I called in for a meal in the restaurant on a whim. I often use the coffee bar which is a pleasant environment but fancied something a bit more substantial. Although the restaurant was very busy I was seated quickly by the very personable staff. Table cleaned, order taken and not long to wait before my food arrived. I ordered a large steak and ale pie costing just under £12. The large plate was half filled with mash potato. A huge, ridiculous amount. The veg were cooked and sufficient. The pie however was a massive let-down. Considering this is a farm shop (& it cost £11.95) I was envisioning a solid portion packed with beef in a thick short crust pastry. What arrived was puddle of very over flavoured gravy, four (yes 4) pieces of beef and a wafer thin square of pastry to top it off. I ate it as I didn’t initially realise how little meat was in it and when I did, I resigned myself to simply being disappointed. Upon paying for my meal the male staff member asked me if everything was to my satisfaction. I told him my disappointment and of course he apologised but obviously, as I’d finished the meal there was nothing to be done. I submit this review simply to encourage a bit of quality control before the meal leaves the hot plate.

Originally recommended to us by friends who stop here on their way to Cornwall, the last few times we were in the area we had to make do with a takeaway pasty due to the restaurant being very busy with various events and then refurbishment. However we arrived just before noon last Friday and managed to get a table for 2. We ordered lunch and the drinks arrived after a short wait. I was thirsty so drank mine quite quickly and unable to see our waitress again I asked the girl who brought the lunches for another drink. She said she was unable to get it and there was no-one behind the bar at the time so she would ask someone. 10 minutes later I had nearly finished my sandwich and the drink hadn't come so I asked someone else and after a few minutes wait it arrived, to be followed by another drink 5 minutes later. To be fair it was getting busy by then. I explained the situation and it was taken away. When paying I was asked if I wanted the receipt and accepted, to find I had been charged for the returned drink as well as the other 2. When pointed out this was refunded with no quibble. On our return journey we went in the Coffee Lounge which was lovely and had a selection of very fresh cakes and buns. Well worth a visit but best to book the restaurant.

We’ve been going to Lifton Farm Shop for the past 4 years for the annual Pumpkin Fest. It’s always such a lovely event and the kiddies look forward to it every year. This year was still great fun despite the COVID restrictions and bad weather. The staff were very well organised and we felt COVID secure. We’re already looking forward to going back next year. We’d never eaten in the restaurant before but decided to eat in there this year. I’m sorry to say we were disappointed. I opted for the vegetarian breakfast and removed the egg. I wouldn’t have it again. It came out luke warm. The vegetarian sausage wasn’t a sausage instead it was a cheeses and onion roll type thing. Overall disappointing. Despite having a large menu and a specials menu there was no vegan option (or at least I couldn’t find one?) and very limited gluten free options. It was also quite expensive for what it was. Road side cafe food at ‘nice’ restaurant prices. I had a mint tea which cost £2.40 and was just a cup of tea. I know it’s Teapigs which is more expensive but if I’m paying £2.40 it would have been nice to have it in a pot. Teapigs tea bags are also too strong to go into one cup. My daughter opted for the Child’s Lunch Platter she wasn’t impressed with it. The dessert pot was a tiny ramekin with a few bits of fruit in it. The slice of cake was very small and she said the bread and ham was very dry. It was a tiny platter better suited to a toddler yet it cost £5.95. My son had a medium pasty and was very happy with it. We’ve always loved the pasty from the farm shop. The service was great and we certainly felt for the servers running back and forth from the kitchen, restaurant and gazebo. We bought some Hogs Pudding Scotch Eggs from the farm shop which my partner said were amazing! We’d get them again. Although we will go back next year for the Pumpkin Fest, after this food experience, we definitely wouldn’t eat in the restaurant again.

This lovely place deserves more than 2 stars, as the Farm Shop is fabulous, and the range of products it sells is amazing, but sadly that was my experience today in the Restaurant. I have always wanted to visit the restaurant which always smells of gorgeous roast beef and Yorkshire puds when we visit the shop! With the £10 discount, now was our opportunity to try it! About the Service: Firstly, we found that, having booked a table, we were stood out in the chilly breeze and rain queuing and there was no social distancing in the queue. There were also elderly people with walking frames stood there. Secondly, we were thirsty and the drinks never came. We asked some staff on their way past us, they all said they were on the way. We asked if they could bring us some water if they could not get the drinks ready as our hot meal had already been put on the table without drinks and we were needing the drinks. This didn't happen but the drinks eventually came way after us starting eating the meal. Same thing with the puddings - waited ages, They came 15 minutes apart, my Sundae eventually came with a dirty spoon which was covered in food! I got up and found somebody to get me a clean one. Lady on next table to us was complaining to the waitress about poor service. She had been brought her hot pudding same time as her meal and was worried it would go cold, amongst other problems! About the food itself: Piping hot good tasty cooking but it was let it down what seemed to me to be just like packet mix gravy and instant custard. The staff were lovely and friendly, and doing their best, but there was just no organisation and I can only guess it was a combination of height of season, the Eat Out to Help Out deal, and the Covid situation; trying to serve too many people, although I would have thought they had all been booked in! The meal, two mains, two deserts, a cup of tea and a soft drink came to just over £40.00 and the Government has paid half of it for us. The restaurant was clean and two or three waiters were passing us all the time to go and sanitise tables etc, and the tables were well spaced, but sadly the service to the customers was not up to scratch.

I brought a visiting friend here as I have done before as it is nearby. We ordered drinks and asked to keep the menus to order something to eat. While deciding on drinks I changed my choice and the look the waitress gave me was deathly!!! A larger blonde woman- probably shouldn’t be FOH with such an attitude. Anyway, Once we’d had our drinks, could we get anyone else to take an order? No way! There were lots of people cleaning tables (the place was half empty) but they all said they couldn’t take an order and would get someone else. Nope. Larger blonde was pointedly ignoring us. It turned out they were preparing for an event later in the day but if you can’t accommodate for an event and other customers I think you ought to have closed the cafe. Eventually a young lad said we they’d stopped taking orders - which would have been nice to know as we were seated- but as we left a new table were indeed ordering their teas and cakes etc! In the end we decided to give up and leave. The staff were all over the place and clearly dont communicate with each other. It’s a shame as the staff in the shop were lovely and friendly and really helpful. I wouldn’t choose this place to bring guests again.

I thought I would treat my family to an Halloween afternoon tea since my toddler was unable to go and celebrate Halloween. I was disappointed that despite being told it was a Halloween afternoon tea it wasn’t Halloween related at all apart from pumpkin soup. The pumpkin soup was too spicy for my toddler there wasn’t much thought put into it, the sausage roll and pasty seemed to have been reheated in the microwave and the price was an awful lot considering what was offered. I kinda had my hopes up that Halloween and Halloween afternoon tea would be some what different than what was offered and so did my child. They also asked for drinks granted they did say tea and coffee was free but charged an extra £1.00 or so for a cappuccino and my daughter asked for an Apple juice which no one told us that was actually included in the afternoon tea so that was wasted. The staff just didn’t seem they wanted to be there the wait was very long considering we booked and they knew what we was there for, the communication was not the best and if I’m honest it was really expensive for what it was, it did ruin what was meant to be a really nice day and I was very disappointed.

Our family of 13 visited Strawberry fields on Sunday 1st March for a birthday lunch. We were looked after superbly by Jasmine and other team members upstairs, our meals were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble despite the restaurant being very busy. We visit fairly regular, coming from Cullompton and Cornwall, the location being half way between. Needless to say we took home some pasties and pies for the next few days.

Enjoyed a Strawberry Afternoon Tea For a Birthday treat with Family. A good variety and selection offered which we purchased more in the Farm Shop later to take home. However, the afternoon was spoiled by the attitudes of a couple members of Staff in the Restaurant and the Bread server in the Shop. Had to prepay to reserve a Table. Ordered a Dairy free meal but emailed to say I just can’t eat butter/marg,/ milk. I had to return the 1/4 sandwich as it had spread on and twice I was given milky dairy coffee. One waitress rolled her eyes and was rude. It would have been a very pleasant place to visit and shop but sadly let down by stafF. Beautifully presented Afternoon Tea. Indoor seating breezy with French Doors wide open. Drinks are better served with separate pot of creamer to add if desired. Dairy substitutes Not offered,

Ordered two breakfasts. Drinks arrived but no meal so after 40 minutes we left. We have been dining there for years but it seems since the business expanded the service has declined. Previous visits the food has not been hot, a long wait and sometimes items on the plate not ordered. The staff are wonderful but over stretched...it's a shame and chatting to several other local people, they are experiencing similar problems.

We booked a table for 1230 on Tuesday 28 Sept We arrived 5 minutes early, shown to our table and the waitress took our drinks order, came back a few minutes later and took our food order. We waited until 1315 before getting our food, my wife had a Tuna/Mayo sandwich which she enjoyed, I ordered the Brisket and Rib Burger just short of £14. The burger was overcooked and only warm, the chips were undercooked and oily, an awful meal that I sent back. Throughout the waitresses were pleasant and attentive. I will not go there again, no one from management came to talk to me and all they offered was to take my meal of the bill, they need not have bothered because I would not have paid for it anyway, it would have cost them very little to have taken my wife's sandwich of the bill and made some recompense, alas, there customer care clearly does not stretch to this miniscule amount.

We visited the pumpkins patch as a reasonably large group. It was late in the day and when we get there we were told the food stalls had packed away and as we were all adults we were not interested in the magician show (although it looked great if you’re a child) but we’re still charged the full price to just go to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins that we were paying for regardless so unsure what the charge on entry was for at that time. Also as a large group it worked out rather pricey, perhaps a group charge could be put in place. The displays were fun however many of the pumpkins were rotting on the field. We then head to the farm shop, it was very busy however the staff were polite and friendly. I had a cream tea and unfortunately the scones were cold, dry and tasteless. Slightly bearing them would be a definite improvement and I’m shocked this isn’t standard!

Good breakfast. We booked easily online the previous day, good job we did. Strawberry Fields is always a MUST visit when visiting family this way. Tables nicely spread out to allow for social distancing. Watching a young girl cleaning and setting tables Covid style was ok but she was only managing about 75% of the requirements, eg she cleaned 1 chair of 4, left cutlery on the table from the previous customer and did not wipe the salt and pepper pots. We were served quickly which was great. Hubby could order dairy free easily which is perfect. The breakfasts arrived hot and tasty, BUT we had almost finished before our coffees finally arrived - we chased these twice and were told there was a backlog on drinks. My cappuccino wasn’t exactly hot but I didn’t want to wait longer to receive a replacement. A lot of tables were occupied but no one was rushing around so all looked quite organised and controlled. The bar area had lots of empty glasses for 11am in the morning. The floor also seemed extremely dirty for 11am, lots of dirt/dust and food crumbs not just under tables.

First tried here after the Royal Cornwall show and have never been dissapointed and have been encouraging all family and friends to give it a go. We had breakfast today and the staff were really friendly and attentive the food and drinks were hot and fresh all very enjoyable. We followed this up by a visit to the farm shop to pick up a box of meat which was on special offer. Well done to all involved 😊

As always the food here is great, but what has happend again with the service I’ve written before it was slow, it’s even worse this time we had to ask whether they were serving dessert as we had an 1/2 hr wait between the main and dessert. All we could see were groups of staff hanging around the food serving area talking and giggling. Very disappointing again, we will return because of the great food but please sort out the service.

Ok first of all, you should visit this place. It does some really good food and the farm shop is wonderful with their own bakery and butchery (where else can you find this) lots of their own products for sale and now JAMS and CHUTNEYS they make there. Ok onto my point. We came for lunch, party of four, my in-laws had Fish and Chips (Haddock) and it was freshly cooked and looked amazing, so try it. We had the Steak and Kidney Pie with vegetables. My excuse for the food we had was maybe they were just too busy and rushed it. The pie was not that great for me, I had about 3 pieces of steak and about 12 pieces of kidney. For my partner it was the opposite, which is quite funny as together we had a complete pie if we shared. The pastry top was really thin and nothing like fresh or frozen ones you can buy in there shop, so try those first. The vegetables were the let down. The cabbage was stone cold (they forgot to warm it) the swede mash was luke warm, the carrots although beautifully cooked were warm, the mash potato really, not much taste and to end cauliflower cheese was volcanic in heat, they obviously zapped it to an inch of its life before plating. So the veg ranged from stone cold to volcanic in temperature. Sorry guys you let yourself down. It was really really busy and the staff were running around like headless chickens getting the food out but I think you need to review what you are sending out. On our trip home my remark was that Strawberry Fields has lost its appeal now because this is not the first time food has been cold. "Why did you not complain?" You know what I should have but again it goes back to if you have to turn out a lot of food someone should be checking it and I would rather wait than have food rushed out at this standard. It really is a lovely place to visit and there are lots of offer and reader I will leave it you to decide. The Farm Shop is great so its a must. They also have lots of events during the year for all ages. During the weekday its usually lots and lots of elderly people there so if you are a family leave it to the weekend. Will I go back, of course I will, but not for a while.
