Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely summer evening and we enjoyed a delicious dinner here. We’d been gifted a voucher for a 3 course dinner for two. (Just a little note, as luckily we asked when we arrived… the voucher covers food only, not drinks, so make sure your...food total meets the face value of your voucher) The service was good, mostly friendly young people and a more experienced guy running the show. The pace of service was good, as we hate to be rushed. Our food was delicious. The ‘pistachio goats cheese with beetroot carpaccio and chocolate vinaigrette’ was tasty, but the decorative dark chocolate drops were perhaps a step too far! My vegetarian tart was delicious, if a tad over salted. We had a little peek at the hotel gardens after dinner, very pretty.More

First visit with the other half and, to be fair the food was good. The Chicken Terrine was fresh and clean on the palate, the wagyu burgers were well priced and well cooked (and not overcooked) and the Pistachio Cheesecake was light and refreshing -...so well done chefs. You deserve a 4 out of 5 at least. The 3 star rating is mainly due to the complete lack of ambience about the place and a very uncertain service. Staff were friendly enough but it feels as if no one is in charge and I lost count of how many times the receptionist came through for a "wee chat" with the staff. The other half even noticed staff nibbling food behind the bar. In fact, there seemed to be a lot of staff not connected with the restaurant just "popping in", so much so that when we left the receptionist and, I think, the head waiter were so engaged in conversation that the words "goodbye" were missing... so we sloped off, well fed but a bit bemused. By the way, there were actually 2 guests waiting to check in when we left. And here's a note for any person heading there - when the waiter asks if you want water when you arrive just make sure they mean tap water... Our bottle cost us £4.25!!!More

First visit. Impressive building stands at the end of a long driveway. Bistro is cosy with a log fire. Service was very good and the food was excellent. Only slight disappointing item was the cheesecake which was bit on the solid side but everything else...was well cooked. Surprisingly quiet which was good for us as we weren't rushed out and spent 4 hours at dinner. Would recommend.More

Young inexperienced staff. Came to take order before all the party had arrived. Removed glass of wine when clearly it was not finished. Coffee bitter and cold. Told the replacement was the best they could do (young waitress) and if not satisfied to speak to...the manager who we didn’t see all night. No heating on, not even a coal fire. Sat with coats on! No atmosphere whatsoever!More

Santa experience was such a disappointment. Literally got out the car, walked past some candy canes and a few lights (woodland experience?!) sat in the “cafe” area. Yes the girls were dressed as elves and there was a tree, straw and some kind of booth...but that was it! No magical Christmas experience or atmosphere at all. Santa was behind a curtain in the corner of the room and although lovely he shouldn’t have been Santa. Far too young and his beard and hat were falling off. Toy was a crappy cheap soft toy, for £15 this was a total rip off. Such a lovely setting that could have been great but just done so cheaplyMore

We had a good business lunch. Staff were brilliant and our sandwiches were tasty and filling. Covid safe too with hand sanitiser and temperature check when we arrived. Lovely old building with plenty of parking outside.

Very pleasant evening meal in a nice setting I was a little surprised that the menu wasn't more expansive but there's a reasonable selection at decent prices We shared a very good terrine that was weakened by an attempt to create fancy toast when something...simpler, such as oatcakes, would have done I had the roast lamb, a decent portion but quite fatty. And there was also a nice fish and chips. It was all very nice and whilst there were errors they were rectified quickly. Worth a visit but I'll wait for a while before returning in the hope the menu changesMore

2nd year in row, very close to where we live, lovely house and grounds but the Santa's grotto really needs more effort for the money you pay. Once seated, asked if we wanted refreshments before seeing santa which we did, they had no snacks for kids...on menu, only large chocolate muffins... Not for 2 and 3 year old. Only had our coffees arrive at table and told our turn for Santa and not coming back to table after. Santa is lovely but kids present is very cheap. People dressed up as elves but that's it, no other effort put in to add magic to experience which could so easily be done.More

Beautiful setting in private estate where the welcome from Chantelle was mind blowing! Never before have I been so welcomed on arrival in any hotel. What a gem she is! Our lunch was delicious and served by the outstanding Isabella whose expertise and manner shone...throughout. The fish was lovely but the homemade sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever tasted. Can't wait to go back. Next time we will stay in one of their superb suites and indulge in afternoon tea which looked double yummy. Memories are made of experiences like this. I can still taste the sticky toffee pudding..mmmmmMore

My husband and I had lunch here and it was excellent. All food was delicious and we finished everything put down in front of us. The red cabbage slaw wasn’t to my taste but that is just a personal comment. The serving staff were great,...very attentive but unobtrusive. The building itself is beautiful, so full of history, and we hope to return for afternoon tea soon. Would recommend to anyoneMore

Part of Carberry Tower hotel, the restaurant serves Scottish / international fare. Consistently good during our stay at the hotel, friendly, good house wine by the glass.

Went here with itison voucher which meant we were on a reduced menu. Still a reasonable choice. We had prawn cocktail/thai fishcakes to start followed by the haddock and chips. The food was very tasty really enjoyed our fish Service, the staff were very pleasant...and friendly however a bit it and miss as initially they forgot to give us a menu and then I asked for a cup of tea when I finished my meal it never came so after waiting quite a while we paid our bill and left. Still we enjoyed our meal in a beautiful settingMore

As customers presenting an Itison voucher we felt treated as second class citizens. We were given a very limited lunch menu, different from the one posted on the restaurant website or the link provided within the Itison advert. It was very obvious that dishes were...made down to a price. Our starters were poor; the main courses were OK. The service was fine. Overall it was a disappointing experience and we will never return to this restaurant.More
