This was our first chance to visit this restaurant during a holiday in Brixham - and I think it was the best fish and chips I have ever eaten.
Until now, I would have said my favourite fish and chips were served up on the north east coast - but the meal at Simply Fish beat them.
Yes, there are many many places where you can buy fish and chips cheaper - but the quality here is worth paying for if you are able to push the boat out.
The restaurant was busy but we were seated quickly and by a smiling waitress.
She took out order promptly and was helpful and knowledgeable. We ordered fish and chips and a bottle of French dry white wine. I also ordered a side of curry sauce.
If you wanted something different from fish and chips the menu is extensive and offers lots of choice.
The restaurant was prettily decorated for Christmas and the background music was a playlist of great tunes.
Our meals and the wine came quickly. The wine was well-chilled and a perfect accompaniment to the meal. The food was piping hot and the portions were big. As she brought them to the table the waitress smiled and said jokingly, 'Here are your whales!'
The batter was crisp and tasty. The fish was white and full of flavour. The chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. It came with delicious homemade tartar sauce and a chunk of fresh lemon. Luckily we were hungry and did it full justice. But we did not have room for a dessert, even though the selection on offer on the winter menu was tempting,
I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu.

The restaurant is done out very well, plenty of room and you can see out to the sea with the full glass windows. Once we ordered it took longer than what l thought it would to receive our meal considering the fish and chips are already cooked. The fish was nice and white and taste was good the chips were ok. The only downside was the price as other people have already stated in other reviews, £16.75 each for fish and chips £33.50 for two without any drinks. Been once would not go again other chip shops in the area

We ordered prime fish and chips and mussels in garlic and wine. The haddock was the softest and most white, succulent haddock I have ever eaten from a fish and chip shop/restaurant. I’m not a fan of batter so left half but that’s me , the fish was delicious. The mussels were soft and cooked in a tasty wine and garlic broth with toasted bread. I had the sav blanc New Zealand Orchard Lane with my meal which complemented it well. Our waitress was attentive and we liked she had a sense of humour. Food was served quickly and the takeaway orders were busy. Nice reataurant.

We come here once a year on our annual trip to this area, and have always felt it is the best fish and chips we've had. This time, however, was really disappointing. I don't know if the management/chef has changed, but the grilled fish was reported very bland, when in previous years, it had been a perfectly cooked delight, the two fried fish and chips were reported good, but not great, but the real disaster was the vegan burger- now, I know this a fish restaurant, but, people obviously go here with people who are vegetarian- there was one single vegie option, which was this burger, so I took it and it was awful; the weirdest patties I have ever tasted, plus a bun toasted so rock hard it was inedible. The chips and onion ring were good though. It's a shame, in previous years there have been several veggie options, including a really good curry and halloumi, etc. Overall , the whole menu appears to have gone downhill and at close to £20 for fish and chips, you'd expect better.

I had to order at the counter as the waitresses did not welcome me or take my order. I then chose the lunch time fish and chips as it was only just after midday, and enjoyed it. I then asked for the bill and was charged £18. I queried this as this price was in the menu for the dinner service in the evening and the waitress/owner - a foreign lady - argued with me, saying I had not stated I wanted the lunch time fish and chips. The restaurant was quiet as the lunch period had only just started so there was no confusion about the time. If it had been after 3pm I would have stated lunch time, but it was only just after 12. We won't be going back.

Really expensive and not much food. We ate at 5pm and the noise was horrendous. Service was slow. The food was tasty but there wasn’t much of it. You won’t leave feeling full! The toilet was also in need of a clean. Unisex toilets just don’t work!
The main reason for our review was feeling ripped off. Our teenage son wanted battered sausage, beans and chips but it was only on the kids menu. Waitress said they could do an adult portion. We were charged £12.95 for the sausage and chips and £2.25 for a portion of beans!
Our daughter had the children’s fish and chips. The menu stated it was suitable up to the age of 12. The portion was tiny. The smallest bit of fish and 17 chips! The ice cream that was part of the deal took ages to come and was dumped in front of her with the bill.
The food was tasty but honestly if you are eating with family I’d save your money. We went there as a treat but it felt like a canteen with no atmosphere. There was a chippy around the corner doing cones of chips for £2. We all agreed that actually that would have been a better option for us!
The other more expensive meals did look lovely but if you are looking for a classy atmosphere then this place isn’t it.

Nice looking place, unfortunately that's where it ends for me. Visited for the first time and won't be going back. OVER £57 for two adults to leave hungry is not great. (3 meals, 1 child's meal and 3 pepsi's were purchased) Fish and chips, hardly any fish in the batter and a very very small portion of chips, so essentially batter and childs chips. Burger and a very small portion of chips, burger had a weird grey colour to it and wasn't pleasant tasting so after 2 small bites it was left, chips tasted really oily. We did tell the waitress who just mumbled 'sorry'. To be fair it wasn't her fault.
I was wondering why that establishment was very quiet and everywhere else was busy, wish I had waited elsewhere. Maybe it was a bit of an off day but sadly I left feeling hungry and ripped off.
Then when I left my honest review on Google, the owner gave a rude and sarcastic reply with no apology, having since read some other reviews I do see a pattern with his replies. So again, yes I felt ripped off because the meals were disgusting and we left hungry.

Popped in to grab lunch as a take away but decided to sit in restaurant instead. We chose from special winter menu and we had two courses for £16 each. Blown away by the quality, better than many true restaurants. I had whitebait followed by the best ever mussels in a rich cream, white wine sauce with beautiful fries on the side. My wife had deep fried panko coated camembert served with lovely salad and jelly followed by fish and chip. The wine selection was also very good and service was fantastic. Certainly far superior to the meal we had at a fish chain restaurant in Exmouth with friends a few weeks back. Great value for money and stunning food.

Well disappointed isn't the word. As I always eat fish on a easter Fridsy. Going to simply fish was a must .we have been here on several occasions and have always had a great meal. But not this Friday.. it was busy and we were taken to our table no.ptoblem ordered our starters of Camembert and French onion soup .the soup was very watery not as good as I had had prevoustly halfway through our starters our mains arrived .which were taken back whilst we finished to be then given these starters which had been kept warm. The chips were cold and I only eat one .the fish had no taste st all with the batter not crispy as prevoustly .so very disappointed as we had come over from Newton Abbot to just eat here..we might as well had gone to weatherspoons for fish and chips to be honest and paid alot less....as for the waitresses sorry but no customer service from them after a very disappointed meal I was still willing to pay a tip..after asking for the bill. To be snapped whist saying to her to put a tip she had to get a card reader...then sending someone else to take the money
I still as a very nice lady gave them tip ..but sorry won't be back.

We had the lunch special haddock and chips, the fish was nice but the chips were terrible. Obviously not freshly made, hard and overcooked it ruined the lunch that we had looked forward to. The chips were virtually inedible and we left most of them making it a very expensive lunch.
On paying the bill we complained to the staff about the chips but they were not interested and did not offer any apology.
We were the only customers in the place and now I know the reason why, we won’t be going back.

We called in here last Friday for lunch after seeing their lunch offer @ £16 per person for 2 courses.
Friendly staff and quick service.
The garlic mushrooms were delicious. We both then had the home-made steak and ale pie. This was very tasty but the pastry was slightly over cooked. Large portions and lovely clean restaurant.
However, we were VERY disappointed to have a 10% service charge added to our bill. We would've left a tip anyway, but prefer it to be our choice.

Had great expectations for this place following recommendations by friends.
Service was friendly. We chose the lobster and fish and chips.
One of our party is gluten free.
The lobster was nice but the garlic butter was a bit insipid and would benefit from more garlic.
The cod was lovely but the batter was too crispy which dried out the fish a bit.
Chips were average.
Overall it was an okay experience.
As a point of note;
If you offer gluten free, as you should in this day and age then do it properly.
Buy a small bench top fryer and use that solely for gluten free food Inc chips. It's not expensive and you can add a small charge to compensate the additional cost involved.

We came here after a recommendation. We were not disappointed. Really nice polite staff. Daily specials on top of normal menu. I had pan fried squid in garlic butter to start, then whole Brill both were cooked and presented beautifully. My wife had the small fish and chips again really well portioned and presents.

We got a boat over from Torquay to explore Brixham, the one thing we wanted to try was the fish and chips. We come across this restaurant that looked clean and friendly. We walked in to see if there was a table available, was told yes as there seemed to be lots of spaces. The table was clean and the food that was coming out looked fresh. We ordered fish and chips and sat back and waited. We noticed everyone else was Teignbridge there food before us, but jus5 thought the kitchen was busy. 45 minutes later and still no food, we asked the waitress what has happened as we need to catch the boat, She said maybe our order was lost and we can have a takeaway 🤷♀️
Very confusing comment, and very disappointing as it was what we were looking forward to.
I can’t rate the food, as we didn’t get any and had to leave. I know things happened but you would of thought the waitress would check with the kitchen.?
Sadly we won’t be returning to that restaurant.

We pre-booked as it was a peak bank holiday weekend; glad we did as the restaurant was rammed. Waitresses were really friendly and helpful with menu choices. Our starters included king prawns and tempura battered oysters - both looked and tasted amazing. Our mains included fish and chips, seafood soup, catch of the day and a chicken burger. Everyone cleared their plate and said that they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. This place is worth a visit if you’re in Brixham. It’s best to pre-book if it’s peak time and you want to have dinner there, but it also offers a takeaway service for fish and chips all day.
