My husband and I visited River Exe Cafe for our 1st wedding anniversary after seeing the cafe on 'hidden restaurants'. It was just as amazing as we expected. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. My husband and I are both lovers of seafood...More

We went for my Birthday and what an amazing place. The ambiance and the gorgeous food did not disappoint. We will definitely be back and are shouting from the rooftops what an amazing restaurant and experience the River Exe Cafe is.

The experience of the cafe is lovely and the views while on the barge are beautiful however the overall experience was somewhat lacking when it comes down to the food and service. To begin with we ordered cibatta which did not arrive, our mains were...More

A fun way to have lunch, a water taxi there and back from Exmouth Quay and a stunning location in the middle of the estuary. We have been three times and last time the food was OK but not as good as previously. I've heard...More

Our first visit yesterday and certainly won't be our last! Everything was perfect. The system they have arranged with the water taxi, the food, the customer service, the atmosphere & obviously the location was all wonderful. Before hand, I was slightly concerned the whole place...More

I had the scallops followed by a whole crab. The crab was overcooked and the claw meat was dry and shrivelled. I’ve been to the river cafe several times before but this year there were not so many special dishes and were very overpriced for...More

Family meal here for my sons birthday. Harry on the water taxi was lovely and friendly. Arrived at the restaurant to a warm welcome and a “happy birthday” board on our table which was a nice touch. I’m not sure how they manage it but...More

Had a lovely time with a hen party on the river Exe! How many places can you only get to by ferry! The place worked like clockwork, to get you in and out in time for the ferry! Food was delicious, in a fun and...More

This is quite a tricky place to review. I have eaten better seafood - dry chips and generous sized cod dripping in oil, but never in a restaurant bobbing up and down on a beautiful river estuary. I reviewed the restaurant some time ago and...More

Hi, Sorry I have only just seen this. We stayed at Lympstone Manor which was lovely although quite pricey. I hope you found somewhere suitable.

Description
The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.
