My wife and I visited on Saturday evening 11th June. Warm friendly greeting and good service. The meal was excellent. We both enjoyed our food. We are in the area on holiday but will manage to fit in another visit before we leave the area.

Fabulous bar/restaurant, quirky and a great atmosphere. Made to feel very welcome and our dog was fussed by the staff. Family of four, we ordered two rib eye steaks (chef made a peppercorn sauce on request), fish and chips and the pork belly. Every dish...was well presented, cooked beautifully and tasted divine. This is no ordinary restaurant, there is a lot of love put onto every plate by the chef before being sent out to their customers by Emma (the very pleasant and good humoured server). I just have to mention the desserts..the baked cheesecake and crème brûlée were heaven (huge portions..to my husband’s delight). The liquor coffees were so good. In fact we were so impressed that we returned for breakfast the next morning..again the food and service was excellent. Try the toasted banana and ginger bread with mascarpone and maple syrup (just superb). Would 💯 recommend the Phoenix and we will definitely be back! Thanks guys..you’ve got everything spot on!More
Lovely staff and food! was incredible. We had satay chicken and a goats cheese tart to start followed by the dirty burger and pork belly would highly recommend, the presentation of the food was very enticing.
Visited the phoenix as a family of 3. The food was superb and the service matched. Very warm, friendly and inviting setting. We would definately visit here again.
Sunday carvery was beautiful. Glad we booked as it was busy and there were 8 of us. We all had the beef, LOADS of meat, plenty of veg and a variety too, including parsnips and roasted beetroot. Considering it was busy and there were a...lot of us, the food came out together and was hot, although it did take a while for them to take our order in the first place so we'd been there an hour before we were eating, hence 4 stars. Nice dessert sélection to round off the meal. Ginger pudding was delicious. No on-site parking and roadside spaces are a lottery, so would recommend the car park by the library/co-op and a short walk along the footpath up through to the main road that conveniently comes out opposite the restaurant.More
Really glad you had a great time on sunday ,and we hope to see you again soon.Sorry ,you had to wait a bit ,as I know there was a table of 13 aswell, and that always holds things up a little .
Fantastic food as usual. The brunch is the best all day breakfast in Devon in my opinion. Good value, high quality ingredients, and friendly staff make The Phoenix a superb restaurant.
Ah that is a lovely review ,thanks so much for your comments .Hope to see you soon .
2 of us had breakfast - 1 full, 1 small. We each had coffee with it. The breakfasts were tasty and filling. Yummy.
Thanks so much for your lovely review.See you soon
Came here last Saturday for my birthday. Although the restaurant was busy we were looked after by Emma who attended to our needs. We never had to wait long to get a member of staffs attention. The cocktails were lovely, the food was amazing. It...was our first visit and definitely wont be our last. My partner had the steak and i had the vegan burger and both were delicious. This restaurant/pub has a really lovely cosy feel to it and its really relaxing especially with the fire place. I cant wait to come back again! 10/10More

Come here with my partner for a Sunday roast! Very welcoming, good service and attentive. No hassle with booking or making changes. As for the food, it was excellent and tasty! Will definitely come here again! :)
We are glad you had a great experience at our restaurant , and really hope to see you again soon
Popped in for a quick bite. Waitress prompt and helpful. Carpet filthy a not hoovered from day before. Flat beads our dishes of choice. My wife's was okay, mine however was advertised on the menu with roasted butternut squash and roasted beetroot. The beetroot appeared...to be missing and we queried this with the waitress who couldn't see it either. She returned and said it is there but in very small chopped up pieces. In a hurry so didn't press the point however the dish was overly sweet for a savoury dish and not great. Pointed this our to the restaurant manager when paying who was apologetic. She went to the kitchen and returned to inform me that the beetroot was indeed there, but candied out of a jar not roasted and that the chef said this was ok! I suggested that the menu description should reflect the dish however this did not seem to get much traction. The kitchen obviously refused to reflect this on the bill, however the manger removed a drink charge as she could see that I was not impressed with the excuses offered. Suffice to say, my advise to the chef who thinks that 'roasted equals candied' is 'listen to your customers as they pay your wages' with the result that a fairly positive experience and review has now turned into the above because of his/her response to customer feedback. Will not be returning.More
Sorry you felt the vegetarian flat bread was not to your standard . We will make sure this doesn’t happen again , and will change the recipe .
