Quiet little cove away from the large and always busy wollacombe beach. Have a beach cafe in a container that is craned in at the start of every season and during the day serve food and drinks but in the evening serve Sri-Lankan curries. 3 curries, rice and poppadums are £14 for an adult and £8 for a child and are delicious. A visit is always a must for us when we are in the area.

Delicious and balanced curry based meal in a beautiful spot. Every evening they make a meat and veg curry, which are served with rice, daal, two veg sides and poppdums. They are gluten and dairy free.
It was chicken when we went (and a few days ago when we checked- maybe it’s always chicken?). I had chicken and my husband had veggie. He also had the fresh pineapple juice which was delicious.
I love that this was a full balanced Sri Lankan dish, with the varied sides I would hope for. The daal was lovely.
I also love that I didn’t have to worry about gluten, as I have coeliac disease.
The location is lovely, and as a pregnant person it was exhausting to walk back up the steep hill afterwards back to the esplanade, but there is a handrail to drag oneself up!

We first came for a curry to Barricane Beach Cafe couple of years ago. We were blown away by the whole experience of being able to enjoy a delicious Sri Lanken curry sat on this beautiful sandy beach... and it was delicious!
Unfortunately I can't say the same for the one we had recently. We both had a chicken curry, which came with a couple of slices of dryish chicken, potatoes, some shredded veg and some plain soggy dahl with very little flavours. Few broken pieces of popodoms were on top of it, which by the time I sat down and started eating were also soggy.
Currently definatly not worth £15 a portion, but I can forget that part, I just feel really disappointed that it has lost its magic.
Please bring back the curry you used to serve. It would be such a shame to spoil this wonderful experience you created.

This is a small cafe no indoor seating has a small seating area for food and drink. Had a Devon cream tea which was delicious.
Went tonight and had the homemade Sri Lankan curry which was delicious and filling.
Would recommend people to try this cafe stops serving at around 7ish.

We have been to the Sumith's café many times before and the standard never drops.
Yesterday I had, possibly, the best hot sandwich of my life.
The devilled beef ciabata was gorgeous, my wife had the Iberian chicken and each of my girls a choice of wrap.
Everything was FULL and overflowing with flavour. Even my young girls enjoyed the spice and the flavour profile.
Served as a takeaway in recyclable materials we could then walk down the beach to a quiet spot and enjoy amongst the rock pools.
100% recommended. Great service and polite despite the constant flow of demanding customers.

While I struggled to find very much online about the cafe prior to the visit it came highly recommended so we trusted those recommendations. We were not disappointed. The food is well presented, tastes fantastic and served in a beautiful location. A must for anyone visiting the area!

This little beach shack cafe serves Sri Lankan curries between 5and 7pm. Cash only. Long queues, but moved quickly, as very slick service. Adult portion £13, kids portion £7. We had the veggie option, which is a mix of 3 different curries, poppadum and rice. It comes in a compostable take-away box with wooden fork, and the cafe has dedicated rubbish bins so I am hopeful the waste is actually being composted. Great curries, mild and delicious. My younger child had a jacket potato with plenty of butter quality ham, and small amount of salad for £5. We sat on the beach with a huge crowd as the tide was high, and watched the sun set. Nice friendly atmosphere.

The biggest draw is the location, it is such a beautiful bay, a real treat to spend time at.
The Sri Lankan curry was nice but quite overpriced as the portion for each curry is small and extras are a lot for tiny amounts. You are really paying for the place and the experience.

We came here several times for the vanilla ice cream which was delicious. Came back one evening for the Sri Lankan curry and had mixed feeling. Each box of chicken curry with rice, chickpea, salad veg and poppadom at £13.50 was a bit pricey considering there were only three pieces of chicken which were quite dry. The sides were very tasty though. Extra spicy only meant chilli oil on top of the curry. Sad to say, a little disappointed.

We ate here whilst staying in Woolacombe. With a glorious sunny evening we decided to go down to the beach for one of their Sri Lankan curries. This was excellent and certainly good value. They offer both a meat and vegetarian option and both are gluten free. The experience was enhanced by the ambiance of sitting on the beach. This is not haute cuisine but definitely an experience to be savoured when visiting Woolacombe.

We saw lots of positive reviews about the curry which is available from 5 pm each night. We all tried different curries m and they were all very good. For a large curry it’s quite pricy but for a holiday treat well worth it.

Love this cafe, visited a few years back and it hasn't lost it's charm! Curry on the beach of an evening, fresh and great portion size!
Salad and baguettes for lunch today, much the same, fresh, great flavours and service with a smile.
Love having a mug of coffee on the beach and china plate to eat from, the staff never seem to stop and always smiling, what a credit to the cafe and customer service.

We bought lunch there which was good, and then had the Curry in the evening. Again the food was really good. Previously our kids had the curry but this time requested pizza. When leaving the beach we took all our rubbish with us and put it in the bins by the cafe. However, one staff member informed me that I couldn't put pizza boxes in there only the rubbish from the cafe..........really! Their business is based on the beach!! and it remaining clean and a nice place to visit. Earlier in the day I had found a broken bottle amongst the rocks and picked up all the pieces and put them in the same bin. It was really embarassing to be made to remove the boxes from the bin. I should have refused but all the cafe staff seemed to want to come to the window to join in this pathetic ritual humiliation of a customer. I tried to explain that we had purchased about £100 worth of food from the cafe but it seemed pointless to remonstrate with people with such a poor understanding of good business sense.

This place was recommended by a local and didn’t disappoint,
We went for the curry on the beach option, the choice was vegan or chicken, and it was delicious. We were able to get one of the four tables available by the cafe which was great and contrary to other reviews we were able to get drinks and other food if we wanted it.
Beautiful beach, lovely little cove. Dogs allowed on the beach but must be on a lead.
