Ate here a couple of times on our recent trip to Highlands End. At the time of booking there was a full menu in place, however, prior to our stay the menu appeared to have been altered to an Italian theme. This wasn't an issue but it would have been nice to have a bit more choice, I'm not sure why they couldn't have left the original menu in place, albeit reduced perhaps. The food we had was good, no issues at all. We ordered via the app as they suggested we do, again, this was fine, easy to use. It was disappointing to see it so quiet, not sure why it wasn't busier, it's hard going for the leisure industry at the minute so I'd hope people staying on the site do go and support the restaurant/bar. The staff were good too - there was one busy evening where they all looked rushed off their feet but did a good job under the circumstances.

So thought we would give the carvery another go having been in September and deciding it was just ok. Having been to some other local eateries for carvery and very much enjoying we decided we owed Martin's Bar another try. One child disliked her carvery so much last time that she chose something else, a burger, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It did look good in all fairness. The rest of us had carvery. Unfortunately the meats we had were very dry which hadn't happened on our first visit. The roast potatoes and roast parsnips were really nice, just like last time. It's nice to see proper roast parsnips rather than boiled. Lots of other veg. We tried the cauliflower cheese dubiously having not been happy with the cheese sauce last time and it was far improved this time. Still not a fan of the mini sausages or stuffing balls but you cant please everyone. This is pitched as the best roast on the coast. I think it still has a way to go to gain this title as there are some cracking carveries around but maybe that will come with time

We've been coming here every summer for 2 weeks for 6 years. Every year Martin's has been so great we'd eat there pretty much every day. The new menu is the worst yet. A strange selection of food and a reduced amount of choice compared to prior years. The curry is left over re-heated carvery. Every meal we had was just average and disappointing. There was 14 of us this time and after 3 disappointing meals we ate elsewhere for the rest of the holiday. Already booked our holiday for next year so will try it once and if no good we'll support another business instead

We had Sunday carvery on a very wet and windy February day. Martin's was cosy and welcoming, a Palmers gold on draught and a generous and delicious roast. Choice of 3 meats and so many vegetables that I didn't have room on my plate to try them all. One thing I do want to know and that is how did chef do the swede? I'm still thinking about it, it was so good. As was the cauliflower cheese! And the parsnips. All of it really!

Hi Sarah - we're really pleased you enjoyed your lunch with us. The swede gets steamed, then mashed to a puree with butter, salt, pepper and a little cream. That's it - simple!!! But we do have a great local veg supplier in Cains Farm so I have no doubt it helps to have a great fresh product to start with! We hope to welcome you again soon

We were here a few years ago and left a glowing review, not this time. Started off with a midweek takeaway, small portion but ok. However when we went to pick it up walked in and came to a sign that said wait here to be seated, as ours was takeaway I walked to the bar, my wife was a little way back and the manageress was rude to her saying we should have waited at the sign, the sigh didn't tell us that for takeaways. Went for Sunday lunch, not a good decision. Totally different atmosphere from a few years ago. They make you pay before your meal in case you hold money back. Food when it came was cold, I asked for some horseradish sauce it never came, not once did they ask if everything was okay. The whole place looks like an upmarket transport cafe. We will not be back.

Thank you for your feedback concerning your visit to us in July. Your feedback has been shared with the team. We have tried our hardest, in a very large venue to communicate how to enter the building so that we are able to follow Government and company guidelines during these very difficult times in hospitality. We endeavour to have a member of the team based at the door so we can immediately help - but this is not always possible and I'm sorry upon your entering the building this seems to be the case. Unfortunately if we do not ask our guests to comply with the requirements then we also can receive significant negative feedback from other guests. We always try to communicate politely to all of our visitors - and we work very hard to offer a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all of our guests - no matter what menu or time of visit - Im extremely sorry if you did not feel we achieved this on your visit to us. Out of necessity our Sunday Lunch had changed from a bustling, self-service carvery option to a plated served lunch and of course would have a different feel to the service - we very much look forward to restarting our extremely popular Sunday Carvery option this Autumn - fingers crossed for no further Government restrictions on our service style. Because of our size, our system is that orders are paid for at the time of ordering. We have been so for many years now, and it is a common style of service in larger venues. Our till and online system simply operates this way. Smaller country pubs are perhaps able to offer a tab based system - but I can assure you it has nothing to do with a worry of withheld payment! Our decor is part of an extreme refurbishment about 5 years ago - we have real vintage fire engines on display alongside a host of vintage, local fire memorabilia. We are extremely proud of our connection to the local Fire Brigade and always pleased to enlighten guests on the local connections - even our wallpaper features local firefighting action! We hope in the future we can welcome you back to enjoy a drink or meal at our venue.

I'd never been here. Goodness what I've missed. The first point to make is that the interior photos don't do it justice. There are spacious, well designed seating areas, not too crowded together. It's spotlessly clean. I visited with an elderly friend and all the staff were lovely; very attentive. The carvery was excellent value and good quality (great, crispy edged roast potatoes). They offer 3 different sizes and I found the standard size almost too large. I didn't have room for dessert but plan to go back soon for coffee and cake. Unlike many places on a Sunday, you are not limited to a roast. Other items are available from the menu. Outdoor as well as indoor seating and a play area within sight of the restaurant for any little ones getting restless. Fortunately for me, although this is a seasonal holiday park, it's open to non residents, so locals, throughout the season. Really can't praise it enough.

We visited tonight after a day out. Service was brilliant and we felt nothing was too much trouble. Food was superb, it was nice to find fresh tasty food. The menu was Italian themed however there was something for the whole family to enjoy, including one fussy teenager. Allergy was taken seriously and I felt confident in the chef. I would highly recommend visiting, it will certainly become a firm favourite for us.

We stayed Highlands End a couple of times last year and used Martin’s Bar a lot for drinks, food and socialising with our visitors to site. We loved the menu and were always able to vary our choices to ring the changes. All this despite the challenges presented by COVID. Some of the reviews lately have been less than complimentary, hence I am writing to tell of our experience. Four of us plus dog visited for dinner earlier this week. We purposely chose a quieter time to eat and had choice of tables inside. Perusing the menu, I was at first disappointed that a few of my favourites from last year were no longer available, however we were all able to find something we liked from the restricted menu. The food arrived hot and delicious. The belly pork was to die for with perfect crispy crackling, soft, creamy, chorizo mash and green beans. The sausage meal looked equally appealing, plump and juicy porkers aboard an island of creamy mash with honey glazed carrots. We followed with pecan pie and ice cream and the caramel apple pie, all good. Throughout, we were treated with courtesy and good humour from all the staff we encountered and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the overall experience. Martin’s are doing an excellent job under what are still difficult circumstances, and we will continue to support them for the rest of our visit. Just go there……. It’s good!

Visited with family on a Saturday evening, good choice of food, service good and food was well presented. I had a burger, which was well cooked and tasty, the others had fish and chips which they all liked. Quite noisy and echoes as has a high roof, tables separated with glass screens and a one way system.

highlands end site is beautiful. First visit to Martins husbands Pizza was ok but nothing special. I had sliced steak which the flavour was good but quality not so good as they used rump, very fatty not much edible meat. Second visit husband had beef madras which was very chewy. I had lasagna which was so overcooked that the whole thing was sloppy and had no substance. So disappointed as this place looks brilliant. We originally went to have fish and chips as part of the new winter menu but sold out by tea time.

Thank you for your feedback - all your points have been shared with the team. I apologise we ran out of a dish you were hoping to enjoy - we are in unusual times and it is very difficult to predict our guest numbers and choices currently and on occasion one dish does prove more popular.... Our lasagne is made by an Italian chef who cooks it to a true Sicilian recipe - it is our best seller but I have shared your feedback. Our rump steak is an 8oz local steak provided by a local butcher - again I will feedback your thoughts as we work very closely with our suppliers - but please if you join us again and feel your steak has no meat on it or a dish is not appetizing please do let us know at the time as that should not be the case at all and we would look to rectify the problem so you can enjoy your meal with us Best wishes Tess

We arrived 10 minutes, after the very late opening time. The staff were not ready and the place was empty. Nobody greeted us, or told us that ordering is only via an app and left us unattended, for 10 minutes. We left with the staff, still getting ready to open but they never even noticed us leave. Would you go back?

Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit. In April we were all trying to make the very restrictive opening and dining outside requirements work for our guests, and it wasn't always easy. We did our best to ensure our ordering messages were readily available for our guests dining outside. As a large venue, with a large seating area it can take us 10 minutes to walk around and see guests who perhaps need extra help with ordering - I apologise if we did not get to you in a timely manner. Your feedback was shared with the team - our service style since your visit has changed several times and we continue to try our hardest to ensure our guests enjoy their time with us. We very much hope we can welcome you again in the future.

Very expensive for a place to take families to eat, check the menu before ordering. Chicken goujons were £2.00 each, same for the fish. £8.00 or £8.50 per portion, lots of batter, not much fish, shame, could be ideal but they do have a captive audience.

Food took an hour to come. Then the quality of food was bad for the price. Veggie burger tasted very cheap and bland despitecosting £16! Childrens Mac and cheese had little flavour with no garlic bread and the dirty fries didn't have proper bacon on just a few sprinkles of meat shreds and over cooked dry onion rings. As for the home made colslaw , it was bland , dry and hard. The dessert menu didn't impress either with small slices of cheesecake at £7 each

We recently stayed at Highlands End and decided to try the on site bar/restaurant. Visited a couple of times. First time one very hot and sunny afternoon for a pint sat outside. Bonus it was happy 'hour' 3pm-6pm! Good choice of real ale and cider. 2 pints for £8.50 so not overpriced like many campsite bars. 2nd visit was the wet Saturday morning for breakfast. Both went for the Dorest breakfast @ £9.95 each and 2 coffees. Staff seemed a bit dis-interested, would rather talk to 'regulars' than serve people waiting to order? Food took an age to some (about 40 minutes) and there was hardly anyone in there? However, it was all freshly cooked, hot (including the plate) and really tasty. Loved the look of the bar/restaurant, with the fire department theme!

We are staying in our motorhome and decided we would eat out at Martins bar on the Saturday night and was looking forward to it as the advert says award winning food. We ordered simple food ham egg and chips and a lasagne the ham egg and chips came and the egg looked like it had been nuked into an inch of its life so we sent it back and asked for a new egg. Then the lasagna came out and it looked like a dollop of something indescribable and completely burnt the flat bread garlic bread was like a piece of cardboard. We asked to return it and to be fair the girl took it away and asked if we would like something else and when we said no she did give us a full refund. From working in the industry I can’t imagine any properly trained chef wanting to send out food that awful. So as for ward winning I’m not sure what the award was but the pigs will be happy with the leftovers - very disappointed Unfortunately, we were so shocked I didn’t think to take photos
