About
Richard and Caroline look forward to welcoming you to their beautiful, family run pub and campsite. This 18th Century Grade II listed drovers inn is set in beautiful surroundings next to the River Alwen. It recently appeared in the media as one of North Wales best beer garden, and it is easy to see why! The stunning seating area cascades down to the side of the river with awe-inspiring views from all tables. Serving excellent, locally brewed real Welsh ales and good classic ‘pub grub’ during all opening hours, The Crown Inn is the perfect pit stop for all. The long strip behind the pub is in fact an intimate wild campsite with 16 riverside pitches. Here, the kids can paddle and swim in safety, wildlife can be spotted and brown trout caught by the keen fisherman. Nearby, there are numerous hiking routes and nature trails all nestled within the Clocaenog Forest. There are even some secret waterfalls! The Crown really does have something for everyone.

We stayed with our two young children in the campsite and ate in the pub before and after days out. Caroline & Richard were excellent hosts. Lovely, reasonably priced food - campsite was in an idyllic location next to the river and also superb base for exploring Snowdonia/North Wales (less than 10 mins from A5). Will DEFINITELY return! :)

Booked the Crown inn to celebrate a special birthday. Richard and Caroline assisted by family were amazing, the birthday cake went down well with loads of comments about the best chocolate cake ever, Pizzas we’re amazing, great selection, and the camping experience matched the pub experience, perfect! Loved our weekend and can’t wait to go back. Thanks to all and good luck with the new venture.

The new owners, Caroline and Richard are super hosts - beer is great, food is great and you feel like you are getting proper individual attention. Good quiz nights too, on the last Sunday of the month. Highly recommended...

This campsite was beautiful. But even more amazing were how kind, friendly and accommodating the staff were. Firstly we arrived and had forgotten our covers the lovely couple gave us their own personal sleeping bags. Then following a very wet and soggy down pour one of our campers tent leaked and all their covers were drenched in which again the amazing women dried all of his things. They have alpacas and goats on site and the children were able to feed them and walk them. Despite the weather being awful we still had an amazing time and would definitely visit this site again (hopefully weather nicer) so can enjoy the river even more.

We stayed here for only one night but wish it was more. My self and my daughter stayed, she's aged 13 and we had a tent in the alpaca area. Upon arrival the owners could not have been any more welcoming. I've stayed at many a camp sites and no owner has ever been that polite and professional to ensure we knew everything. We had a great time in the alpaca area and even got to help feeding them, as well as the cheeky little goats who were so funny. The alpaca area is a fantastic experience and something different but really enjoyable. We had a walk around the place and checked out the peaceful surroundings. Later in the day we went for food in the pub, I had seen a previous review stating the food was not up too much. Well that was all lies. My daughter being a typical fussy teenager got a chicken burger and chips. She ate the lot and I had the pie and chips. Both meals were fantastic. The service was spot on and the locals in the pub were very friendly and welcoming. We finnished off with a fire at our tent next to the river. Very relaxing and peaceful. Then off to sleep on a mattress with a duvet in the tent. Luxury and comfort. Will we return? 100% we will and hopefully it keeps going for many more years to come. All I can say is go there you won't regret it.

We had a lovely few hours at the Crown Inn yesterday. We sat out the back in the beautiful beer garden with views of the river and had drinks and snacks. Food arrived quickly considering how busy they were and was tasty. The staff were extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. They even gave us a piece of garlic to use for our dinner when we said we forgot to bring some! Our cars got blocked in and the gentleman even helped us get them out! Definitely recommend and hope to return soon.

Six of us stayed here for two nights. We could not recommend enough! From the amazing hosts Caroline and Rich to the stunning setting, we where blown away. All information was provided on arrival and they where more than happy to answer any questions we had throughout our stay. We ate in the pub a few times and the food was perfect not one complaint from even the fussy eaters. As it was raining we had drinks there and a few games of pool. The staff and locals where so welcoming and we left feeling like we had been coming here for years. Thanks you Caroline and Rich, you are doing an amazing job!

Long story short but having our holiday cottage cancelled somewhere else we ended up staying just down the road from the Crown Pub. On our first night we went for tea there and I’m so glad we did. We were worried about our children creating chaos as it is a smaller cosy pub but the owners and everyone were so friendly and got toys out for the kids. There’s a lovey little fire and well stocked bar. The food was lovely, good portions and proper family food. Unfortunately we didnt get chance to go back during our stay but when we’re in the area again we will be going back. Thank you

A real treasure of a traditional ‘olde-world’ pub with accommodation facilities, in a truly beautiful setting on the Afon (river) Alwen. Family run place with great home cooked food. Very friendly locals. Rented cabins and camping site right alongside the tranquil shallow river in lovely gardens with woodland surroundings . And with a pen of amazing alpacas all with names and personal photo bios! So cute. Free ample car parking. The proprietors Richard and Caroline are just genuinely lovely people and great hosts. Enjoy!!

Me and my partner camped here for the night not expecting much for £10 but it turned out to be one of the best camping trips we’ve been on! We were welcomed and instantly felt comfortable in the pub, we were then showed to our pitch that was the perfect size for 2 of us. We both had a meal each and it was good authentic pub grub, we loved it! Socialising with the locals and other campers in the evening topped out experiencing off, it’s the most fun we’ve had in a long time. Thank you guys for acing us we can’t wait to return:)

Best experience at this campsite the owners and staff couldn’t do enough for everyone they work so hard. They don’t stop working from morning till late at night. As a single mum I felt so safe and met so many lovely families then our friends came and joined us who brought the wrong size tent for the pitch so the owners rearranged and gave us another pitch nothing was too much trouble. From start to finish it was an amazing experience it was spotlessly clean the compost toilets were immaculate the food and drinks service was outstanding. We walked the alpacas and learnt a lot about them with a lot of knowledge from the owners the children loved it we used the lake the whole time with my little boy fishing kayaking football pitches and a beautiful church 5 minute walk away we loved it so much we have booked for 3 weeks time pizzas on a Saturday night were beautiful and this site is my favourite in north wales so far and we have done many over the last ten years x Thank you so much for a truly amazing weekend the views and scenery were beautiful x

Brilliant campsite! The owners are wonderful people and they never fail to look after us. They provide a warm and welcoming site, in a beautiful area with all the amenities a person could need for a camp. The camping facilities are clean, tidy and regularly tended to. The pub is always bustling with lovely locals. We have visited this campsite three times in the last year now and the warm hostility of Caroline and Richard are why we will keep coming back!

Wow, what a fabulous bank holiday weekend The Crown has to be one of the best back to nature camping place anywhere. The riverside terraced beer garden and the campsite are stunning. The new owners have already made significant improvements to the pub, campsite and re-introduced a great family friendly atmosphere. On top of that the locally brewed real ales are back to their best.

Great Pub and Campsite. Richard and Caroline with the locals made my stay warm and welcoming , even had a guitarist to entertain one evening. Although WiFi is only available in the pub and not on the campsite it is not a bad thing if you want to be back to nature. Recommend the food and the beer all locally sourced and cooked to perfection .
