Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food at this pub is terrible. After asking if I could swap the chips out for some mash potato which was on the menu in other meals, I was told no. So I elected to have the lasagne, which on a side note was...almost double the cost of that which is advertised on their online menu….but other than the garlic bread…..the lasagne was absolutely terrible……to the point that I could not eat it. I was not asked if there was anything wrong with the meal…which is not a problem I guess, because I would never recommend nor revisit this establishment. Save your money and go somewhere else.More

Perfect pub. We arrived with a large group of friends, children and dogs. We had a lovely reserved area. The food was amazing and the staff were brilliant. We were probably noisy and messy but at no point were we made to feel like an...inconvenience. I'm local, my friends are not, and I can say this is one of the best dartmoor pubs. I'm annoyed I've not been before. Thank you POW!More

Fantastic welcome to a soggy family plus dog on a foggy windy day. Just what we needed after walking in the moor. Food was fantastic and considering how busy it was I don’t think wait time was unreasonable. Would return and recommend. They only take...cash tips ……gutted as we didn’t have any so I promised a great review!! Burgers were amazing. Pie was fab and chips were too notch.More

Stopped in here off the cuff on a Saturday after walking across Dartmoor in the afternoon. Me and friend both had a pie off the specials board (which is not something I would normally go for) and it was the best pie I have ever...eaten the pastry was shortcrust and there was so much meat in the pie it was full to the brim. Definitely worth every penny we paid! Desert of chocolate cake was also very yummy. The staff were lovely especially one lady called Penny. Although this pub is a bit out the way for me I will definitely be going back again.More

After a lovely walk on the moors and a visit to the Dartmoor prison museum you get to the lovely village of Princetown and this lovely village pub. It was a lovely sunny and warm Sunday and indoors well a Halloween paradise so well thought...out. We opted for 2 Sunday lunches which was delicious and then went to sit outside enjoying more sun in the Garden. We will be back to sample more delights. Great atmosphere in the pub and staff very friendly. Well done.More

Friendly welcome. Staff really helpful. Pub is really nice inside, recently refurbished but retains its old character. Plenty of seating. Toilets really clean. The steak and ale pie we had was absolutely delicious and we were so tempted by their deserts on the menu but...didn’t have the room. This is my favourite go to eating pub it’s just a shame I live nearly an hour away! Great place for lunch after a walk on beautiful Dartmoor.More

Absolutely brilliant food and service. We ate here 4 nights out of our stay and the food was incredible - proper pub grub, but excellent quality! Highly recommend the burgers and steaks! Special mention to Rupert the barman Ruby the waitress who went above and...beyond to make us feel welcome and who’s service was exemplary! We’ll definitely be back next time!More

Overpriced and poor quality. £17 for a poor quality scampi and chips! Only went because website menu was much cheaper but turned out to be out of date. Soulless inside as well. Would have walked out but had family in tow. Beer was good though...so have upped it to 2 stars. Avoid.More

Absolutely sumptuous Sunday lunch! We turned up on a particularly wet day (unsurprisingly!) to be greeted by a warm fire and a lovely, friendly local pub vibe. A gentleman asked if we wanted to eat and found us a table quite happily, despite most tables...being marked as ‘reserved’. We ordered the gammon roast and a blue burger. It took a little while to come, but it was well worth the wait. Beautifully cooked, more food than we could possibly eat, washed down with local ale. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed and lively, with locals lining the bar on stools having a chat and pint. We highly recommend this pub for good value pub food, a welcoming environment and good ale.More
