I'd say for and a half stars would be more accurate, as the room was very good (cozy and quiet) and the food surprisingly good, both dinner and breakfasts (let me just say I had the best fired eggs I've ever eaten). The pub had...a strong selection of tasty ales and all the people from the manager, the waitresses, and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly, kind, and professional: one of our best stops/meals during our five weeks in England!More

A misty rather spooky day on Dartmoor was brightened up by a glorious lunch in front of an open fire at The Rock Inn. The food was outstanding - my guinea fowl was superb and hubby’s steak and chips were perfectly cooked. We both finished with...rhubarb in many forms - not too sweet, pretty and very tasty. They have an excellent wine list too! Service was efficient and friendly. Any down sides? The ladies loos are very small and close to the ground! Great if you are a child not so great if you have false hips. The grab rail helped but the lack of space made manoeuvring very tricky! Will we go again? Absolutely but must make sure that I don’t need the loo!More

We were looking forward to lunch here, having visited some years ago. We were seated into the conservatory' area which did not feel as welcoming and warm as the bar areas. We were disappointed with the very slow service - 2 hours for 2 courses....The food was ok but it surprised me that the restaurant had two AA rosettes as I do not think the quality of the food was outstanding. The water arrived at the table in a bottle already opened and at a cost of £3.95 per bottle. Having waited for the bill for quite a while, we were surprised that the discretionary service charge had been added at the cost of £74!. Although this was a mistake I really didn't think the discretionary service charge should have been included as the service was pretty poor. I have seen many positive reviews on this restaurant so it could have been that we were just unlucky on the day.More

We enjoyed a Saturday lunch at this excellent establishment. Friendly welcome and warm service throughout. They clearly take pride in what they’ve got and how they do things. Excellent food and a nicely varied menu. Good fixed price lunch menu which although limited did not...disappoint. Have been to the place several times before and we really enjoyed this return visit. Highly recommended.More

We booked evening meal during our stay at The Rock Inn, and were so glad that we opted to 'eat in'. The menu offered something for eveyone, without being so extensive as to compromise quality, and they offered offered regular 'specials'. As much as possible...is locally sourced (the stone bass was excellent!), and the complimentary 'amuse bouche' was a lovely way to start the evening meal. The wine list is comprehensive and very well chosen: the St Joseph that my husband chose one night was amazingly good. We know that, as a result of Covid, the staff were occassionally stretched - but the quality and friendliness of the service never faltered. The restaurant was often fully booked - a testament to its quality and atmosphere.More

Spur of the minute decision to have a Sunday lunch at the Rock. This is a very olde worlde unspoilt location. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. We both had roast beef which was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The pub is hidden...away down a quaint narrow street with great views over Dartmoor. Highly recommendMore

Last week we had to make a mad dash to Toruay staying the night, could I find accommodation last minute mid August - could I heck. Unless I booked the Premier Inn or Travel Lodge for £210pn! Not knocking them at all (as I said...mid August and they have had over a year with not many guests) but not what I was looking for at that price. Looked further away and managed to book the last room at The Rock Inn. We were made very welcome and taken to our twin room with, what looked like, a fairly new bathroom. I was a bit dubious when looking at some pics on their web site but our room was very nice. It was lovely old fashioned accommodation ( nothing wrong with that) with modern ensuite. Dark, cosy, welcoming room with view over the garden and in a quiet little village surrounded by Dartmoor what more could one want - well good food actually! We went down for supper and were greeted by a very atmospheric room in candlelight- very Daphne Du Maurier! The staff were excellent and the food really good. We were so glad we stayed at the Rock Inn instead of Torquay. A good breakfast and a very quite nights sleep - thank you Rock.More

6 of us in this lovely cosy, wood panelled, candle-lit dining room on a filthy, stormy July evening (very Agatha Christie!). We weren't tempted by the starters, so stuck to the "Nibbles" section for something to start. All were delicious; battered whitebait with curry dip,...fried halloumi strips, chicken nuggets. Mains were also really good, particularly the chicken supreme and plaice. And we got a surprise complimentary amuse-bouche of vegetable velouté to start! Staff were charming, very friendly and efficient.More

Meal (Bream with fennel and lemon risotto) was perfectly cooked and well presented. Service was professional and friendly. Dessert creative and delicious. Would pay a return visit if in the area again. Great view of Hay Tor on our way there which was a bonus.
