Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food was yummy. We enjoyed the afternoon tea. The cost is more than fair as compared to other tea services that easily charge double. You get quality food and you can taste the freshness. The service is wonderful and the staff seem to genuinely...like being there.More

So disappointed in the service we received after stopping off for lunch on a Saturday. Initially we were shown to a table which was nice and efficient, but sadly after that it went downhill rapidly. Firstly three other ( obviously Local) families and couples who...had arrived after us were served and their orders taken. Ok so have patience and wait, but not for another 25 minutes. On not waiting any longer went to the counter and told the waiting personnel that we were leaving and the reason why, and the reaction a shrug of the shoulders and a smirk on his face, not exactly the response I had been expecting. We continued the discussion which going by the way the conversation was going was not going to prove fruitful. The result was all the staff young and old did not seem to care which is very disappointing. On the way out one young lad told me that we would now be served as a matter of Priority, sorry too late. The lack of anyone senior taking control and overseeing the delivery of orders being taken and delivered in a timely fashion was none existent. Like I said have been on multiple occasions and all has been first class, but sadly will not be returning. Many thanks for the service and excellent food on all our previous visits, will now have to look for somewhere else.More

Had a cheese board and charcuterie board- £31.95 for two. Overpriced and mediocre. Very stale bread- so hard someone had heated it a little to improve it. Certainly wasn't left from the previous day. There on Wednesday and cafe is closed Monday/Tuesday. Had it been...left from the weekend! I mentioned this to staff and waitress was very offhand. Mumbled something incoherent about getting the wrong bread. I asked her to bring us more oatcakes to replace bread as there were only two on the cheese board. She did but no real apology. Service was dreadful - waited ages to have our order taken and was on the point of leaving when someone came to our table. When I went to pay the bill she asked if I would like to add a tip on my card. I declined. Sad to see my native country still suffers from poor service and inhospitality . Wouldn't visit there again. But my faith was restored when we went for coffee and cake in a coffee shop-Greenacres- in Fochabers. Pleasant young woman serving and great service. And yes I did leave a tipMore

Visited the Walled Garden Cafe after seeing some excellent reviews on line. Menu did look very enticing but service was non-existent! Came in and picked up menus, told staff we were outside, ‘no problem’ they said. We waited 15 mins. Came back inside and said...could we place an order please, staff said they would be ‘two seconds’ so went back outside. 10 minutes later, we gave up and went to The Quaich in town. Would have been one star but we did buy some fresh fruit from the stall on the way out which was delicious. Highly recommend that bit!More

We booked afternoon tea for a friends birthday. Unfortunately she doesn’t like mayo, so we mentioned that at booking. When we arrived we were shown straight to our table and we ordered drinks. The afternoon tea arrived & it looked lovely. But because we had...said no mayo for my friend, both sets of sandwiches came with no mayo. Although the bread was lovely, we had 2 lots of cheese sandwiches, which was disappointing as there are lots of different sandwiches that can be made without mayo, beef & horseradish, smoked salmon & cream cheese, chicken. The other items were a bite size quiche, sausage roll & pigs in blankets, along with the mini cakes & scones. Please note that if you go for afternoon tea, go early if you want to look around the shop, as we came out at 4pm & sadly the shop was already closed.? So we had to take the veg back into the cafe to be able to pay for it.More

5 members of staff behind the bar, absolutely a free for all to who gets processed first, que ignored members of staff in willing to enforce order. You will pay for a premium service and get none in return. Outside seating is a free for...all no real way of order to a seat as multiple people might claim and you don't know when you will get serviced. I have been to this venue a lot and they have always struggled with competent staff but not numbers, I believe if they had a member of staff per person they will still be no better. Management should be held accountable. Gardens are nice but works out to be an expensive short walk around a half used garden. I'd would still recommend a visit but be prepared to be let down by staff and if they venue could charge for breathing the air with in the confines then they would. The shop is ridicules pricing.More

The food was nice but unfortunately they were in a real muddle with the service. The staff were pleasant but we had to wait ages to order puddings and coffees despite asking three or four times and then only half the order arrived so I...had to chase them again. It got quite awkward in the end. I appreciate that they may have been short staffed but they didn’t seem to have any system for tracking orders and ensuring that they were completed.More

Ordered a chicken pesto salad for £15.95. If you expect more than basic lettuce, pale orange salad tomatoes, and cucumber in a salad, you will be disappointed. The chicken was big chunks of cold, dry chicken breast with shop bought pesto on it with a...bit of cole slaw. It was an effort to get through it. Really bland and disappointing. Worst salad I have even been served in a restaurant, I'm surprised a chef would think it is acceptable. I wouldn't order it again. Tip for them: potato salad, cous cous, olives, nice cherry tomatoes, decent salad leaves, beetroot, shredded chicken that is chewable would all improve this offering and make it worth the money. Nobody enjoys eating salad the way you serve it currently.More

Table booked for five adults for lunch today. Restaurant was very quiet when we arrived as it was early. We were given menus and then waited quite a while before our order was taken. After some time a waiter came and asked us to confirm...the order. Drinks arrived and there was one missing. The food arrived and it was ok but nothing special. I had quiche and salad. Suffice to say there was enough salad to feed the five of us and one piece of quiche on the top of it. I only managed to eat half of the salad so that was a lot of waste. We then sat for ages waiting for the plates to be cleared - so long in fact that I started stacking them myself. At that point a waiter appeared and removed them. We then waited to see if anyone offered us dessert - no. My sister-in-law got up and found a menu and we ordered 3 ice creams and 2 espresso brownies. The ice cream came in a tiny dish - although I'm told it was nice enough. As for the brownies - I have never come across such a solid brownie. At no point did anyone come and ask if everything was ok with our meal. The staff all looked about 16yrs old. I'm sure they were doing their best but there didn't appear to be an experienced member of staff to keep things flowing. All in all, a disappointing experience.More

I have visited this place several times to use the cafe and walk around the gardens. I have given it 4 stars as I love the concept but really think a few changes could be made that would really make it so much better. The...cafe used to have a much more extensive menu, but now it seems to be just salads and sandwiches. With the produce grown in the garden, the menu could be much more extensive and before lockdown, it certainly was. I ordered the cheese ploughmans, which consisted of 4 small pieces of cheese, 2 oatcakes and some olives and a chutney and was priced at £17.99. I felt ripped off to be honest as you could not call it a ploughmans and I felt the price was extortionate for what I received. Moving onto the gardens. These are lovely and well kept, but again overpriced at £9 for an adult and £4.50 for a child. The child’s price was even more inflated considering all of the sand seemed to have been washed away by weather and not been replaced as the area is basically a giant sand pit with next to no sand. I do feel that to keep the locals onboard and not just overprice the facility based on a one time visit from tourists, that if you did a reduced price offer for the garden if you eat in the cafe, this would provide a much better value for money experience. Like I said, I have visited several times, and would use the venue more often if better priced.More
