Small unique Scottish Restaurant tucked away just off the main street in Anstruther. A historic little restaurant in the heart of the East Neuk. Was once used as a store by fishermen for there fishing nets. And also used as a smokehouse and cooperage. It was converted into a Restaurant over 40 years ago, and is now owned by local Chef Billy Boyter and his family. The Restaurant also has a small bar selling locally produced beer and a good selection of Scottish Gins and Whiskies.

First thing to say is this is a very good restaurant. I cannot overstate the quality of the cooking, presentation, service and overall ambience of The Cellar. The welcome when we arrived, with Patricia instantly creating a very relaxed atmosphere, continued throughout the evening. Our main server, Rebecca, very ably provided us with each course in a friendly, quiet and unobtrusive manner, clearly explaining each dish as we went along. At this point I have to say this is 100% Michelin star quality but may I also say it comes without some of the pretensions that can accompany this status. This is a chef who truly understands how to extract every ounce of flavour from a very interesting selection of ingredients. Every course is a treat to the senses. The flavours and textures just keep coming - each course an absolute delight. You will struggle to pick one star dish, they are all sublime. This was a truly memorable meal, served in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and I would urge anyone to travel to experience it (our own journey was a round trip of 276 miles!) To all at the Cellar we thank you for a most enjoyable evening and we will definitely see you again.

This was our 4th visit whilst holidaying on the beautiful East Coast of Scotland......... possibly the best time yet, the food was absolutely outstanding, service as always was immaculate with very knowledgable and pleasant servers and the wine pairing is top notch, such good value both for the tasting menu lunch and the excellent wines!
The aged Parmesan and Ox Tongue dish is absolutely outstanding! Husband always wishes for a big soup bowl full of it! All courses cooked to absolute perfection and the venison on this occasion was sublime, meat beautifully pink with amazing walnut and black pudding purées! Crispy kale, just melted! Heritage potatoes, unique and beautifully presented with the outstanding flavours of the Arbroath smokie! As good as it gets!
Decor is relaxed and comfortable with absolutely no rush whatsoever.........
Supplementary cheese course was excellent paired with a gorgeous, deeply delicious red wine. The hay custard with compressed apple and rhubarb granita also stood out as very refreshing and delicious.
Such good value for excellent service, stunning food and wines.
We’ll be back............

Our sons gave us a Christmas gift of a voucher for this establishment and we could not have had a better present. The lunch menu is a tasting selection and you can look at the menu before starting or keep it as a surprise and find out as the dishes are brought out. We chose the latter. All the courses were beautifully prepared, presented and wonderfully tasty. There were some things that we would probably not have chosen if an a la carte option was available but the standard of cooking made them all delicious and we certainly did not feel it detracted from our experience. There is a good wine list and we like our wine but there is no sommelier and for customers with limited knowledge a little more information on the wine list could be helpful.
The extra cheese course was also a good selection and I enjoyed it very much.
The staff are a credit to the restaurant, attentive when needed and knowledgeable about the food. The ambience very relaxed in a tastefully decorated surround.
We will be back again as everything was just to our liking and quite outstanding.

Even as frequent visitors to the area, it has taken literally years to get a booking at this restaurant. It was worth the wait! The dining room is cosy, but with plenty of space. The staff are lovely. Not stuffy. The tasting menu is excellent and creative. It’s worth going with the wine flight.

Visited this reatuarant, because we were given a voucher as a birthday gift from family who are aware we like a bit of fine dininng!!
It really was a treat to eat here.
The tasting menu was fabulous,
and the girls serving the dishes were on the ball and informative. We did not have the wine, but a gentleman next to us was doing the wine pairing and the staff handled the questions that he was putting towards them very well!!
Its also a nice cosy atmosphere.
We would reccomend the cellar to our friends and family.

My wife and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary at the Cellar and not only was the service absolutely brilliant but the food was the best we've ever tasted. The dish of the night for us was the Ox Tongue, Aged Parmesan, Tamato and Summer Truffle. The staff are very friendly, professional and explain each dish as they're served. We cannot wait to go back and would certainly recommend The Cellar to anyone looking for a great night of food and wine.

Menu is a fixed price tasting menu @ £80 pp for 7 courses. Booking in advance is essential.
Each course was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The flavours were simply superb. The menu has a strong Scottish theme with mostly local ingredients being used.
Service was extremely good with food served at nice intervals.
Would absolutely recommend.

We were really excited to manage to get a cancellation for lunch this week & we certainly weren’t disappointed. From arrival to departure we were extremely well looked after by the front of house staff & their knowledge, enthusiasm & pride when explaining the dishes was apparent. The food was amazing & the combination of ingredients & flavours were sublime. Every single mouthful was a delight & the paired wines were a definite match & some not what we would have picked. Even the coffee & sweet accompaniments were terrific. We’ll be back

Visited here on Saturday night with friends for one of their birthdays.
From the moment we entered the restaurant we were looked after by the most amazing and knowledgeable front of house staff . Wine recommendations were superb. So much so we had 3 bottles !
The food is on a different level to anything we’ve experienced before . Course after course we were blown away by the taste, texture and freshness from every dish, thanks to the chef/owner who goes out foraging for the freshest of ingredients to compliment each of the courses. This is fine dining at its very best and hopefully an experience we will repeat in the not so distant future .

Fabulous evening. We booked early in the year to avoid disappointment as there are only a few tables. This is our 3rd visit to the Cellar. The food is beautifully cooked using seasonal ingredients. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Great evening, we will return.

We are not the easiest people to cater for given a number of diartiary allergies. These were pre-advised and we were delighted that a menu had been designed to ensure all our requirements were met. The standard and presentation of the food was first class, as was the service which was excellent from the moment we walked into the restaurant.
Good selection of wines but most people seemed to be taking advantage of the pairing wines.
All in all this was a wonderful experience and I am sure it will not be too long before we have another visit. Highly recommended

The East Nuek is a beautiful place and in The Cellar they have a delightfully understated Michelin star restaurant. We visited for my wifes birthday and both the service and food were top notch. The tasting menu was a trip around the local areas gastronomy and didnt fail to deliver on flavour. Overall a special dinner for my wifes birthday.

I returned to this restaurant with friends who were very keen to try this place following my rave reviews last time. It did not disappoint. We came for lunch with the wine pairings. Each course is beautifully presented with in-depth explanation of the food and the accompanying wine. I look forward to the new menu in the Spring.

Obviously comparing this to other one starred restaurants and not just other restaurants.
The two starters which were a beef tartare tart and a lobster donut were delicious. The ox cheek was too cheesy for me, could hardly taste the meat due to the strength of the Parmesan and a corner of mine was burnt. The monkfish was lovely and was probably my favourite course. The lamb was also cooked perfectly but my barbecued carrot with it was very undercooked, could hardly get my knife through it.
Desserts were fantastic, a rhubarb tuen a chocolate dish with ice cream cream follows by three nice sweeties.
Service was fine and friendly, although I did end up having to fill up my wine more than once which you don’t expect at a place like this.
I’m also 6’3 and I painfully hit my head on the top of the door frame en route to the toilets, never seen any ‘mind your head’ signs, so if you’re my height or taller be aware.
It was probably the cheapest Michelin I’ve e ever dined in, £287 for two tasting menus, two bottles of wine and a gin and tonic and juices which isn’t too bad. But there is certainly better 1 Michelin’s in Scotland, so I don’t expect we will return.

Travelled from inverness to sample the Michelin rated cellar. Amazing lunch, amazing service, amazing venue. We had the tasting menu "obviously " with wine pairing and I couldn't fault anything. Maybe another fishy course or surf n turf that amazing venison dish as the venue is coastal and one would expect more fish, but honestly was amazing. Well done chef and the two lovely lasses oot front xx
