Having received a voucher for Christmas we booked for Sunday lunch. We were sat on a table with 6 others and offered drinks on arrival. I wanted to try the local white wine and asked for a small glass as I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I was offered to have a taste before which was great. It was lovely so I ordered a large glass! The selection of dishes were all delicious. I had the vegetarian option and my husband had the meat which he said melted in the mouth. A great opportunity to share food that we would otherwise not have had. I enjoyed sharing various dishes around the table and if I can work out how to do this at home without too much hassle it will be a great way to host guests. The choice of desserts was great and we both chose to have 2 small portions each of different desserts rather than 1 full portion giving us a chance to try 4 between us. We rounded off our meal with coffee for my husband and a mint tea for myself. There were people of all ages in the restaurant and the atmosphere was like a big happy family gathering.
Hope to return when we are in Devon again.

We've been many times. Usually about 3 times a year. A few blips along the way but last time made me feel I must comment. It's probably good if you're vegetarians (I know it's based on vegetables) but for us the lovely flavours and cooking were not there. A slice of unimaginitively presented meat each. Puds fine but no sticky toffee pudding. A waspish male waiter didn't like our question as to whether or not we could have two small portions of pud, which was always announced previously.

Wow just wow, an experience not to be missed! We saw on Social Media that the Riverford Field Kitchen was testing the water with a Saturday only 10am Brunch Sitting. Four courses including tea or coffee £20. All availablity during the trial period had been taken online so we put our names down for a standby cancellation. We were so fortunate as one became available the very next weekend. The communication from Riverford was excellent and we received a phone call the day before to check for any dietary requirements etc. We arrived in sunshine at 10am. The Field Kitchen smelt glorious and looked beautiful with walls adorned in dried flowers. The team were very friendly, Covid aware & welcoming. The food was truly outstanding, Chamomile pear, buckwheat granola & crème fraîche; Roast fig, ricotta, oregano, za'atar & sourdough toast; Smoked potato rösti, egg, plum brown sauce & to finish French toast w. passion fruit curd. We drank cafetiere coffee & fresh juice made from pear, beetroot & ginger. We loved it so much we've put our names back on the waiting list for a return visit! I believe the trial period has been extended to the end of the year, so if you get the opportunity to sample the Brunch, do not hesitate, you won't be disappointed 💖

Really looking forward to dining here with my daughter as I had an excellent experience 2 years ago .
Unfortunately a disappointment from the beginning , unclear when it open , hoping to have pre drinks no one answered the calls .
When we arrived , lack lustre staff who seemed unfriendly and aloof . My daughter struggled to enjoy the veg centric dishes , not that they were veg centric but food was plain had no zing or delight .
They didn’t even notice she had not touched any of the dishes or thoughtful to adjust .
We asked for a straw , coVid anxiety , she couldn’t drink as there was no straws , a metal one was given but was touched by the waitress. So off putting and insensitive . We even went to the car to see if we had a spare straw .
Meal was ok , some fishes good , but largely lacking flavour no garlic or other complex flavours . I am sad to say I could have cooked better . The pardon chillis were just grilled rather then stuffed with cheese or other . None of the dishes had garlic or other vibrant flavours , rather flat flavourless disappointing . This extended to the chicken which was tough over cooked , and lacking flavour even with the salsa verde . We were trying to get through the experience as quickly as possible to leave . In terms of atmosphere , the change in COVID restrictions the buzz and sociability was lacking . The only veg dishes that were good was the pickled beetroot and radishes and the desserts . Everything else was flat and pretentious and no imagination .
The only time I got conversation was explaining the gratuity . My daughter didn’t touch the food overpriced and not tasty , service was no energy or vibrance . Glad to leave. Bill for two people one a minor £ 84 one alcoholic drink . Sorry , lacking generosity and imagination and flavour on this occasion . Overrated and past sell by date . I have cancelled my other reservation in august .

OK...so, we've been three times in two weeks when friends or family have been visiting. I don't think I've ever been to the same place so many times in such a short period of time before.
Each time we managed to get in on a cancellation so worth trying if there isn't availability online.
With social distancing and covid requirements, it feels really relaxed and has a casual luxury feeling.
Food starts arriving shortly after everyone has been seated and each time we've left feeling super full, yet smug knowing we've eaten so much veg.
Brunch was four lovely dishes with filter coffee or tea included.
Lunch and dinner were similar in style but dishes were different.
Stand out dishes if you're fortunate to get them were tomatoes with ricotta, sticky toffee pudding (although that was a different visit) and poached pear with granola.

My vegetables are delivered every week by Riverford, I've eaten at their pop-up restaurant before, but I was still blown away by our meal at Riverford Field Kitchen. The flavours are out of this world. Such a refreshing change for a restaurant to base their meals around vegetables and not a carb or meat. Just wow, wow, wow. Fantastic service, welcoming atmosphere. I'd go back every week if I could. Meal of the yer for me, I just know it! Riverford, please never change. You're amazing!

we have visited riverford lots of times over the years and have a box throughout the year. However on the last 3 occasions we had had onglet beef which each time has been barely cooked. Today I ordered the veggie option which was lovely but the two people with us had the meat. I did tell the very nice waiter about the meat and he did take it away and cooked it a little more but was still chewy and very rare. Previously we have had beautiful melt in the mouth slow cooked meat, one time was lamb and another was blade of beef. I do appreciate that slow cooked meat would be expensive to do given the cost of fuel but i do think that the meat could be cooked a little more or maybe people could be asked how they would like it as in steak. Just an observation. Otherwise the starters and vegetables of the main course were superb, also the desserts. lovely staff and atmosphere.

Many thanks for taking the time to write us a review :-)
We are so pleased that you have enjoyed visiting us so many times and that you enjoyed your veg, and puddings.
We do serve onglet beef rare or medium rare as this is the best way to eat this particular cut, but appreciate it's not everybody's preference.
We serve a variety of meat dishes so chances are if you return you won't have the same dish again.
Once again, thank you for your comments.

First revisit in five years. Expectations were high and boy did they deliver. The vegetable starters were exquisitely put together with balance and spot on seasoning. The main of beef rump with puy lentils and garlic roast potatoes with salsa verde’d broccoli and beetroot was cooked to perfection, and paired wonderfully with the sides. I was delighted to see that the sticky toffee pudding was still on the pudding list. It is a light pillowy bowl of magnificence. The staff are the perfect mix of relaxed charm and efficient service. A memorable meal and a wonderful experience with my lovely family

As a vegetarian I was excited to visit this restaurant which was booked up for week, we were on the waiting list and were phoned the day before as they had a cancellation!
We arrived a touch before 7pm to start our feast. Unfortunately at least 4 of the courses were salty and garlicky - resulting in copious amounts of water having to be drunk. Vegetable accompaniments included one with olives and one with capers, both known to have a very high salt content. The starter was confit garlic and garlic featured in a further 4 courses. The food looked great, sadly the taste was something else. On the plus side, service was prompt and friendly. We thought the meal was on the pricey side for what was served.

A bit baffled by some of the recent reviews as our visit was top notch. Portions were generous and delicious and very reasonably priced for what you get. Delicious flavours in all the dishes and the set menu and organised service makes for a perfectly relaxing meal, not worrying about ordering or waiting. The spring onion dish was just divine. An unexpected choice of several desserts...the elderflower pavlova was the winner. Great non alcoholic drink choice too for the driver and lovely to be able to walk around the kitchen garden. A lovely, lovely afternoon.

My husband and I had the late Sunday lunch and beforehand enjoyed a drink sat outside as it was a very pleasant afternoon. We arrived early so that we could explore the vegetable tunnel etc and it was interesting and the countryside around beautiful. Many dishes were served to us and all were very tasty - it was a set very tasty menu though there was such a variety that there would be something for everyone and there was a lot of it. There are a lot of vegetable dishes. We ate our puddings there yet in retrospect would have been better to have taken it to have had at home later as we were both so very full. It was a lovely visit and hope to go again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit last night and Riverford produced another very tasty selection of vegetable dishes.
The service was very good and the staff attentive.
We have been visiting Riverford for many years now and my only concern is that the cost of a meal has crept up to
£32 per head before drinks. I think our meal came to £69 for both of us with an apple juice and a small bottle of sparkling water.
Personally, I would love to see an option of two prices….main course only and main course with pudding. I know the puddings are fantastic but as a diabetic I would prefer if we were given the choice of not having it included. I did have a dessert but only because it was part of the price. It would be nice not to feel I need to have the pudding because I paid for it. A low sugar option would be great too. I have a nut allergy and they cater brilliantly for that.
Still a 5 star meal though.

We had dined at Riverford a few years ago and enjoyed the experience. However, after our visit last week we will not return.
Our meal:
We were served two pieces of sourdough bread, no oil offered.
Aubergine with cumin, chilli, feta and mint. The flavour was good but the slices of aubergine were nearly raw and not edible, we left them. Not much feta cheese either.
Sweet corn and black garlic. No oil or butter offered. This was chewy and did not taste much of anything. Served almost cold.
Harissa carrots, fava bean, tropea onion, almond. This was served almost cold and had little flavour.
Runner beans, tahini and za’atar. Awful. Whole runner beans that were almost raw with tahini over them. Not edible, we left the lot.
Onglet beef, mushrooms, rocket and Parmesan, rosemary tomatoes, courgette, olive, beetroot, radicchio, hazelnut. The beef was quite tender and flavoursome but it was served hardly lukewarm. The tomatoes were sweet and warm, the lumps of courgette were very al dente as was the beetroot, all served lukewarm.
I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it was hot and I enjoyed it.
We told the waitress some vegetables were too raw to eat and cold, she apologised but that was all.
Notably for a restaurant serving seasonal veg. there was no cabbage, broccoli, kale, spinach, or potatoes offered.
I found the food lacked imagination and flavour was not served hot and much of the veg was too under cooked for us.

We visited Riverford for a 4pm booking on a Sunday, a treat meal out and one we’ve been meaning to try for some time as we only live a few miles up the road.
It was a set menu which might not suit everyone but the variety and standard of cooking was amazing. Locally sourced were possible, seasonal and organic is the order of the day.
Starter was almost a vegetarian mezze - 3 dishes to share plus freshly baked sourdough and each totally different and packed full of flavour.
Main was a melt in the mouth rump of beef along with another veg side and roast potatoes. You have to love veg here, even if you choose the meat option!
A choice of six desserts to finish off - ours were superb!
Locally produced ale too :)
Thanks to the staff too who were friendly, helpful and knowledgable throughout

We’ve visited Riverford many times and always really good but it wasn’t as good this time , there was a big wait before the first plate was bought out and was the best confit garlic with whipped curd and sour dough but needed more bread . The next few dishes were cold and lacked imagination , except for the chick peas which was warm . A potato dish would have been nice and the spring greens with chilli and garlic never arrived .
Sticky toffee was good but the custard was tepid .
Staff friendly as ever and ambience good .

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. Apologies that we didn't live up to your expectations on your recent visit.
The first few dishes do tend to be cold at this time of year due to what we have available, and the main dishes will generally be warm. We have been serving Jersey Royals but they were obviously not on the menu the day you visited.
I believe the meat was served on the same dish as the spring greens with chilli and garlic, it wasn't a separate dish. However I can only apologise if you didn't receive any - please always mention any issues to a team member and they will rectify it immediately.
We hope to see you again soon.
