Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walked from Cranbrook’s and we’re only going to have a drink and walk back. Smelt the food and asked if they had any tables free, didn’t think they would as it was very busy inside. Luckily could have a table in 15 min. Sat inside...by the bar and inside is lovely and roomy. Ordered roast beef and it was yummy. Melted in the mouth and 2 massive slices. 4 potatoes, Yorkshirepud, , cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, swede, broccoli and carrots and loads of gravy. We ordered regular for just over £13 each and next time I will have small as it was huge, luckily my husband ate what I left so was ok. The staff were so friendly and the food I can honestly say it’s the best roast we’ve had and we have tried lots of places in and around Exeter. We will definitely be returning, loads xMore

Delicious food and very large portions, very full but managed to fit dessert in which was very worth it. Board games to keep the kids occupied. Very friendly staff.

Very friendly and informal dining. The pub has been well refurbished and whilst the menu is a little limited, what they do have is well prepared, well presented and hearty. Good selection of beers and wine.

Very friendly welcoming pub. Had a great roast lunch; the small roast is a good portion of meat, Yorkshire and roasties, with all the veg in bowls on the table. Excellent quality, beef was cooked to perfection and the vegetables weren’t overcooked. Lovely selection including...red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. Service was attentive without feeling rushed. Wide choice of Puddings including sundaes, treacle sponge, chocolate brownies. Lemon curd Eton mess is to die for as is the biscoff sundae. Thank you for making our family lunch special, we all enjoyed ourselves and were well fed!More

We were made very welcome by all for our booked celebration buffet after the funeral of our mother at the nearby crematorium. The food was delicious - check out the samosas - and very plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.

My first time to eat here since the "makeover" by the new owners. I've used this pub since 1993 and was never disappointed by the food then - and wasn't disappointed this time! A warm welcome from the owners and the food and service was...good. Simple pub food, well cooked and plenty of it. I will certainly be back despite living 30 miles away rather than the 3 miles I had to travel hitherto !More

We were there for dinner on a very busy, cold and wet Friday evening. As soon as we walked in, it was a lovely atmosphere, warm and cosy. Very welcoming, efficient, friendly service and everything was spot on. We had a great night, the time...flew by and the bill was really reasonable. Highly recommended.More

Went for Sunday lunch for the 1st time since the refurb. Had pate to start which was ok, roast beef for main. The beef was very tender, nice big selection of veg, the roast potatoes seemed like they were cooked in advance then reheated. Very...hard and didn't taste nice. The extension is very bland and there was no atmosphere. You could hear everyone's conversation ,could do with some music maybe. Also, a nightmare place to get to on a Saturday night if you wanted a few beers as no transport from Cranbrook. Needs local taxi firm on board then I would go more.More

Had an excellent meal with friends on Sunday this week, 2 roasts, fish and chip and a pie of the day were all excellent, the team were friendly and welcoming, and the food was excellent value for money, plus I have never tasted Cauliflowere Cheese...like it, really amazing, could have eaten just that and been happy. Will return and well done everyoneMore

It's a lovely pub. Staff are lovely. Today we were kept waiting longer and felt forgotten tbh. Our main course was great, but our dessert was mostly just a bowl of cream, not the good lemon curd Eton mess we have had there before. Shame,...its usually really good. Hopefully next time it will be better again.More
