Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely pub meal on Saturday evening. It was busy but the service was friendly and efficient. Good selection of drinks and lovely pub food.

We have to this pub many times and decided to book a table for Sunday lunch at 2.30 pm. Having arrived at 2.30 pm I was concerned that another group at the bar had said they had booked a table to be told they could...sit anywhere! Having gone to the bar for an another pint at 3.00 pm the carvery was closed and when I asked why I was told they had run out of vegetable and potatoes- but they could do some mash! Amateurs in charge of what could be a decent place. Won’t be back.More

Drove to Mortehoe to see what was there. We saw this lovely pub and fancied a bite of lunch. I ordered a ham and mustard baguette and Mrs D chose the prawn cocktail. My baguette was delicious; lots of proper ham and plenty of mustard...in a lovely fresh baguette. Mrs D's prawn cocktail was enormous and came on a bed of fresh lettuce. She couldn't manage it all so I had to help out. It was very tasty!More

Visited a couple of times whilst we were in the area. Both times found the staff very friendly and accommodating and the food was great. Will definitely be visiting again.

We have stopped here for lunch a number of times over the years when walking in the area from Woolacombe. It is always great to sit in the sun having lunch and there is plenty of outdoor seating. The pub has a good choice of...local beers and cider. We had Exmoor Gold and Bay Devon Dumpling ales which were kept in great condition and Thatcher’s Gold Cider. We both had the Ploughman’s Lunch which came with a substantial piece of ham as well as cheese. We didn’t have to wait long for the food, even though the pub was busy on a sunny day.More

Absolutely no complaints. We asked for a takeaway carvery which isn’t on the takeaway menu. They provided all the takeaway containers (including for the gravy!) and were happy to do it. The food was excellent. Well done Ship Aground. We will be back. Incidentally The...Ship Aground is one of the few places in the Mortehoe and Woolacombe area that serves food all day. Lunch and takeaways from 12 noon until 9pm although the carvery finishes at 4pm. Excellent service with a smile.More

After stopping in the Mortehoe car park, the pub was the first we came to. The menu looked varied, so chose a curry, grill and a vegetarian chilli. All had ample portions. As it was so nice, we drove there again for a Sunday Carvery,...which was excellent. The room upstairs is a lovely area to dine. A good range of drinks, so would definitely visit again.More

Awful Prawn Cocktail, negative staff. If you want a better meal along with cheerier service, go next door. The Ship is Wrecked.

Not the best, staff couldn't give a toss, food not great. If you have walked up or gone round the cliffs to get to Mortehoe pop in for a drink, I'd give the food a miss. And deffo wouldn't get the car out to make...a special journey to the ship.More

Everything was poor. Staff didn't seem to offer any service at all. Went to the bar to order food and felt like an inconvenience. Food arrived and ir was very poor quality. Child's burger they wouldn't touch. Battered fish was soggy, burgers had an over...powering chutney taste which I guess was to mask the poor quality. Also there was a smell of horrible fat / oil on my hands from the chips and batter for hours after. No one came to check if the food was OK. We tried to make eye contact with the staff when leaving but they just looked away. We left most of the food and not a question as to why. Avoid this placeMore

Agree with 699tf- place is very unwelcoming to those with dogs and without, worst experience ever had, wouldn’t go back if we were paid to.
