Booked for Sunday lunch requesting to eat in the garden, not possible to reserve garden tables, but one inside was saved for us just in case we changed our mind or the weather did not hold. It turned out to be a warm sunny day and we found a quiet table in the garden. The 3 course lunch was excellent with a choice of roasts as well as other dishes including fish and vegetarian meals. We enjoyed a scampi starter with tasty mayonnaise, then roast beef with a huge batter pudding and a cottage pie. The vegetables were a good mix with herbs to add interest. For dessert we had cheesecake with fresh raspberries and pear tart with pear sorbet. The portions were very generous. We finished the meal with coffee and petit fours, small but very rich! The staff were friendly and very attentive so we did not have to wait long for service. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch.

When we are on holiday in Burton Bradstock we like to come at least twice during our stay. I booked a table as usual but of course this time there are Covid rules. No problems booking and as usual Sharon was in charge. The car park was full when we arrived for 7pm but we were greeted warmly as before and followed the Covid one way system. There was hand gel which we were advised to use.We had our usual table in the window and the other tables were spread apart. Nice chat to Sharon about the trials and tribulations of the Covid restrictions but they are trying to get back to some normality. My wife now has to have Gluten Free food, this was no problem as the chef could adapt most of the menu. We ordered crab mayonnaise each to start then i had the nuggets of monkfish wrapped in parma ham with roasted vegetables whilst she had the half shoulder of lamb, that had been de-boned with a gluten free gravy and french beans. Desserts were Chocolate Nemesis, which is gluten free, with ice cream and i had the pineapple upside down sponge with custard. As i have said in previous reports the custard is home made and is not as thick as you would expect. Wife had a glass of Pinot Grigio and for myself Palmers 200 shandy. We had been given a voucher by friends so that reduced the bill. In conclusion we think that even with the Covid restrictions this wonderful pub/restaurant and the staff will always the one place to go .

A really traditional pub with a warm welcome, helpful team and most importantly delicious food sensibly priced. Dinner was a delight and we also had pub supper main courses for a large group delivered to a nearby property. Friendly and professional throughout , exactly as requested and highly complimented by all the group. Could not ask for more and would love to return.

We decided on a trip down memory lane and decided mid-afternoon to re-visit the Marquis of Lorne. Our phone message was promtly dealt with and booking confirmed. On arrival the Covid code was observed without feeling oppressive. We were shown to our table and our drinks order taken immediately. Our orders were accurately and efficiently taken. Our starters were beautifully presented. I had the tiger prawns and my wife the pate. Both delicious. My chicken, bacon and leek pudding was served with some of the best chips i can recall. It was a wonderful, yet simple dish. My wife had the shredded duck (starter sized) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I only had a very good cup of coffee, mmy wife a brilliant chocolate pudding The beer was well kept and the service throughout was attentive without being obtrusive. The overall experience was great. We first stayed here about 40 years ago and it was great then and was instrumental in our decision to live in the area. It was really good to bring back happy memories, ably assisted by the current excellent owners and a good team

Pleasant pub (although interior decor is somewhat eccentric). Food is very average for a Sunday lunch. Only vegetarian option was curry for main and macaroni cheese for starter which reminded me of school dinners. However food was quite tasty, just nothing special.

I called up this restaurant hoping to book a table for the same day. Sadly, there wasn’t anything available but the friendly lady I spoke to informed me that if it wasn’t raining we could still order food if we sat outside. When we arrived there were lots of tables available outside including a few under shelter, one of which we nabbed because the clouds did look a bit ominous. We ordered the Dorsey dressed crab and the local lamb burger as well as a treacle sponge pudding and an apple and rhubarb crumble. The food was delicious. The staff and atmosphere were very warm and friendly. Overall a lovely evening. Would definitely recommend booking a few days in advance as the inside did get very busy.

We ate dinner here three times whilst on holiday in a cottage near Bridport. Our only very slight niggle was the somewhat abrupt tone of one of the staff. Other staff were excellent and service was largely prompt, efficient and courteous. The food quality was excellent and my wife's requirement for gluten-free food was fully understood and met. This place is situated up very narrow country roads, but there were plenty of passing places and there was adequate parking at the restaurant. We would recommend The Marquis to anyone staying in the vicinity.

Just going for a pub meal then don't come here because their fayre is well above the ordinary. Beautifully presented, good portions and every mouthful a tasty treat with the added bonus that it's no more expensive than your average pub grub. Nice garden if you want to sit outside. I have been here several times and one word of advice is that like 99% of all pubs it is difficult to maintain real ale in the summer. Overall well recommended.

We have just returned from a 3 night Stay at the Marquis Of Lorne. We travelled as 9 adults & reserved 5 rooms for the duration of our stay. We were attending a family wedding nearby. I have nothing but praise for the most wonderful welcome we received from Tracy & her amazing team… We felt so at home within the establishment & nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful, quaint, spotlessly clean rooms awaited us. Lovely thoughtful touches within our rooms & fresh milk for teas & coffees always a bonus!! Our first dinner was a complete winner, fresh produce, beautifully presented & a fantastic selection of culinary delights on the menu…. The bar is well stocked too! Wedding morning - we came down for our first breakfast another absolute delight…. Again an impressive breakfast table awaited… 9 guests, all with varying egg requests, again no trouble. From the freshest fruit salad with Greek yoghurt & local honey to a grand full English, or any combination of cooked choices, we were set up for the day. One mention of a iron from the party & bless Tracy up she pops with iron & board all set up for us - no bother. I could wax lyrical for much longer… a true gem, total jewel in the crown in stunning Nettlecombe. You could not be disappointed. My thanks again for looking after us so well. Regards Families, Stansfield, Ratcliffe, Holmes & Rowlands xxxx

We spent a long weekend here in June and were really happy we did. The Marquis of Lorne is located in a quiet rural Dorset setting that is totally relaxing. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble for them. Bridport and the beaches are within easy striking distance but when you come back you are away from the hustle and bustle. The the food is so good that there's a risk of putting in the pounds (or kilos of you're metric) but well worth taking the chance! In summary a really lovely place, worth every penny and more!!

This is a great place for a well-presented and delicious meal. You do have to negotiate Dorset's narrow lanes to reach it but it's worth the effort. We had the pork belly and the lamb's liver for our mains. Liver is often too thickly sliced and overcooked; this was perfection, as good as any posh French restaurant. Very reasonably priced and friendly local staff. It was full, which is testament to its quality and reputation. Very highly recommended.

We had a lovely lunch for eight and everyone enjoyed it. There is quite a long menu here; we had some venison carpaccio and soup to start then pheasant, aubergine parmigiana, ham egg and chips and suet puddings with pork and chorizo (yummy). Not many wanted a pudding but the waffles were appreciated and the treacle sponge I had with custard was very good and light (but it could have done with a bit more treacle). Delicious cider and nice beer but no bitter on tap sadly. Service was good although I felt they did want to get rid of us a bit at the end - maybe we'd stayed a bit long. Would I come back? Like a shot. This is good cooking, imaginative too, and better than most pubs.

Not the easiest place to get to get to very narrow lanes and some mad drivers. But the food was amazing. Only small gripe was one of the staff looked disgusted when I asked for ketchup to go with the pork belly I was having. All other staff were very welcoming.

. We think this is the best place to eat in the area and we have tried many.Steve the owner,is the chef and a very good one.Tracy his wife is sometimes front of house and behind the bar along with Sharon who seems to be there always. Lovely out of the way Palmers pub with ample car parking and nice garden.A very eclectic mix on the menu which caters for all diets including Gluten Free. They can adapt the menus to suit.We had the soup with gluten free bread and scallops and black pudding on mash for me.Wife had the sea bass fillets and i had the whole lemon sole, filletted with veg and chips.Desserts were meringue nest with fruit and warm waffle with bananas and toffee sauce. It is essential to book a table as it is very popular and can get crowded.Covid restrictions do still apply in areas.

We dropped by for food. It was normal prices for the area and the kind of food ie not overly expensive. We thought the food was great. We had the stuffed aubergine with salad. That was delicious. And pork belly with mash, gravy and apple sauce which was also great, very well presented, well cooked and hot. Good drinks, good service, beautiful location. There is seating inside and out. We are fussy and it's not often we are impressed by restaurants! We will be going again. They also do accommodation I believe.
