Country pub, dog friendly. Popular. Parking on site and fields to the back to walk dogs. Family friendly.
Staff go out of their way to make you feel valued. Service with a smile.
Food was the best we’ve eaten and we go out to various...stars.More
What can we say.,,, place looked grubby. Roast was pre- cooked and not re-heated properly . Such a shame as a few years ago the food was delicious.More

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments albeit not what we would like to read. I have checked with the staff on that day and I am confused as to why you felt you needed to leave this review.

Just called in for a quick lunch - a beer and sandwich after lovely walk in nearby woods. As they didn't do sandwiches we had a main meal which was one of the best pub meals we have had. Highly recommended. Will certainly revisit.
A very poor hospitality experience we called in for a drink and we’re put in a cold empty pubic bar when requesting very politely if we could drink in the warmer restaurant where there were a few diners were told a definitely No as it...was set up for eating only. Needless to say we will never be returning there.More
The C&B is well known locally, it’s reputation being based on its excellent food. The chef knows what he/she is doing. The menu is surprisingly extensive with something for everyone and the portions very generous. The wine list provides the standard choice, nothing unusual but...you’d not really expect that in a pub. The wine is however, reasonably priced.
Approval of the decor is a personal preference, so it would be unfair to comment adversely. The owner and his team work very hard and we hope that these efforts will encourage more people to return to improve the atmosphere. We shall be coming back.More
The web-site says “Modern British” but one look at the huge plastic 3 page menu and you’ll see it’s the sort of place where you seek refuge in an honest pie and mash - except when we arrived, we were told there were no more...pies. Damn.
Next best go-to dish was the sirloin steak. How difficult can it be to cook a good steak? Quite difficult, apparently - it was tough and tasteless (with or without peppercorn sauce), and came on a massive platter of chips.
The chicken curry came as a similarly double-sized portion. It tasted like it had been made with sauce from a jar - not unpleasant, just basic and unimaginative.
Would prefer a smaller menu, smaller portions, and a more home made style.
The staff were friendly though.More
Rang to find they were going to close the kitchen early as they had been so quiet. we said we'd be there in 25 mins. no problem... four of us (all adults) and another couple arrived. All seated and attended brilliantly, The starters were very...impressive and incredibly tasty. The mains, large portions, very nicely cooked and presented, vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked... will be returning very soon.... Very impressed....More
Really lovely food, all freshly cooked. Not had a bad meal there & look forward to working my way through the menu.
Good vegetarian selection.
Good portion sizes.
Attentive hosts without being OTT
Hi, although we do not have a separate GF menu most of our dishes can be adapted. Please ensure you make the waiting staff aware of your requirements when ordering so they can liaise with the kitchen. Hope this helps.
