Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ok, this is a pub serving pub food not a gourmet restaurant but the carvery exceeded expectations. Great home cooked food and plenty on offer. The honey roast parsnips were so nice. Most of my veg is hidden as I love cauliflower and the sprouts...are on the far side of my plate, lol. I declined the yorkie on this occasion. If we lived in the area then this would be a regular destination on a Sunday for us.More

First time eating here. Gorgeous carvery. Plenty of meat and large selection of veg. Everything was cooked to perfection. Genuinely the best carvery I've had in years. Very reasonably priced food and drinks. All staff were friendly. Recommend booking in advance, it was busy.

Came down for the Karaoke on Saturday night. Felt like walking into a saloon bar when it went quiet and everyone turned around……. Rugby was on, with about 3 people watching it that weren’t staff. Such a shame as had a great Saturday night here...a few weeks ago! Facilities are great. Lovely space, good beers on tap. Just a shame it’s not used to it’s full potential (and for the karaoke it had advertised). I’m not a local, but my parents are, and hope to come again when it has a bit more life as it has great potential!More

Looking forward to a family night out, and reading reviews booked to go, unfortunately understaffed, only one person behind bar, although friendly, waited a long time to be served for drinks and food. Food was ok but could have been better, am sorry but wouldn’t...go back.More

It’s a shame I’m having to write a review on Trip Advisor to get some sort of response from the owner Dale, but it would seem he likes to reply on here so here goes… Sadly we held my fathers wake in May at The...Clinton Arms. On meeting Sarah, the bar manager, who I have since spoken to on a few occasions about my issues about the day, I thought everything would be be great. Sarah sadly was on holiday on the day of the wake but reassured me that everything would be taken care of. Initially worrying about the amount of people we had catered for, it’s very difficult to say how many would be attending, but deciding on 40 amounting to £9.95 per head with an extra £20 for unlimited tea and coffee, I was assured that this would be plenty of food even if 60 attended. Sarah was lovely, she put my mind at ease and was very reassuring that although she would not be there she would make sure Danny would be instructed to make the day and food flawless. Again, wanting the day to be perfect I visited Danny the evening before the wake to voice my concerns about how I was feeling and to ensure there would be enough food. He assured me, it would be fine. I even said, if the food goes, to put on more and I would pay more, even though it has already cost £420 but he reiterated again there would be plenty. On arriving at the venue, I was disappointed to see the room was not set out, someone was scrambling around laying out the food tables with the table cloths, plates etc as guests were arriving. There was only 10 cups and saucers put out for the unlimited tea and coffee. On top of this 15 plates of food was served and this disappeared within minutes. I honestly thought more would be brought out but it never was. I sent a picture of the amount of food via email and photo to show how disappointed we were and how upset this had left my poor mum. Quiche, sandwiches, cocktail sausage rolls, halved pork pies, bite size chicken balls and a very small Indian selection. That was it. I worked out about 60 people did attend. But not all of them ate anything. My poor mum didn’t managed to eat anything at all. The food that was put out was tasty but definitely not enough for 40 people at £9.95 a head. Sarah was initially very disappointed for us. She was heartbroken that the day hadn’t gone as she would have wanted for us as she knew how important it was for us. There were other issues too with the attitude of Danny on the day. Again I’ve spoken with Sarah on the phone and although very professional she was not impressed to what I was saying. He came across as very stressed, slightly sarcastic, and if we were a nuisance to him, as if everything was too much trouble. If the ice ran out, there was a comment and a huff. The vodka ran out and he commented that there was a wake there on Monday, “who’d done 3 bottles” and “we done 1 bottle”….it was only sorted when another lovely member of bar staff said she’d go to get some more, and his reply was “yeah, if you could as someone is moaning”….that someone was me. And I wasn’t moaning but the order had already been taken and paid for. Surely as a bar/pub you’d go out of your way to have stock. It clearly wasn’t too much trouble to go and get some more. A lot of money would have been taken behind the bar that day. We kept ourselves to ourselves, sitting out side and enjoyed the sunshine, under really sad circumstances. It was such a shame to feel so unwelcome. It would seem by reading other reviews and the response from Dale, Danny obviously has this strange way about him. It’s not funny and not in jest. Certainly not appropriate for a wake. I was told Dale would call me to discuss this. To date, I’ve heard absolutely nothing. Which is really upsetting. I’m not sure what I want but a discussion and an apology would have been appreciated. Such a shame as we’d heard good things about The Clinton Arms so I do hope things can be resolved.More

Went for a carvery today. The meat was beautifully cooked and plentiful and the vegetables were well cooked and very tasty. It was a traditional roast dinner and very good value for money. The staff were lovely and accommodating and I would definitely recommend it.

We booked this for a group of friends visiting Devon Cliffs. We originally booked for 6.30 but because of travel delays etc we rang to change the booking to 7.30. This was welcomed with only one caution that the kitchen closed at 8 and we...needed to order before that - no problem. Two of the party arrived at 7.30 and were instructed to “have a seat and we will be over”. Seeing no signage there was an assumption it was table service - albeit wrongly, this was the assumption after what was said. The other 2 arrived and we sat down to choose meals from the menu (basic but actually not a bad menu). We sat and waited , and waited. We were just beginning to wonder if we had got the table service wrong when the chap came out and literally shouted across at us “Come on Girls you need to get on and order…You were already an hour late”. My friend tried to point out he had said he would come over but we were met with “it’s not damn table service you know, not round here” This was embarrassing and totally unexpected. Needless to say, we left. I was not even prepared to put money behind the bar. Very rude and Unwelcoming. We were NOT late - we had called ahead which was a lot more respectful than how you treated us. I am not saying any of this to be malicious - this is the truth as to what happened. I would not be in a hurry to go back and actually had a really lovely meal on site at Sandy Bay.More

Called up last minute to see if they had a table, welcomed the booking on the phone but on arrival was meant with immediate hostility. Waiting at the bar it was quite clear that they didn’t want us in the pub from the outset. My...daughter of 10 sat on the bar stool for literally a minute and was instructed to get off as she was not allowed to sit near the bar. When we said we had a table booked the gentleman just walked off in the other room, no pleasantries, no follow me to the table. Nothing We then proceeded around the corner to see him throwing tables around to make the table of 8 only then to be instructed to go back to the bar to get my own menus. Luckily enough a couple (who were eating) had some so was then told not to bother as we could use them (two menus for 8 people) As I was about to sit down he aggressively said, “there is only one chef, one person on the bar and me so the food my take a while” followed by “good luck”. Outside it’s heavily advertised as a family pub, one which hates families. People will think that they were trying to accommodate us at short notice, we would have rather not given the shocking attitude from the staff. I immediately left with my family which I’m sure did them all a favour, classic attitude for a local business, one that deserves to fail in my opinion.More
