Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popped in for lunch and a drink after a long walk around Morte Point. Dog friendly establishment, very welcoming and the food and drink were excellent. Fish finger sandwiches were fab served with some of the best chips we have ever had! My daughter had...the ham and piccalilli and thoroughly enjoyed itMore

What a disappointment, went here with a friend of mine, we had been told about how good this place is and that the chef they had was doing good food. We got there an were told that half the menu wasn’t available but they had...some substitutions. Well we won’t be coming back, the pulled pork dirty fries or what ever it was ment to be looked like it came out of a can, if I’m brutally honest it looked like cat food! My friend had the goat curry and it was below average, not much taste and bland! It seemed like the staff hadn’t been told about the menu changing as they looked confused. I’m sorry but we won’t be returning.More

What a lovely pub. Nice warm greeting. Clean tables. We had Sunday lunch which was cooked to perfection for both my partner and myself. My partner is a vegetarian and simply adored her nut-roast, whilst I went for a traditional roast beef which along with...veggies was a very, very enjoyable bite. The food was delivered hot & was fresh. We are definitely coming back to sample lunch & dinner menu during the week.More

Lovely quaint atmospheric pub, the food was served swiftly and was superb. Efficient and friendly staff behind the bar who worked exceptionally hard.

Walked from Woolacombe and this was the first pub at the top of the hill. My husband ordered 2 drinks - everything ok. Later i ordered 2 alcohol free bottles of lager 1 pint on lager 1 packet of crisps and 1 bag of nuts,...it wasn’t until we got home i realised it was £22.80. The old barman said that is an expensive option but as 1 of us would be driving later it was a choice. £22.80 was rather OTT so beware when visiting this place!!!!!!!!More

Lovely pub with chilled music in the carpark and visiting caterers. The fish was amazing! Park up the road to get a space in the designated car park and easy walk down the road.

Reading the other reviews we were expecting a surly welcome but we visited a few times for drinks over the August bank holiday weekend and we found all of the bar staff and the landlord to be really friendly. Really rustic and traditional inside with...They a good selection of local ales and lagers. We didn’t try the food unfortunately. Nice beer garden outside and entertainment such as DJ and local bands in the car park some evenings. Would definitely call in again when passing.More

Such a lovely spot, such a shame about the man behind the bar. Greeted with " If you've come for food we have stopped serving" I explained we would like a drink. " I'm busy at the moment I'll come back' He didn't and after...the queue had reached 4 more people, 10 minutes later we left. What an odd pub, great if you are not a customer.More

A great pint but very unfriendly staff. Doesn't cost to say hello or smile. Almost felt the tumbleweed as we entered but clearly full of holiday makers! The guy who resembled a landlord burnt a hole in my soul with his stare! It's a pub...therefore it will have people contact. Change your style or make widgets for a living!More

Worst pub meal I have ever had. Meat pie-no pastry, just cold meat with an uncooked pastry lid. Total rubbish. Whole meal cold, meat rubbish. It couldn't have been worse. Do not go there. You will be disappointed.

This must rate as one of the worse pub meals I have ever had! Supposed to be steak and ale pie. First it wasn't a pie. Pies have a pastry base containing meat usually cooked in gravy/ale. This so called pie had some unbelievably dry...cold meat sitting on a plate, with a cold undercooked pastry topping!! The topping was white when it should be slightly brown if it is cooked. Only managed to eat this junk by asking for some hot gravy which my wife and I used to soak the cold meat and pastry topping. Interesting that another customer sent her meal back saying it was cold! Sad because I used to use this pub about ten years ago and my favourite meal was steak and ale pie which was brilliant. Obviously not the same owners/chef. Will definitely not be going back!1More

Excellent pub with great choice of local beers. We have visited on previous occasions when staying in Woolacombe and walking in the area, but this was the first time that we have sat outside in the sun having lunch and it was great to do...so. There was a good choice of sandwiches on offer, although sadly when we visited the crab was unavailable. We had the Coronation Chick Pea and Cheese and Chutney sandwiches, both of which were really tasty and came with a side salad. Nice selection of local beers and cider including Otter Bitter and Otter Bright and they were well kept and in excellent condition. Service was quick and the bar staff were really friendly.More

We were on Holiday in Woolacombe and decided to Give the meals a second chance as the food quality did go down. I must be honest and say the meals were outstanding, most of us experienced the ploughman’s great plate. To make this meal a...10 out 10 I would like to see a couple more types of cheeses. Apart from that would highly recommend.More

Friendly staff but shame the Ploughman’s I had didn’t match up!! One slice of shop bought fatty ham and a small wedge of mediocre cheddar. The bread roll was the best part of this, lovely and crusty and warm. There was about a whole bag...of mixed leaves salad that was old, yellow and even a couple of soggy bits mixed in - obviously not been checked before serving. I realise I should have pointed all this out and asked for a refund on the £12.50 paid but was on holiday and felt rather embarrassed but did show the guy who appeared in charge when leaving as I handed him the plate-no offer of refund so left and I feel justified in leaving this review.More

We came across this gem by chance after trying to avoid over busy Woolacombe and what a find! Lovely friendly staff and gorgeous food! Lots of variety to choose from and all freshly made and served quickly. It was a bonus that it is a...dog friendly pub too (they do have a non dog section if preferred) It was so good here that we changed our plans for the following day so we could go back again!More
