Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were heading for the nearby Anchorstone Cafe for a much anticipated fishy lunch but, after a demanding walk from the car park, we arrived to find it closed! Being unable to even contemplate the return to the car without a rest (the Anchorstone and Ferryboat Inn are both at the bottom of a VERY steep hill with no car parking) we decided to try the Ferryboat Inn for lunch. The Inn is old and is pretty cluttered, there’s a good view of the estuary through what was a rather grubby window when we were there. The loos could have done with a makeover too. Clean and well equipped but pretty shabby. The welcome was not overly enthusiastic and the menu was pretty ordinary. The only fish on offer was haddock in batter with chips and frozen peas. Pleasant enough but nothing special. Hubby had a burger, again with chips, which was fairly basic. With a large glass of wine and one pint of cider the two main courses cost a total of £41. The pub was quite busy for a Saturday lunchtime in February (probably due to the Anchorstone being closed) but I expect it’s packed in the summer, being close to the ferry landing stage and on the waters edge in very pretty Dittisham. Unless you enjoy walking on an uneven foreshore or up and down steep hills I suggest you take the hourly ferry to Dittisham from Dartmouth.

This was our first visit. Only pizza’s on the menu but we’d booked well in advance, had a lovely personalised table, very Covid aware, lovely staff, fantastic wine and oh my word, the pizzas were absolutely incredible!!! Huge, fresh, so tasty....a meal at this place with such atmosphere and amazing views has to be a must for anyone wanting to feel ‘normal’ during a challenging year. We took the uneaten slices away in a takeaway box and we’d just like to say thank you to everyone at the Inn for remaining so positive and looking after your customers when others are not adapting so well. Can not recommend enough, if you like a good pizza or simply a stunning view!!

We loved the location of The Ferry Boat Inn. It is right on the sea front. We parked in the public car park in Dittisham and walked to the Inn. We were looking for a Sunday lunch however we were advised on booking that only pizzas were on the menu. We were not disappointed. The pizzas were delicious, the service great and there was a fab view from inside out over the harbour. Inside is cosy and traditional and just what we like! We had drinks outside on the shore as it was a lovely day, before being seated inside for our food. I would say it was quite expensive for pizzas but I guess the location and all of the above can justify this. Would recommend.

Just returned after a disappointing experience. We went expecting the good fish and chips we had previously experienced. We were kept waiting outside whilst the people occupying our reserved table decided to leave. Then we discovered that the Inn now only serves pizza. no indication had been given of this at the time of booking. So no starter , non dessert and a poor pub pizza. it will be along time before we return. The Ferry Boat Inn has definitely taken a turn for the worst. Furthermore how could a review dated September 2020 say that a very good varied menu was available when we were told that the pub had only been serving pizza since they reopened in July 2020?

We had gone to Dittisham to do some Crabbing and saw people walking past us with pizza boxes. As it was Friday night and unlike Dartmouth, wasn't packed solid we gave the pizzas a go. They were absolutely lovely. Homemade and very tasty. The service was excellent. We ordered at the door and although we waited around 45 minutes for 4 pizzas the view is so stunning it didn't feel that long. The pub is clearly popular and only had 2 benches outside but we were lucky enough to sit at one to eat our food. Many people were eating on the pontoon or on the walls around the pub. I would highly recommend the Ferry Boat Inn and would love to return when they return to serving other food.

We called in at the Ferry Boat Inn on spec. We arrived at 12.00 in the rain and the pub was fully booked for lunch. However, as one of the tables was not booked until 1.00 the very pleasant and helpful staff welcomed us in and told us we could have the table until 1.00. We are so glad they did. We had the pub's crab and seafood pizza; what a pizza it was, too. We have never had such a delicious pizza anywhere, home or abroad. The base was not heavy or dry and the topping was absolutely delicious. The staff, too, could not have been more pleasant or helpful. At least one other review has mentioned that there is a lack of covid awareness. We did not see this. The staff were all wearing masks; there was a good system for customers to collect take-away pizzas at the door with hand sanitiser there for customers' use and we saw the staff wiping down when a table was vacated. We could not fault the pub in this or any other respect whilst we were there.

Very pleased with our lunch here although only Pizzas available on the menu. Pizzas had toppings available to suit all and of good quality and size at a good price. Service excellent and friendly. We had a window seat with great views of the Dart. Worth a visit

Really lovely pub, friendly owners, good hearty food. We went with our daughter who is 7 and likes certain food the lady was lovely and offered to make her a pasta dish that wasn’t on the menu which she really enjoyed. Excellent we look forward to visiting again and would recommend.

We had a great meal on Sunday evening, all the staff were friendly and helpful, really lovely. The pizzas were fantastic and the staff loved my daughter’s idea of ‘improving’ hers by putting some chips on top! Beautiful location, drinks a bit pricey, dog friendly. A great pub.

This little pub in Dittisham, Dartmouth is right next to the pontoon, which is great for crabbing. Unfortunately, the pub could not run at full capacity as it usually would because of COVID-19, but they were doing takeaway drinks and delicious Agatha Christie themed pizzas. And on Fridays, they do fish and chips. I must say they are coping very well with the circumstances and taking all the necessary advice and precautions to keep us and them safe.

Stopped by here for some drinks. Pub was full of customers all eating pizzas and even customers sitting outside who couldn't get in, all eating pizzas. They looked and smelt great. We just stopped for drinks though and the staff were all friednly.

This pub is just magical. We had a trip up the river, it was a calm evening and the setting was amazing. Four of us ordered pizza which were delicious- especially the Agatha Christie Pizza! 🍕 We sat outside, watched the boats and drank some wine, the highlight of my holiday.

A very busy pub in a very pretty location, serving average pub food. Unfortunately COVID rules don’t seem to apply here, non of the staff wear masks or.social distance. During our visit the majority of customers eating indoors didn’t wear masks when walking through the pub. Pretty scary considering how busy it was. Better places to eat in the area not worth the risk!

Visited using the Greenway > Dittisham ferry. Lovely traditional fisherman’s inn , very busy and friendly staff. Great stone baked pizza , just lost the one star as could have had a more varied menu but no real complaints... Andrew Ridgey popped in while we were there so can’t be too bad. He’d had a few beers so asked me to wake him up before he goes goes . Will come again...

Lovely lunch spot. We walked from Dartmouth to Dittisham which took us an hour and a half, lovely country and costal walk. We enjoyed a few pints of cider and a pizza, great choice on the menu of different pizzas and dips. Thank you for a lovely lunch, definitely would return due to the lovely location and views.
