Stopped here with my husband whilst doing the coastal walk around the island. Very impressed. Quiet homely garden; extremely good outside facilities. We ordered two lots of sandwiches - crab on white, and roasted veg on brown. Both ample quantities, with a superbly flavoured salad and a huge pile of crisps.

A very friendly welcome and a comfortable garden. The Mermaid tea gardens are well worth a visit! Hidden away off the road (signage could be better) and a menu which on first glance appears more expensive than others - but pay the extra and you'll taste the difference. I had the homity pie - didn't even know what I was... More

A perfect place place to spend lunch. The food was freshly prepared and the salads were delicious. We recommend the homity pie for lunch! The service was excellent. A great place to relax after a walk on Portland. Check opening times - Thurs - Sun I think. Will definitely return if in the area.

Huge cream tea. Delicious. Very good service, beautiful location. Bit quirky. Prices slightly higher than average.

Food menu was expensive so we had scones. We wanted hot chocolate but was told they do not do it so we had coffee which was very weak and after one taste we left it. Garden was a delight

Great setting, tucked away and very relaxing. Great food, freshly made to order. Friendly team of staff and owners look after clients very well. Really can't speak highly enough of the Mermaid - and will return when next in town!

Tucked away behind Mermaid House, is this lovely little outdoor gem. Set in the garden at the rear of Mermaid House, this delightful little tea room outdoors serves light lunches and cream teas, tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are both polite and attentive and nothing is too much trouble. If you're planning a visit to Portland on a Thursday,... More

What a lovely place to have afternoon tea, the table sand chairs are comfortable and clean. The cream teas are one not to be beaten, I was even asked if I needed any more clotted cream or jam, with my scone, the service was excellent what a lovely polite young lady , a true asset to your team, well worth... Went here for a cream tea and strawberries and clotted cream which were fantastic and the young girl who served us was very polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend going to pay the mermaid a visit whilst on Portland.
