We have often enjoyed meals at the Elph and were confident enough to invite friends to join us for a meal knowing that normally the food is totally reliable. Unfortunately our meal was not up to scratch on this occasion. Perhaps the chef has changed or it was his night off---whatever- you let us down this time and we were... More

We were staying in the hotel so took advantage of eating in-house. Good menu and the range of vegetarian options was one of the best we have seen in a country hotel. Food was good value and well cooked.

My wife and I had not booked for a meal and as it was the weekend most of the other restaurants were full. However we were quickly accommodated in the large upstairs dining room. Service was quick and efficient with a wide choice of starters and main courses.

Highly recommended. A quaint and warm pub with an amazingly extensive menu. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the chef even made a vegetarian lasagne which wasn't on the menu! Great, traditional surroundings and log fire. Good choice of drinks too. Already booked for the next visit!

Ordered Chicken Fajitas - very tasty, good size portion. Steak and ale pie, excellent as usual. Warm welcome and good service. We'll definitely be back.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch and welcome and service was very warm. That said, food did not live up to price and was overall disappointing. Perhaps not surprising given the vast menu on offer and which cannot possibly all be provided to anticipated high standards. Roast Lamb was in the main bits rather than slices, potatoes unimaginative with skins on... More

Stopped off in Biggar returning from Edinburgh and was famished! Managed to get a table for two... more or less fully booked which is always a good sign. Tried Cullen skink for starters, a fish based soup... OMG delicious. Pasta for main which came with 2 breaded chicken fillets. Surprising but good. Pleasant happy staff and a decent price. Would...
