We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance whilst driving through Bridport and what a find!! We had a 3 course lunch for £20 each which was such fantastic value for money. The menu options were very good and I had 2 of the offers specials for the day. Social distancing advise was being observed and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I can't stress the food quality enough - I had mussels to start, the seabags special and the cherries in amaretto special and was very impressed with the quality, presentation and exception value for money. Would definitely recommend and return should we be passing that way again.

Thanks for the great review, I'm so pleased to hear that you stumbled our way and enjoyed your visit to Olive Tree. I think that the lunchtime deal is particularly good value too and the cherries dish (a firm favourite of mine) is only available for a few weeks of the year so I'm pleased that you got to try it. We hope to see you again when you are next passing our way. Kind regards, Simon.

Very attentive staff and fantastic food. Every member of our party of 10 loved their meals which were cooked fresh in front of us in the open kitchen. A few of us opted for "the spectacular" which was a mixed seafood dish. The name meant it had alot to live up to and it certainly did that. It wasn't the cheapest dish but offered incredible value given the variety of seafood that was served up. My wife also thought her steak was one of the best she'd ever had. I just wish we had found this place earlier in the holiday as there were so many more delicious sounding dishes we would've loved to have tried.

Thanks for the fabulous review, I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Olive Tree. We often see customers return several times during their holiday so it's a shame that you didn't find us earlier - you'll just have to come back to beautiful West Dorset again ;) It was a customer that came up with the name for our mixed seafood dish and it's been a permanent fixture on our menu ever since. Kind regards, Simon.

We walked in on the off chance that the Olive Tree would have a table when staying in the area. We were so pleased that they did! The food exceeded our expectations, service was great and good value for the food that was served. We would recommend to anyone visiting the area. The seafood was wonderful. If we had to find anything to feedback on it would be that they don’t accept American Express - very minor point and literally the only niggle that we can find.

Thanks for the great review, I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Olive Tree and look forward to seeing you here again. We did try offering Am-Ex but they kept sending our money to a beauty clinic in Henley and that together with their horrible accounting system made it impossible to continue. Sorry :( Kind regards, Simon.

Me and a friend had booked a table here the evening before. On the night of the booking we were running a bit late and called the restaurant to let them know, they said not a problem that our table would still be there. We got to the restaurant and were warmly welcomed in and shown to our table. The table was directly in front of an open kitchen, I have spent my childhood years in and out of hospital with severe ear problems have had surgery on my eardrums to the point where I now have scar tissue and am extremely sensitive to loud noises I cannot even go to the cinema as it can hurt my ears. Sitting in front of the noisy kitchen, I could hear clanging and banging of plates and pots and pans, the noise of cutlery being put away, the chefs calling over to each other, all the standard kitchen noise etc I was really struggling to hear what my friend across the table was saying and felt very claustrophobic, So we politely asked the waitress whether it would be possible to move tables. As soon as we asked this everything changed, the waitress didn't seem happy, we could hear the chefs throwing a strop and one of them very loudly said he did not respond to criticism well. And they proceeded to be angry. Me and my friend felt really embarrassed, we weren't criticising anyone. We got told to move to another table which a couple were just leaving from. We felt a bit awkward about sitting down as we weren’t sure whether it had been sanitised or not, we then had to wait a while to get served all the while we could still hear the chefs moaning about us. One of the chefs even stormed through the restaurant with a beer drank it outside and came back through again. The servers didn’t want to seem to serve us. We felt like we shouldn’t be there, it was awkward and horrible, not enjoyable at all. Finally got asked if we wanted anything and we decided we would just go for starters and leave because the atmosphere was so tense. Was given our starters which were lovely, but then sat and waited ages and ages before being given a dessert menu which we didn’t want, we just wanted to leave. We felt so ashamed, everyone around us was having a lovely time, so why were we singled out just because I couldn’t handle the loud noise and made to feel embarrassed. Again we waited to ask for the bill and waited to pay. Yes the restaurant was busy, but there were plenty of staff on, none of which wanted anything to do with us. We hadn’t been asked whether the starters were ok and when we finally left we said thank you and goodbye and no reaction from them. They wanted us out. A really truly vile experience and totally unnecessary considering we had been really polite. We were looking for a nice place and this seemed nice but they showed their true colours. If you are looking for a truly great experience in Bridport I highly recommend The Bull, we had 5* service and the food was exceptional. The olive tree should be ashamed of themselves for their treatment of us.

We went to this restaurant on a wet Monday evening in January but our sprits were immeasurably lifted by the food and service we enjoyed at this very special establishment. Our meal was served promptly, was really well cooked and was truly delicious. What more could we ask for when the service was so attentive without being in any sense intrusive? The visit to this restaurant was for a family celebration and there is no doubt in our minds that we will return soon.

We went to the Olive Tree while on a week’s holiday in the area, with our 2 children aged 11 and 10. During the week kids main meals are free which is a very generous offer in the current climate. The restaurant is not the largest, but the way it is set out gives it a very intimate feel, and the decor is modern, and trendy without trying too hard. The staff were all fantastic. All were very friendly and very attentive and we we were incredibly well looked after. My wife and I have eaten in restaurants all over London, including those sporting Michelin stars and other awards, and I have to say the quality of the food was right up there. My wife even put the meal down as “the best meal I’ve ever had”. The food was presented “normally”. By this I mean that in my experience a lot of restaurants try to over present the food to compensate for a lack of quality. This restaurant purely allows the quality of the food, and the expertise of the chefs to speak for itself. At no point in the evening did we feel rushed, and we were able to relax and enjoy the ambience of the Olive Tree with an ideal time between courses. I would thoroughly, thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anybody who enjoys good food in a relaxed environment. Even if outside the area it’s well worth travelling to. We visited during a time when sadly Covid 19 seems to be on the rise, and I cannot speak highly enough on the cleanliness of the restaurant and the protective measures taken by all of the staff there. I have been on this site for a number of years and I believe this is the first review I have left on any restaurant, but I felt the quality of absolutely every aspect of our evening deserved this glowing feedback.

I have to say, this place never fails to amaze. Prawns to start, steak for my main, fresh food and amazing presentation. Shoutout the gentleman who cooked my prawns, full of flavour, a real delight to start off. Shoutout to the young chef who cooked my steak, medium-rare was the request and he provided the goods. A real culinary skill and a star in the making. Well done olive tree, Monday meal done right

Thanks for the great review, I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Olive Tree and hope to see you here again. We've got a great team of people here from teenagers that share our passion for food and are just starting their careers to wizened old buggers like me who have 'had the t-shirt' for so long that it's getting threadbare :) We constantly train all our staff and push them to take on more responsibility for our restaurant's reputation, so it's always pleasing to see that customers appreciate their effort and hard work. Kind regards, Simon.

We couldn’t fault our experience here. Chose same mains as previous review, sea bass beautifully cooked. Vegetables looked dull initially but actually were so perfectly cooked and tasty. Super bottle of Lebanese red which waitress decanted and allowed breathing time before mains were served a nice touch and unexpected. Shared starter of Italian antipasti just right. Cheese course to finish was lovely. Service excellent. Plates taken back to hot plate while taking a “comfort break” was also nice touch. I do not like open kitchens as a rule but it certainly was not an issue watching these professionals at work. Friendly and knowledgeable team overall. Will definitely return.

We treated ourselves to lunch here today, and are very glad that we did. The spiced prawn and mushroom pate starters were both delicious. The sea bass and sea trout specials were lovely, served with perfectly cooked vegetables. With a single dessert, one glass of wine, a soft drink and a coffee we thought the £54 bill represented good value for money for some of the best food we’ve eaten in a long time.

Although arriving without a reservation, the waiter/server who welcomed us managed to fit us in despite first saying they were fully booked for the evening and in my eyes put us on the best table in the restaurant. The food was stunning and the service from the same waiter who also then looked after us for the evening was excellent; his sense of humour and descriptions of the menu were Oscar-worthy and managed to make the simplest of menu options sound mouth watering and interesting. An overall great service which made us feel very welcome despite not booking in advance.

The restaurants lunch time 2/3 course menu offers quality food at a very reasonable cost. There was several choices for each course including vegetarian options. The staff are efficient and friendly. The restaurant is simple in its decor and furnishings obviously concentrating on the quality of their food. Well done.

We booked the day before and arrived at 8pm to find the place vibrant with a few tables outside on a beautiful summer evening and people queuing to get in. People without bookings were being turned away so make sure you book. The Moroccan Prawns starter was a revelation and I was glad of the slice of rustic loaf to mop up the sauce. We both had catch of the day which was sea bass - beautifully cooked and accompanied by delicious seasonal vegetables. The cubed yellow vegetable upon enquiry was golden beetroot - I’ll have to try growing these back home and use in our own cooking. We were sat near the open kitchen and enjoyed earwigging the chef’s banter and occasional singing. The desserts were also excellent, so often an afterthought in restaurants, but not here. We drank local wine and beer, so a true celebration of Dorset’s food offering. We’ll be back!

The walk through and up to one of the upstairs dining rooms was quite quirky - the staff were very professional and took time to explain the specials. I had some questions in regards to gluten free options and was so grateful to the chef for accommodating my request. My family had fabulous meals all flavoured and fresh and tasty. I would say the music was slightly loud and very changeable, that being said the atmosphere and the food of this lovely restaurant is to be very recommended.

What can I say, except, fantastic. The staff were very friendly (yes, all of you!) and that was just the start of it. The three of us (including a little guest) were made to feel very welcome and, in turn, were instantly put at ease. There was great help with the menu/ wine list, and our food was served promptly, but not hurried. The food was amazing, beautifully prepared, presented and tasted great. The chefs also interacted and one will now be known as the Olive Tree Flaming Meat Man! The experience was a truly lovely one and I, for one, look forward to returning. Oh yes, the Salted Caramel Cheesecake!! Thank you for giving us a lovely evening.
