Have been coming to Soulshine during the day for a long time and always loved the vibe, so when looking for an evening meal before a film at the Art Centre it was a no-brainer. We ordered 5 small plates and every one was a taste sensation. The chef chose what order to serve them. We had hummus with crispy lamb, and sauerkraut and orange salad followed by beetroot salad, local brie and potato salad. No ordinary potato salad though. Why has nobody ever thought of ROAST potato salad before? It's out of this world. Great service, friendly and relaxed. With a glass of wine each we paid £21 each and we're dlready planning a return visit when we don't have to rush off.

We had an excellent lunch at Soulshine, having come across a reference to it, (in the FT's How to Spend It magazine of all places but rest assured it is great value for money!), by chance while staying locally. Delicious sandwiches and toasties (Fontal cheese and kimchi was a great combination), alongside a range of small plates (rather English tapas style, using seasonal produce) - we had grilled asparagus with mayonnaise, and fava bean hummus with feta, both went down very well. Polished off the meal with the best coffee we'd had all week in Dorset and a delicious chocolate and peanut slice. Atmosphere and décor was very relaxed, with plenty of outdoor seating (and it was dog friendly too) and the staff were very friendly staff as well. The dinner menu looked excellent too but sadly was only open Friday and Saturday evenings and couldn't make it. No doubt a cliché to say but back in London you would pay a lot more for something of this quality in a trendy bistro in Notting Hill or Chelsea. Definitely worth a visit.

A fabulous evening at the new set up in Bridport. We traveled from Lyme Regis and expectations were high having read reviews and spoken to the owners prior to arrival. They didn’t let us down. A very friendly welcome for us and our dog Bertie. The food was outstanding and plentiful. We had olives and the amazing Fava bean hummus with sourdough bread. Then ribeye steak potatoes and asparagus in kimchi Mayo and cod on a bed of locally picked wild mushrooms. We shared the croissant chocolate bread pudding and they kindly wrapped up some cheese to take home with the remaining wine (driving). I hope the venture is a success. Better than sunshine, let your soulshine (the Allman Brothers).

I have been coming to this cafe for well over ten years when I visit Bridport - that’s about three times a year. I look forward to my visit with a good selection of vegan and vegetarian options available. I have met friends there and recommended to other friends. I was so disappointed and saddened too by the rude and aggressive attitude of the man who greeted me this lunchtime. I was told to wait behind a ‘wait to be seated’ sign in a very unpleasant way and he pointed to the exact spot where he expected me to stand. I asked if there was a seat for me while I waited and he again pointed to the spot he wanted me stand on. I remarked that this attitude wasn’t going to work for me and turned to leave. As I did so, he then tried to gain the ‘moral victory’ by telling me to leave. In nearly 62 years of being on this planet, I’ve never ever been asked to leave anywhere! I hope that I am polite, respectful and kind to all. I have off days that’s for sure but this wasn’t one of them. A man who had witnessed the exchange followed me outside and confirmed that I had been dealt with very rudely. My friends arrived soon after and we found somewhere else to have lunch. They have recently moved to area and were looking forward to eating at this cafe that I had highly recommended. I think they have become regular customers. I won’t be going back sadly despite over 15 years of occasional but regular visits unless I hear that there has been a change of staff, ownership or management. That’s a shame for me.

Terrible treatment by manager, left without buying food. The table we were allocated was next to a couple with a poorly behaved dog that was running underneath the table we were supposed to be sat at. I have a phobia of dogs so declined and respectfully asked to be sat at another table. The only other available was for 4 unfortunately we were told that as it was a table for 4 we could not sit there despite no one else waiting. Again, no worries was happy to wait for another table for 2 to come along. The manager then pretty much refused to allow us to sit in the main restaurant and told us we had to sit at the front on bar stools in the shop area. We were still sat down and in the cafe for around 20 minutes and no ‘large group’ miraculously appeared. After the way we were treated I didn’t feel happy eating here and felt this was unreasonable. It’s a real shame as the food looked good and the other staff members were very friendly, but the treatment from the manager was abysmal. Felt like it has ruined the last day of our holiday.

We booked a dinner here and asked for vegan options. The staff were very helpful in pointing out what was vegan on the menu - and what we had was a real delight. Fresh, innovative and delicious. There was a bit of delay between some of the dishes, but it was well worth the wait. We went back the next day for brunch and that didn't disappoint either.

Soulshine brought a much needed tonic to a rainy day whilst on holiday with our 4yo and 1yo. We feasted on freshly baked sourdough, hummus with pickles, spiced cauli and chickpeas, warming veg soup and asparagus topped tortilla - the kids got stuck in with everything and the grown ups got lots of ideas for our next dinner party. We finished our meal with delicious decaf oat cappuccinos (turns out the decaf is roasted by the barista himself) and vegan cakes - brownie cheesecake and an orange and tahini slice. Friendly service and great to be surrounded by other families and other tables who, whilst childless, were happy to interact with our sociable toddler. After too many beige and mediocre cafe lunches the past few days this was a wonderful celebration of colour, texture and flavour, and terrific value at £50 all in for four full tummies. A great relaxed lunch - can we come back tomorrow?!

Live local but the First time we have visited this evening for our friend's anniversary,a group of four we had fantastic food, amazing flavours, I'm the veggie of the group and found so much available for me,.the local asparagus was amazing, our server explained the menu perfectly, small plates of delicious food arrived throughout the evening with plenty of tasty local fizz and beers, the chilled out service and atmosphere mixed with high end, good quality food was wonderful only to be topped off by some of the best coffee I've had in a long time. Fabulous place, will visit again and recommend, well done team soulshine.

When we asked someone from Bridport to recommend a quirky café, they mentioned Soul Shine and we are so grateful. The food is incredible, whoever devises the menu knows about flavour. The menu has plenty of vegetarian options, with incredible tapas dishes (which the waiter advised us to choose multiple dishes). The staff were so friendly and helpful. On the way out we picked up a flapjack which was just incredible and a vegan chocolate slice which was fantastic. I’m already thinking of returning.

Our first visit since the new people took over and the menu offered only 3 choices for lunch. I had the salad bowl-quite tasty but a small helping. Husband had tortilla, again a tiny portion. You would have needed both for one person’s full lunch but this isn’t clear from the menu. They no longer do smoothies-wrong decision guys! And the coffee machine was broken! A sullen server topped off the experience.

My partner booked Soulshine for his 70th birthday celebration with 25 guests. The menu consisted of small plates with all food preferences and intolerances respectfully catered for. The food is locally sourced, all dishes were beautifully presented, delicious and kept on coming! Joel, Andy and the team were fantastic hosts, from welcoming the guests, to explaining the menu and keeping the glasses topped up. They made my partner’s birthday feel very special and personal and made it an event, rather than just a birthday meal. Everybody had a brilliant time.

This is quite a sweet cafe and a pleasant place to sit albeit very expensive for what it is (and I live in Brighton so I’m used to overpriced!). The drinks and cake were nice and the breakfast decent other than the absolutely awful bacon!! It’s probably some sort of natural, organic, hand cured something or other but it was genuinely foul, I can’t believe anyone prefers this to a good quality normal butchers bacon. It was tough as old boots with a huge strip of rubbery fat and smelled and tasted like an old pork chop! Covering it in seeds doesn’t help either.

We have eaten Andy's food since his days as Head Chef down at River Cottage HQ. We have been on his courses, I did some work experience with him down at River Cottage and have basically become somewhat of a stalker!! I own the Popup Kitchen in Lyme Regis and I was blessed to have Andy and Joel (Goose & Badger) at the Popup Kitchen for a few months. They had a massive following and decided to make the leap into getting their own premises in Bridport. They could not have found anywhere better, the vibe of the place is incredible. They have an incredible team who make you feel totally welcome and special. Last night we decided to treat ourself to a meal and it was just the best night, food, wine and service. We ate oysters, incredible steak and vegetables to die for. All you need is the vegetable dishes and you still feel that you have died and gone to heaven. We are also very fortunate that they have taken on our daughter as their apprentice and she has never been happier because of the whole team. You guys are super super special and great things are happening. You know how gushy I get with you guys, but it is for good reason. Absolutely incredible xxxxx

As ever, a warm welcome and superbly presented food and drink. We had a variety of weird and wonderful dietary requirements which were all very carefully noted and then reflected in the delicious plates of food that just kept on coming. The scallops, especially, were superb. A fun evening, couldn't have asked for more, and by the time we left, couldn't have eaten any more either!

Have been here many times in the past, but not recently. A waitress showed us to a table which was close to other people and as we are still being careful re covid I asked if we could sit somewhere else, but was told the other tables were for more people, appreciate the need to fill tables, but there were only 4 tables out of about 15 with people on them. So we decided to sit outside. Felt he waitress's attitude was a bit off, she then took a while to come back for our order. My partner and I had coffee and a brownie to share which were all good except the filter coffee was lukewarm, but had hot milk with it so ok. The waitress then came back while we were still drinking our coffee's to take our empty plate from between us without saying anything. Maybe she is new to the job! She made us feel very uncomfortable, so disappointing visit. Hopefully next time will be better.
