We ate here the evening before attending a Wedding at Cornhill Castle ....... the service was good and the restaurant had a lovely ambience. Whilst the food we ordered was really lovely, the beef in my dish was very undercooked, which was hugely disappointing as it was a lovely rendang dish and the sauce was immense!! The manager immediately removed the cost from our bill and had also tried the dish himself and agreed it should not have been served as had not been cooked for long enough. I honestly cannot complain though about the service etc as these things do happen in restaurants and it is how the management then deal with the situation that is important and he handled it all perfectly. I would happily dine in here again, my husbands meal was beautiful :)

We had friends driving up from the south on Boxing Day and planned to meet them for dinner as they passed by en route north. On discovering that our chosen restaurant (chosen based on proximity to the motorway) had just closed for good the week before I phoned around all restaurants, bars & hotels in the area close to the M74 to find that none were serving dinner on Boxing Day night, until that is, I got to Biggar and the Crown Hotel. Our friends were running late & so not due to arrive until 9.00pm and the kitchen closes at 9.00, so we ordered in advance for our table of 9 people. We arrived shortly after 9.00pm to a very warm welcome and our food was served piping hot & freshly cooked in reasonable time by a team of young, well trained and very friendly staff. Clearly we were the last in & were most likely keeping them back but they gave no sign of hurrying us along whatsoever. They even served us pud & coffee. The food was good quality pub grub from a diverse menu and absolutely hit the spot, washed down with an excellent range of local craft beers (for the non-drivers) or coffee in a very attractive warm & welcoming setting. What more could you possibly want? Thank you Crown Hotel & your excellent staff for a very enjoyable evening. We will most definitely be back.

Myself and my husband visited here for dinner on a Wednesday night in November. Booked a table and I would strongly recommend as it was busy! The pub restaurant is very tastefully decorated and felt very homely and cosy. The menu is so fast you will be spoilt for choice. Very quick and efficient service throughout. Nothing was too much trouble! My husband had the fillet steak and I had a chicken dish. Both meals were nicely presented, piping hot and absolutely delicious! Overall our bill was approx £65.00 for 2 mains, 1 dessert and 3 drinks. We felt it was well worth the money based on the excellent service and quality of ingredients. I would highly recommend visiting this place!!

Fantastic breakfast this morning! The Crown is now doing breakfasts until 12 and so we went along to try it this morning. It was fantastic. We each had smashed avocado on toast with poached eggs and smoked salmon. Delicious. We couldn’t decide on this, or the rather fancy cheesy toast so split one of these as well. There was tonnes of food so we probably didn’t need it, but it was also delicious. Lovely way to spend a autumnal morning next to an open fire with hot coffee, wifi and lovely food. Highly recommended and felt like normality was on its way back..... Well done Crown.

The team at the Crown were amazing in the way they complied with regulations during Covid restrictions. They somehow still managed to create a relaxed friendly atmosphere where we could enjoy a meal and feel safe. We had a great takeaway tonight with hot, tasty food. All that was missing were their cheery faces. Please support this business. You won’t be disappointed!

The Crown is located in the middle of Biggar’s wide High Street so there is parking in the vicinity if you‘re lucky. There has apparently been an inn on the site since 1650 but it’s not known if Oliver Cromwell stopped off for refreshments during his invasion of Scotland that year. The frontage still has a traditional look and the outer walls, built to last, are thick enough to curb many a mobile phone signal, although perhaps not a marauding army. It has been refurbished many times since these days but the interior retains a traditional look - beams on the ceiling, exposed stone walls in some areas and tartan carpet! Musical instruments on display are sometimes brought into action by locals who know how to play them so you might get a treat if you’re there at the right time. There is a large focus on food and knowing this we booked a table for three adults and two children for a birthday lunch. We were seated in the bar area but given a choice I would select one of the dining areas to the rear of the property for meals, especially with children. The menu is sizeable so you are likely to find something to your taste which includes mains dishes of fish, beef, chicken, etc, a variety of burgers and steaks, pizzas, tapas and a selection of vegan dishes. There is a Kids Menu. Prices are typical for bistro style food as opposed to pub grub. We selected mains of Chicken Balmoral (£16.99), Chicken Fajitas (£15.99) and Featherblade of Beef (£19.99) for the adults and the children had Macaroni Cheese (£4.99) and Chicken Nuggets (£4.99). We did have to wait quite a while for the food to be produced and the children in particular were getting to the fidgety stage however thankfully it was worth the wait. On the plus side the sauce with the Balmoral Chicken was not overly peppered and the chicken was lovely and moist, the Featherblade of Beef was met with approval and the Chicken Fajitas were sizzling on arrival. On the downside my wife thought the tortillas/wraps were a bit large to handle as was the “dish” it was served with - something akin to an old school desk top! The children enjoyed their dishes. With a drink added for each of us the bill was just under £80. On the subject of drinks, there is usually a selection of real ales and the Gin selection is designed to provide choice. Toilets are compact and functional. Staff were mannerly and obliging in our experience. The pub has a beer garden at the rear of the property if the weather is favourable to sit outside and there are a few tables at the front of the building too if you want to do some people watching and admire the High Street.

We moved to the area Three Years ago and have continuously chose the Crown in Biggar for eating out and family celebrations etc.as they have excellent Food with a warm atmosphere and great staff. The Chef is very creative with their Specials and The Carvery on a Sunday is outstanding both in quality and price. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Another superb dining experience at the Crown The best Sunday roast you will find anywhere All 5 meats can be ordered along with a vast range of vegetables and if you want any more of anything including all the meats makes this a brilliant deal. All the food is top quality (no rubbish) The service and safety measures the management have put in place cannot be improved upon and the staff are very efficient and friendly. I would advise anyone going for Sunday carvery to book in advance.

Travelling back from a morning at Edinburgh Hospital, was a tad peckish and decided to stop for a bite. So glad we went to the Crown Inn. Staff was really friendly from the get-go, felt like they really enjoyed what they were doing. I had a crown prawn cocktail salad which was served in a tortilla bowl, absolutely delicious, whoever dreamt up this delight is a genius. My other half had fish and chips and he loved it, hardly uttered a word during the meal which was bliss considering he had talked my ears off all the way to Edinburgh and back. The atmosphere was great, loved listening to the staff banter with one another, one particular topic was the Borsch soup, I contemplated counting the amount of times the word Borsch was said, I did wonder if they just liked the sound of the way it rolled, Scottish accent and a rolling R, very Sean Connerish, anyway I digress…so I didn’t count, I just enjoyed my meal, the atmosphere and the silence from my partner…like I said bliss. I would highly recommend anyone passing Biggar to drop in to the crown if your tummy is rumbling and enjoy. To sum up, Pure dead brilliant!

It is amazing how just one person can bring down a whole establishment. We travel to Perthshire 2 or 3 times per year and always stop at the crown on the way and on the return, we have done this for many years, it is part of our trip. We have always received a warm welcome and lovely food until the 7th October. It was lunch time and when we arrived there was a couple in front of us, they were approached by a very moody and stern person, no welcome, no smile, no hello, just the following statements "Have you booked a table?" Name" "Telephone number" Follow me. My wife turned to me and said "Lets go, I'm not giving him my money" He returned and started the same statement with us in the same huffy, stern and arrogant manner to which I replied "Is there a problem" he obviously realised I was not amused and tried to change his game.....too late pal. Thankfully it went from terrible to fantastic and we were greeted by the very smiley, happy and welcoming Donna, how she can be so upbeat and wonderful when working with the misery guy at the door is beyond me. She completely turned the situation around and restored our faith in the crown, the food was piping hot and delicious so well done to the kitchen. All in all a very mixed review, we will return on our next holiday, hopefully Donna will be at the door and the misery guy will be pot washing where he belongs.

Visited today (20th Feb) after being recommended by friends. Must say overall we left pretty disappointed. A mix up with drinks and for the price paid, portions of the carvery were very small compared to other places we have eaten. Although on a positive note what was given on the plates was very tasty indeed. There was a lack of atmosphere despite it being extremely busy. Plenty of staff on the floor, whom were all very nice to speak to but the service was extremely slow to the point of frustrating.....and on that basis don't think we personally would return.

Decided to pop in for lunch to our favourite local today. As always a great welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, log fire burning away. Today I opted for a fish finder sandwich..tasty little fish goujons on salad leaves in fresh soft brown bread, creamy coleslaw and a nicely dressed wee side salad. My partner opted for the roast chicken and bacon sandwich, and we shared a portion of their fantastic chunky chips. Washed down with a delicious pint of Abbot ale. Excellent value, dog friendly, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Just good honest pub grub served in a welcoming and friendly traditional pub.

Lovely warm welcome from bar and waiting staff. Sunday carvery best we’ve ever had I had Turkey which was juicy moist and full of flavour. Plus beef which was cooked to perfection. Hubby had pork Turkey and beef. All excellent. Veg was superb and fresh. Had seconds of roasties and carrots. Gravy was properly made not out of a packet No room for puds. We will be back !!! Can’t recommend enough. Everything coming out the kitchen looked scrummy and although very busy felt spoiled. Suggest booking as very popular zzzz. Now to sleep it off :-))

Had lunch today at the crown. Fantastic menu. The food was fantastic and the service was fast and very friendly. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent meal. Portions were great. We were also sitting next to the kitchen and could see all the food coming out and all of it looked amazing. Salt and chilli wings and a goats cheese and black pudding stack, which was awesome, to start. Chicken Balmoral and a steak for main both served with twice cooked chips and a nicely dressed salad, delicious!!! Will definitely be back next time I'm in biggar.

I’m writing this behalf of my gran and late grandad, Greta and Jim, who were delighted to have a meal delivered to The Bield sheltered housing in Biggar for Christmas dinner earlier this week. The food was outstanding, and our whole family are so grateful for the restaurant delivering such a fabulous meal and serving it up to everyone there. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity and my gran is so, so appreciative. We’re so lucky to have such a community minded business right on our high street.
