that it was quite shocking that he would put her in that position. What a disappointing end to what could have been a lovely evening – it really did not matter that we had not eaten much, and when the manager had said that he welcomed constructive criticism and they could always do better, he clearly didn’t mean any of those words.

My wife and I decided to go back to the Slaughterhouse because of the good reviews. We went a couple of years ago for Sunday lunch but the food was awful, I had roast beef, every part of which was burnt and my wife had mussels that were inedible due to the amount of sand. Anyway, we went back yesterday and stood waiting to be seated, a girl came to the till but didn't say anything, then another one came and stood like a ball girl at Wimbledon, motionless. By now more people had arrived and were queuing behind us. The second girl looked at us as though to ask what do you want, so asked her if we were okay where we were and did they have any free tables? She asked me if we'd booked and I said we hadn't but there were lots of free tables. This girl then proceeded to ignore us for the next couple of minutes after saying she was busy. After no further communication and the queue behind us getting bigger we decided to leave. Maybe these two girls were busy but they're attitude was poor and obviously no very well trained. You don't ignore customers, even if you are busy, you can say," I'm sorry we're a bit busy I'll see to you in a moment". nobody minds queuing for a while but to leave people just standing there, not knowing whether they are doing the right thing was actually a bit embarrassing, we didn't know whether to ask or not and when we did, we were made to feel as though we were an inconvenience to her.

I had a really enjoyable Saturday evening meal here and would love to return. It’s half bar, half restaurant, but throughout there’s a great atmosphere with really nice modern decor and great staff. Despite being a lone diner I wasn’t made to feel rushed and the different members of staff made me feel really welcome. There’s only a couple of choices of wine / red wine available by the glass but the service time was always quick which was great. There’s a decent range of food on the menu which the staff seemed knowledgeable about, although unfortunately my first choice of monkfish wasn’t available. Instead I opted for the sharing platter, which they also offer in a portion size for one - don’t be fooled though, it is still very large! Despite it being a slab of various meats the presentation was surprisingly good and the flavours equally as impressive. An additional option of vegetable or similar wouldn’t have gone amiss, perhaps two corn cobs instead of the one, but otherwise it was great. No room for desert afterwards! There’s a decent amount of seating outside in a courtyard too so it’s a restaurant for all occasions and, considering the level of service and atmosphere, I felt the prices were reasonable. I’ll certainly be returning next time I’m in the town.

I didn’t even get to go inside. This restaurant was pretty much hostile towards a solo traveller. Granted, I did not have a booking. But neither did the couple in front of me who were courteously shown a table whit I was told but an abrupt waitron to “find something outside”. Disgraceful!
