We've had a couple of recent visits to The Barony, one to utilise a gift voucher and the other to have a meal at Hogmanay prior to attending the local traditional bonfire. The voucher was for Sunday Lunch which turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon. There was no restrictions on our choice from the menu, we had three courses and the package also included a bottle of house wine, coffee and a liqueur. For starters we had Bacon, Black Pudding & Potato Salad and a Goats Cheese & Red Onion Tart, followed by mains of Fillet of Beef Strips in a Drambuie Cream Sauce and Roast Beef with saute potatoes & Yorkshire Pudding. To finish we had Caramelised Oranges (which was a bit disappointing) and Sticky Ginger Pudding. Overall we were very happy with this gift idea and would encourage it ;-) Generally there is a 2 course meal for £16.95 or a 3 course meal for £23.95, with the odd supplement for some dishes and this was the case at Hogmanay. Booking is recommended at weekends and certainly for this occasion this was also the case since we saw a few people politely turned away having taken a chance of just turning up on spec. Service was condensed into a deadline for closure at 9pm to coincide with local celebrations and with the upstairs function room and the downstairs restaurant full it was almost inevitable that something would perhaps "give". Fortunately we did obtain some bread to keep us going pending our delayed order being taken and the starter arriving. However our initial concerns about having to resort to a takeaway dessert proved unfounded as matters progressed smoothly after starters arrived and it was business as usual thereafter. Lovely food and with appropriate apologies for the delay, very pleasant service. Starters of Bacon, Black Pudding & Potato Salad for my wife (again) and this time around I had the Leek, Stilton & Walnut Tartlet - delicious. We both had the Braised Lamb Shank for mains which was so tender it needed little effort to fall from the bone and we finished with Christmas Pudding & Brandy Sauce and a Raspberry & White Chocolate Cheesecake. A bottle of the (house) Peruvian Sauvignon Blanc (£19.95) was almost gone before the main course arrived thanks to the delay however we supplemented this with a couple of glasses of the same (£4.25) to keep us going - any excuse! I had a liqueur and my wife a coffee to round off the meal in good time to collect our bill of £84 before joining the torchlight procession passing the restaurant. Despite the hiccup in the most recent visit it didn't impact on our enjoyment of the night. Toilets were well maintained notwithstanding heavier than usual traffic!

We visited for lunch and enjoyed everything- a light and well decorated room, a welcoming and friendly waitress who handled the corona registration without fuss and a wonderful meal. The warm black pudding starter was a delight. It looked enormous but was carefully judged. The ox tail was rendered down to a sticky screw on a bed of mashed potato finished me - no room for a desert! All this for less than £20 A similar meal in London, where we live, would have been double the price. The burghers of Biggar don’t know how lucky they are. Visit!

The waitress was really pleasant and polite. Had the Thursday night 2 steaks and a bottle of wine offer. The steaks were cooked as requested and beautifully tender, everything was fresh and tasty. Would highly recommend!

Had our first dinner at The Barony and was really disappointed. We were booked for 6.30 pm on a Saturday night well in advance and we were put upstairs as the waitress said it was busy. To get upstairs you have to go outside to go up stairs to what’s like a converted flat. The decor is like walking into IKEA - all black and white with nasty open book shelves with poor taste ornaments on them. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was very much shop bought and presented on a plate. Couldn’t believe the frozen veg! A butterflied chicken breast in a tasteless Diane sauce could have been from a jar! Really surprised that this standard of restaurant is frequented in Biggar. Won’t be back I’m afraid as I can cook better than that myself and wouldn’t buy ready made food myself to eat!!

We decided to treat ourselves last Saturday night so ordered a 3 course meal from The Barony and got dressed up, set up our lovely dining room and sat down to a really excellent meal! Everything was as if it was straight out the kitchen and the veg were wonderful. They even had the pastry topping for the fish pie in a separate paper bag to keep it crispy. Great food at a very reasonable price! We’ll be back fir more! 👍😁

Biggar may be a rather rural location to find a dining gem during a wet October day. Still, this proved to be an excellent and hospitable restaurant to meet with friends and enjoy lunch. The dining area is modest in size but welcoming and the staff very friendly and attentive. The menu features 5-6 choices across each starter, main and desert courses. This proved to be a wise tactic from the chef since all the dishes were uniformly good in contrast to dining from long menus and big freezers! Across all three courses the quality of food was very good and the presentation attractive. Service was attentive but allowed time for a relaxed and sociable dining experience. Unfortunately, the wine could not be tasted as we were travelling further on in the afternoon. Overall, it was really ideal restaurant to enjoy no-frills food and a calm relaxed atmosphere. We wish the staff continued success and thank them for the kind attention.

En route to Edinburgh we were looking for somewhere for lunch. Having come across Barony on a quick search we were stunned by the quality of food on this small but attractively furnished restaurant. Instead of something utilitarian we had a really well prepared and tasty meal at a very reasonable price. We shall certainly make a point of stopping there again when travelling up to Edinburgh and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

Really disappointed having just moved to the area we were told this was a quality restaurant unfortunately this was not our experience. Initially the bacon and black pudding salad was nice soup not so tasty the steak was the issue, the medium well fillet arrived rare when we asked for this to be remedied it came back well done which was fine if the fillet had not been part of the chain, which was the real disappointment. Add to this a filet with two bites taken that was not a cause for concern from the staff sums up a very cynical and poor attitude, the female with the dark hair who appeared to be the senior person or manager shouting from the back of house who hadn't asked if there was a problem "have a nice night" was passive aggression in full flow. Fair to say we will not be back.

My wife and I had a fabulous meal at the Barony last night . Very covid secure and savvy , the ambience and service were really well judged . Our starters of prawn timbale and warm bacon and black pudding were delicious but the stars of the show were the fillet steaks for our mains , I have to say it was the tastiest steak I have had for years and cooked to perfection ( medium rare ) having a choice Of sauces as part of the meal and not as an added extra is a nice touch . Overall first class food and service and we will be back soon .

My wife’s cod didn’t taste right at all - definitely not fresh. There was only one other dish on the menu my wife could eat, which she didn’t want. No offer was made to make something else. We paid the bill and left. The person who appeared to be in charge looked entirely unconcerned by the situation. On arrival, when asked if they did mocktails, she had told us that they were “not that sort of restaurant”, whatever that was supposed to mean. Waiting staff were very pleasant and professional - same can’t be said for the senior staff member we encountered. We used to visit regularly when in Biggar. Sadly we won’t be doing so again.

Travelling from Edinburgh to Prestwick we scanned the SatNav for places to eat. Up popped The Barony, a quick Google search was enough to book a table for dinner. Let me start with a massive thank you to Chloe, she was an absolute gem of a waitress. Working front of house alone we watched her make every table feel welcome. The girl did not stop and took everything in her stride. Our evening was made more pleasant by Chloe. The Barony is a small intimate restaurant which oozes ambiance, it has a mixed feel of an old travel inn, a classy lounge restaurant and home. The setting just put you in the mood for a nice evening. The menu had something for everyone’s taste and all four in our party were delighted with their choices. The food was cooked to perfection and presented like dishes on Masterchef. The Barony is now a favourite destination on our SatNav, next time we visit the area we’ll be back. Thanks for a great night.

My friend made reservations for a late lunch for three of us during a weekday. Whilst the food was delicious it was a little pricey for what was served - especially given the small portion sizes. Overall the service was friendly, and we did happen to enjoy ourselves. From a personal perspective though, I would say this restaurant is catered more towards an older generation. The atmosphere is very quiet and "proper" - not the sort of place a group of friends can have their yearly catch up.

Booked in for Christmas lunch, friendly staff, but lunch was disappointing, very basic Christmas main, roast potatoes were not roasted, small amount of veg, no parsnips, no kilted sausages, no mash. No tablecloths, which would have been a nice touch, we were upstairs with another group of 6, no atmosphere. We were offered a cocktail & canapés on arrival, which we enjoyed, but still left disappointed.

So impressed with this place, everything went like clockwork. Booking is recommended at weekends, and arrive earlier if you want to park close by. We were welcomed and seated promptly; although the table was by the door the staff were careful to make sure it was shut quickly if a customer left it open. Service was prompt, friendly without being intrusive, and they did regular checks to make sure everything was going smoothly. We asked for slightly unusual drinks when they didn’t have the brands we’d normally order and they were happy to fix them exactly as requested. There was a good range of choice on the menu but not more than the one page (a good sign for fresh cooking and local produce!). All the courses were hot, tasty and big enough to be good value without leaving us unpleasantly full. The toilets were spotless, as was the restaurant generally. Highly recommended!

We flew into Edinburgh airport and headed back home to Lancashire. There were five of us and decided that we would like to finish our skiing holiday with a restaurant meal before home. I have personally travelled through Biggar many times and never thought to stop for food but we were so glad we did. The menu was wonderful. Full of fresh and seasonal produce which all the family really appreciated. The children were well catered for and loved being in a restaurant that had a busy and enjoyable atmosphere. One of my family was ‘gluten free’ and he was very satisfied with his options. Complements to the chef! The staff were very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered two feather blade beef which was so soft and melted in the mouth - outstandingly delicious! Also two fish of the day dishes which were fresh and all cooked to order - magnificent! Keep doing what you’re doing guys. My family really enjoyed our time with you.! Exceptional service and we will certainly visit you again when we travel up to Edinburgh again. A real gem !
