Perhaps a bit surprisingly, a genuine, superb bistro is tucked away in Harlech. The menu is relatively varied, the service was pleasant and efficient, the pricing was fair and most importantly, of course, the food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed a hearty mushroom soup, mildly...More

Description
Kath Sylvester and Wayne Sampson originally opened their Caribbean restaurant in the picturesque town of Harlech back in 2010 they brought a ray of Caribbean sunshine and spice to the small costal town, setting themselves up in a prime location next to Edward 1st mighty stronghold they quickly brought their brand of sun kissed food to the towns normally traditional eating habits. Later, in their culinary journey they moved their restaurant to another prime Harlech location to continue their special brand of ‘Soul Food’ cuisine. After a combined seven years of serving the local community they have now decided to move on and have passed on the business to a young, promising and upcoming local chef who has decided to diversify the premises and open a traditional style of bistro, offering a more relaxed style of dining with emphasis on using good local produce, cooking and preparing it simply and pricing it fairly. Having worked in some of the best places locally the new chef owner believes he can bring a brand of dining to Harlech which has a much needed position between our traditional style of cafes and our fine dining restaurants. With this new venture, Soul Food restaurant will be reborn as Castle Bistro to emphasise a Welsh contemporary feel and new direction incorporating a high quality yet simple and elegant style of food and service. The new and youthful head of ‘Castle Bistro’ is Chef and Owner Lee Williams of Dyffryn Ardudwy, having been professionally trained in the local area he has worked in some of the North Wests finest restaurants and eateries including beginning his career with work experience at the popular Maes y Neuadd Hotel, and further developing himself training with award winning head chef of Castle Cottage Harlech Glyn Roberts. Lee has also worked with popular establishments such as ‘The Meirionnydd’ Dolgellau and culminating at still a young age as head chef in both the ‘Bae Abermaw’ Barmouth and the idyllic lakeside hotel ‘Tyn y Cornel` on the Tal y Llyn lake. Lee will be serving only the best produce using local Welsh suppliers to bring to you a plate of traditional Welsh fayre served up with finesse, with main meals such as braised welsh lamb shank, a contender for what could be our national dish, Welsh Rarebit using what other than Welsh cheeses. The menu is simple yet full of flavour with easy eating style. Of course, no traditional Welsh eatery would be complete without a Sunday Dinner menu just like Nain made, Lee brings that home help yourself approach to the juicy roast meats in his innovative group Sunday roast platter mixing that family around the table feel without the hassle of the cooking (or thankfully the washing up)
