Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The fresh, well-prepared, and super tasty food was easily matched by the professional, friendly and attentive service. The freshly baked bread with pumpkin seed-infused olive oil was a surprise stoundout and the the risotto with wild garlic and peas was mouth-watering! You don’t need to...be staying at the Links House @ Royal Dornoch to enjoy a standout meal but definitely make reservations. Many thanks to the staff.More

Well, probably the nicest meal Ive had in a long long time. Also, the most expensive. I expect to pya for quality but this was extortionate. Place is beautiful and service impeccable. We had 4 gins and 2 tonic waters. A bottle of red (£57)...& 2 espresso martinis 6 oysters 2 fillet steaks with chips and broccoli 2 deserts - carrot cake and chocolate mousse. Total bill £315 - Im used to London prices but most I've paid for similar (at Zedel's Leicester Square) & that was £220More

This is definitely my favourite place to eat in Dornoch, serving the best food whether Afternoon Tea or Dinner. Was today treated to an outstanding afternoon tea. A busy service, but the staff were still attentive on all levels, in a completely calm and unflustered...manner. The food was delicious and so well presented. A variety of tastes for the palate. as favourite - possibly the wee Salmon fish cake on brioche with slaw. The scone too - so light and delicate with a superb flavour. Thank you to all the staff at Mara/Links House for a truly enjoyable experience. We look forward to coming back again soonMore

Had a wonderful afternoon tea, lots of lovely different flavours and treats. Not just your usual sandwiches and Victoria sponge. Staff were attentive without being intrusive and very helpful. Stunning surroundings and great experience all round.

Our 4th time at Links House, the previous 3 visits were fantastic but we were all really disappointed with the service we received on this visit. We all had the 4 course menu and wine pairing, the food was to a high standard but the...service was poor. Previously we were told what each course was and the sommelier would tell us about the wine pairing we were having, maybe as it’s still early in the season but we all left feeling disappointed with the service we received.More

Thi's restaurant is surely a contender for a Michelin star. I cannot fault any part of the meal we enjoyed and will remember fondly for a long time. Superb, Mara, well be back.

We had the 4 course menu and I think it was one of the best meals I've had anywhere. Locally sourced produce beautifully presented and very filling. We did the matching wine parings as well, also excellent, maybe glasses a bit too large judging by...my head the next day. I didn't think any of the courses we had were overly complicated or artistic, there was no foam in site, no smoke of rosemary under a bell jar and I've seen both before. Just quality produce cooked to perfection. I certainly didn't leave hungry either. Staff were friendly and informative, made us feel welcome. I guess some folk may find friendly people off putting? It is fine dining as you would find in many places across the globe, portion size, prices and experience reflect that. It may not be for everyone, but these two British people enjoyed it immensely.More

This restaurant operates with a level of presumption which stretches credulity; their style of decor and service might suit many foreign guests but most Brits may find it touches on vulgarity. On the positive side, the staff are invariably helpful and welcoming, even though they...appear to have been trained in the art of obsequiousness. The food is delicious and carefully cooked, even if the portions are modest and the prices eye-watering. May the Lord preserve us from young chefs, anxious to make a name for themselves; they tend to offer dishes with presentations more akin to an art installation than a meal, invariably as minute portions of a bizarre concoction on an immense plate. One option stated it contained Dill - it did, but as a frond no bigger than a finger nail. If you like great tasting food in very small portions served by fawning staff and regardless of cost, this is the place for you. As someone once said, “people who like this sort of thing will find it just the sort of thing they like.”More

This was a surprise - didn't expect such a high dining experience or to find that the nearby gold course was one of top 5 in World (and I am not a golfer). Staying in the area, little is made of this excellent restaurant and...small hotel. Staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable, food locally sourced and amazing. Expensive meal, but worth it!More

This is probably the fanciest dining experience in Dornoch. The restaurant is truly beautiful. The service was top-notch, and the food matched the atmosphere. Beautifully presented and delicious too. A fantastic restaurant with a fantastic team. Food was simple, but excellent & the wine list is very impressive. Enjoying a post dinner whiskey in the Library was a great touch. Highly recommend.
