Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is local for me , it is dog friendly cosy and is good for a drink or afternoon tea . However on my last visit I made the mistake of having a meal . I had fish and chips and my wife had...burger and chips , we shared a bottle of white wine .We were asked to pay prior to having our food which we did . The food was brought to our outside table and we were told cutlery could be collected at the hotel entrance . This was easily done but I do not think knives should be freely available and unattended in a busy bar outside area . The food arrived , the fish although looking ok was dried up and tasteless , the chips were also tasteless and nothing was not .The burger was overcooked ,tasteless and the fries were cold . I considered putting ketchup on my food to give it flavour but the ketchup bottles were disgusting , dirty with congealed sauce around the top . I took the plates to the bar and complained about the quality of the food to a member of staff who just shrugged his shoulders . I asked him to inform the management. I returned to my table and we finished our wine .After about thirty minutes I again asked to see the manager . He stated that no one else had complained and he was unhappy that I had brought my plates to the bar . If I had not paid in advance for this meal I would have refused to pay .More

Wonderful food , great menu, friendly and helpful staff. Great place to have a pint or 2 in the pub side or slip into the restaurant for a delicious meal. Food is available on the pub side as well but it is counter ordering on...that side and not waited tables. Reservations recommended as it fills up fast at dinner times!More

Had dinner in the bar. Family and friends, party of six to celebrate 80th birthday. Gary looked after us really well. Prompt efficient service with friendly comments which made us all laugh but never became disrespectful. He sized up the mood of the party brilliantly....Gave the birthday boy a glass of bubbles and a slice of choc gateaux with candles. Unknowingly he provided a brilliant finish to the 80th celebrations. Food was delicious.More

Bit of a con Service was very good, drinks fine, food was good - a little overpriced for the portions but we were there with a voucher of £20 off from the village inns company that owns it (in return for registering with all of...your details etc). The voucher then appears on your phone with a ‘claim now’ banner. That bit wasn’t true. The small print states that you can only claim it 24 hours after registering. Nowhere else to go with an elderly relative after a train and a longish walk. The meal for two (good sea bass and good but small chicken burger) would have been worth it with the voucher. Without It I overpaid to be underfed after what felt like a con trick!More

A family friendly pub perfect for gatherings and get togethers - my husband and I booked a table for 5 of us (4 adults and a toddler), we were welcomed warmly upon arrival and taken to the table which already had the high chair sorted...out for my nephew which was a nice touch, lovely warm features throughout the building of wooden beams, dimmed lighting, a fireplace lit - what a wonderful atmosphere. They are also dog-friendly with a ‘dog station’ near the bar with water and treats. To start my sister and brother-in-law had the Baked Camembert for 2, I had the Calamari and my husband had the Brie Bites… all tasty, the cheeses as gooey as possible and the calamari crisp. For mains my sister had Chicken Schnitzel, the meat was succulent with no dryness, I had the 10oz Ribeye - with Dripping Sauce - cooked Rare - it was cooked to perfection and the dripping sauce was silky and intense in flavour. My husband had Mac & Cheese - with Pulled Brisket which was piping hot, very cheesy and the pork was tender. My brother-in-law had the Pork Belly & Mash - probably the most tender and moist pork belly experienced and a large portion too. My little nephew had the Child’s Tomato Pasta, a really large portion for a child and had a really intense tomato taste. No complaints at all for the mains, everything cooked well, very flavourful and decent portions. For desserts we had 2 Sticky Toffee Puddings, a Blackcurrant Sorbet for my nephew, a Banoffee Pie and The Honey Pot - all very tasty, the blackcurrant sorbet was nice and tart too. The only issue was The Honey Pot being a bit heavy and dense, but tasty nonetheless. I would recommend the Rothschild 2022 red wine - VERY good! Service was also brilliant, greeted warmly and the server was attentive and accommodating for my little nephew. We would all return without doubt for further family gatherings. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take pictures!More
