Went for New Years Eve. We were squeezed in with a four legged friend at late notice. Service was fantastic straight away and throughout the evening when they were very busy. We had the fish and the duck. Both were exceptional and I have to...say one of the best Duck dishes I’ve tasted. Was all very well and reasonably priced, and finished off with some brilliant live music. A great way to spend New Years. Thank you!More

After driving past this pub for many years we decided to stop off for a drink and hoping the kitchen was serving food as it was late in the afternoon and most pubs enroute home were closed. Well what can we say other than amazing...! The charm of old inn , the amazing hospitality together with sumptuous dishes and good local beer meant we will most definitely be returning! Support your local pubs and breweries, again Palmers of Bridport do the simple things and make sure guests are happy! Well done to the manager and kitchen staff !More

It's several years since we were last the The George and the atmosphere and food were great then. This visit showed many changes - not least in the menu - but food and service were as good as ever. The menu had a great range...of choices, the prices reasonable and the staff friendly. It wasn't a busy night but quiet is good. We will certainly return.More

Visited here yet again and wasn’t disappointed. We have been coming here for at least 10years pre, during and post COVID. And can honestly say everything is excellent. Food, welcome, atmosphere and venue. It is clean and welcoming and good to be back

Excellent service and food, and Coeliacs well catered for. We booked here for dinner after seeing the good reviews on a Gluten Free website. Exceeded expectation - the staff were welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. The food was delicious and varied...with a great choice and the service was first class. I can't recommend The George highly enough. We will be definitely be returning next time we are in the area!More

What's happened? We made a point to visit this pub on its pizza evening as we had always enjoyed these in the past (previously stayed twice in holiday cottages in Chideock). We were early but prepared to have a drink & wait awhile for pizza...oven to be fired up. Very soon we were told we could order and ready to go (being about 45 minutes earlier than expected) but hey ho we ordered & they arrived very quickly. Well what rubbish? The bases used to be very thin & stone baked, these were like cardboard the toppings were bland & not evenily scattered. £54 later 2 x drinks each, a bowl of olives & 2 poor pizzas we left very disappointed. Money I think could have been spent on a more memorable meal. Sorry won't be returningMore

Dog friendly pub with a really nice atmosphere and great staff. The food is very good and freshly cooked but we felt the pricing on the desserts was a bit adventurous.

We stopped here for and impromptu late lunch/ early dinner. They were able to accommodate us and our dog. The food and drink were reasonably priced and delicious. One small downside. There’s still what I would imagine to be covid signs up. Showing arrows for...a one way system and a please wait here to be seated sign by the door. Being british we followed orders from the signs and I feel these were unnecessary due to the barman having to beckon us over as there was no one else to greet us. As I said only a small thing. Other than that the menu was full of great sounding food and would love to try some more of it one day.More

We were on holiday in Dorset and thought we would try The George Inn for dinner as it had a couple of vegan starters and one main options. Atmosphere and staff seemed pleasant enough. I was very much looking forward to the vegan ravioli in...a maderia sauce but was told after ordering by the landlord that the chef had 'accidentally' spilt some dairy cream in to the vegan sauce so best they could do was use a vegan garlic butter on my ravioli,I said that's fine (but now believe this to be a bit of a fib, dont think it was ever an option),we enjoyed our starters and i then had the only vegan main option on the menu, just a basic tomato sauce pasta with capers, which was ok although huge portion. We decided to go back to The George Inn for our last night, which we now regret, thought I would have two vegan starters, having one as my main as there was no other main vegan option than id had before,i ordered the vegan ravioli again as was delicious and as the landlord promised the night before that they would have made more of the maderia sauce that I missed out on our first visit, this was not to be once again we both ordered the vegan ravioli,to be told that I could only have garlic butter again that the maderia sauce wasn't suitable for me,why was it advertised as a vegan starter!? They also messed up our order, giving me my main that I'd ordered as a starter size, but gave me a huge portion and tried to charge us for a main portion,to say we were disappointed was an understatement. It seems if you are a meat/fish eater you will be fine with plenty of choice but will be a second thought if you want vegan, was told by barmaid that they don't sell much vegan food, how do you know how much you would sell if there isn't options there to choose? Also their 'special's board really isn't special it's pretty poor!More

Welcoming pub for our family with 2 young children (7 and 3), well all enjoyed our food and cleared our plates! Warm welcome from friendly staff and also efficient. Good beer (Palmers on draught) and local gin choice also. I’d personally like to see more...vegetarian options, but overall a great place to eat and would recommend a visit!More
