Thanks Mike!
The amazing team at Riverford know how to make the most unprepossessing vegetable a star. Subtle flavours, a feast for the eye, expert cooking and imaginative menu creation. We loved the casual-yet-professional vibe, the plentiful courses which just kept coming and the feeling of feasting...without ever being over-full. As vegans, being able to eat through the whole menu, and still have a choice of desserts was very exciting. We would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting a culinary feast.More
Thank you very much for those kind words. Hope to welcome you back soon.
A very good meal, but—-no diet tonic! No catering for diabetic needs! Unbelievable they cater for gluten free, and lactose free, but not sugar free. We had a very good lunch overall, but appalled that when we asked for light / diet tonic, we were...told, “ We don’t cater for diabetics.” This was not just disappointing but irrational , not even sweetener for coffee. There are so many people who now want to take care of their health by cutting down on sugar, and Riverford pretends to be healthy! No, not good at all.More
Thank you very much for your review and I'd glad you enjoyed your meal overall. To address the diet tonic issue - firstly I do hope that the response from our team was not 'we don't cater for diabetics' as we do regularly cater for...More
Riverford has been on my list for many years. We had a weeks holiday in South Devon and had our last lunch there. Five plus a baby. It was worth the long wait. Great staff, lovely wholesome, flavourful food and good drinks list. The whole...family thought it was excellent value as well.More
Thank you! Hope we're on the visit list on your next trip to devon!
We went for Sunday lunch. The food was superb, couldn’t fault anything I cannot recommend this highly enough
This has been one of my favourite places to eat for years, but my most recent trip left me disappointed and a bit embarrassed having built up the experience to the friends I was meeting there. It could have been an off day but the...changes to the style of service and the structure of the meals leads me to conclude that cost cutting has ruined the experience. Or maybe they lost the staff who made it what it was. Dining here used to be special. This time was average and even austere by comparison. The portion sizes and number of dishes served have reduced considerably. We were served just a couple of starters, none of which were particularly good, on tiny plates. The food was forgettable and the dishes badly paired with no thought to texture. With the exception of one side dish served with the main, none lived up to the old standards. The vegetarian mains have ironically always been the let down here, I have never had a good one despite eating here more than 15 times. On this occasion it was truly bland and boring. The desserts are nothing like they once were: they used to be indulgent and special, with tons of custard or cream on offer and split portions available. The surprise at the end of the meal of being asked to go and choose your dessert was exciting and perhaps covid put an end to that, but for a while the desserts continued to be amazing and the sticky toffee pudding was famous. Now the desserts, while fine, are just very small portions of basic cake with very small garnishes of compote or the like. Eating here used to be indulgent and exciting, but this time it was average, rushed and forgettable, and hugely disappointing compared with the previous experiences. We ate all the food we were given and were all hungry again within 2 hours of leaving and I probably won't be coming back unless I hear that things have improved.More
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your experience at the Field Kitchen. Whilst things have changed over the years, we certainly don't aim for austere so apologies for that being the impression you left with. There will undoubtedly be marked changes from when we served communally...More
Riverford Field Kitchen is my favourite restaurant. I have eaten there 4 times and have already booked for this Christmas. Fresh seasonal food cooked to perfection. Fantastic venue and very welcoming staff
Thanks. See you at Christmas!
If seated inside great but a September evening is not good without heating - the day was really hot
Many thanks for leaving us a review. Sorry you felt the chill when you dined with us. We do provide blankets for guests as we try to limit our environmental impact hence no heaters. Hope to see you again soon - inside!
This is my absolute favorite place to go, fantastic surroundings, lovely staff and amazing tasting food, however I do think the portion sizes are getting smaller and this was a let down for me on my last visit.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're so glad you continue to enjoy dining with us, and do appreciate your coming back time and time again. I will pass your portion size concern onto our kitchen team.
This is our go to restaurant, the food is always delicious, freshly cooked and inventive. The restaurant is rustic and charming and the staff wonderful and attentive. It is so much better than the majority of restaurants in Devon which are either french and fussy...or microwaved out of the freezer and chips with everything.More
Many thanks for the wonderful review. So glad you enjoy dining with us and enjoy our vegcentric menu. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Had a lovely brunch very tasty excellent coffee and nice surroundings, great service, slight niggle, dessert could of done with a dollop of Devon clotted cream, a bit dry.
Many thanks for your review Martin. We hope you visit us again soon - and please feel free to ask a team member for a dollop of cream if needed!
A very pleasant family Sunday lunch with roast beef as the main course. I did think the drinks were at the expensive level but we did enjoy the experience. One really positive change is that each party now has their own table which is so...much better than how it used to be with having to sit with total strangers, trying to make polite conversation. Much nicer just to sit and chat with the people you actually came out to have a meal with. We will be back providing they don’t go back to the long tablesMore
Many thanks for your review, so glad you enjoyed dining with us again. And just to reassure you, we have no plans to return to shared tables!
I have wanted to come to the Riverford Field Kitchen for years. I was so delighted that we had such a wonderful time. The food was delicious and with dishes that I would not cook at home; the best reasons to go to a restaurant...in my opinion. Also great value for money; the food is organic, and every mouthful is appreciated because it is grown with love and thought for the planet. If only everywhere was like this........More
Many thanks for your review Gerry. More than happy to give you a night off cooking anytime!
It’s great seeing veg placed centre stage on a menu and the home grown offerings were all dealt with using imagination and creatively / it’s essentially like a tasting menu with multiple dishes but not at tasting menu prices! In fact we were bowled over...by the value for money! The staff were also a lot of fun - thanks for a great experienceMore
Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're so pleased you enjoyed our set menu, vegcentric dining experience.
First a warning - we came here for dinner via the A385 Ashburton Road just outside Totnes, and received a speeding ticket on the way to the restaurant and on the way back. We were tourists and were unaware of the camera and that it...had penalised hundreds of drivers since being recently erected. However the restaurant was great - the food was delicious and the service was excellent. It's a set meal and they cater very well for vegetarians. I was so impressed, I bought one of their recipe books!More
Many thanks for your review, we're so glad you enjoyed dining with us. We hope you're recreating some delicious vegcentric menu's at home!
