The menu is immense! The four of us all had different starters and main meals, yet both courses arrived in a timely manner, cooked to an extremely high standard and all were absolutely delicious. Meat, fish and vegetarian meals were all awesome. Congratulations and many thanks to Debbie and her friendly and accommodating team!

A group of four friends visited the Lion Inn by chance as we were staying nearby in the Chickenshed holiday home just up the road and we're glad we did. It's a lovely little traditionally styled pub, dog friendly, real fires burning and very friendly and helpful staff. We actually came back twice for lunches on a holiday that only lasted 4 days so that tells you we liked it. A couple of real ales, local ciders and good pub food at pub food prices awaits you and all in the cosy comfort of a fire in January is a nice way to spend some time with your friends. There is a small car park to park at nearby if you've got a car, but try and walk if you can to enjoy a few beers!

So glad you enjoyed your stay in the Wye Valley the Chckenshed and you visits to The Lion Inn. We normally have both the open fire and the log burner light during the cold winter months pleased to hear they had the desired effect. Thank you for your lovely review so glad you enjoyed the food, ales and surroundings. We look forward to your return to this beautiful part of the world again.

Over the years we have visited some favourite venues for daytime lunches. The Lion is one we particularly enjoy and one that does lunch on a Monday which many don't. The main difference has been how Covid has forced the issue of hygiene, on everyone dining in a social environment. Hand gels, track and trace, distancing etc. All the tables are screened off into separate enclosed bubbles, by see through plastic sheeting. Our meals were beautifully presented and tasty, my Gammon steak was lovely, while my wife's Lasagne was plentiful having chosen the smaller portion. I only have one drink due to driving and my Double Dragon was a perfect accompaniment to the Gammon.

We found this small eatery whilst driving around Monmouthshire and were very impressed with every aspect of our experience when we chose to have our lunch there. Firstly we received a very warm welcome from Kirstie, the safety measures in place were then explained to us and they were ten times better then a large chain of restaurants we had visited the previous week! Hand sanitiser was provided, track and trace was adhered too and the tables were well protected and separated, all in all we were made to feel very safe. There was also a large marquee in the grounds for larger groups if needed. On top of that we had a delicious meal chosen from a very comprehensive menu. Well done to everyone at The Lion Inn!

I have made frequent visits to the Lion and each occasion has been excellent. The atmosphere is warm and full of welcome. On a cold day, an open fire is lit making everyone feel as if they are home. The bar is stocked with a good choice of ale as well as lager, wine and spirits. The menu has always got something to tempt the taste buds. Always plenty of choices that use local farmers and stockists and the cost us very reasonable. The staff are well trained friendly without encroaching on the meal or personal space. The landlady is one in a million.

Delicious fresh made food - quality far beyond we had expected. Great ales on tap (it’s award winning for ales and holds its own beer and cider festivals). To eat, we had venison 5 ways (croquettes, stew, fillet, sausages and mini pie) and seabass in a butter and parsley sauce with fresh veg. They offer a ‘small appetites’ menu for kids and adults who can’t manage a big meal and honestly, the portions are so generous it’s incredible value for an adult meal). Kids had lasagne with chips and sausage and mash, both of which would have left me stuffed to bursting. Great, friendly staff and a lovely friendly atmosphere.

My partner and I both had Roast beef, very average, not much flavour. Roast potatoes tasted reheated. Service was good, attentive staff. Tables too close together, uncomfortable being so close to other diners and waiting staff squeezing between tables as we were eating, not acceptable. Excellent homemade cherry cheesecake, slightly mean portion size for the price. Noise coming from customers watching sport on tv, spoiling ambiance but very nice traditional pub.

Called in here on Sunday the 15th August whilst out on a motorbike ride. Popped in for a a pint of fabulous Wye Valley Butty Bach beer and a baguette. The pub is traditional, cosy, no TV 👍, relaxing background music and the staff are fantastic, very attentive and friendly, supervised by a lady who I assume is the owner ( long dark hair and a bit of a looker ! ) lots of people were having Sunday roasts and lots of compliments where forthcoming on the quality of the food. This is a fantastic proper pub. Great service, fab food and a really lovely atmosphere. Will definitely return next time I’m passing and would highly recommend 👍

My wife's birthday and although the late February weather was not too pleasant decided on a drive through the Forest of Dean followed by a meal ""somewhere".Soon, passing through Trellech "The Lion Inn" became our choice, and what a choice of was! I wonder if I should continue this review considering that the vast majority of previous reviews already say it all ! Anyway here we go - a warm welcome, yes it was Kirstie with a brief explanation of beers, ciders and wines available as well as the various menus. We were both very happy with our choices of drink and food as well as the service to supply it. All in all, our "off the cuff" decision to visit "The Lion" was a good one and as mentioned above, it will be repeated. Chris and Maggie.

A group of 8 of us stopped here for late lunch before travelling on to Monmouth for a weekend holiday this week. The pub was full of character and olde world charm with an open fire adding a cosy feel. Staff were brilliant; friendly and cheery throughout. The menu is extensive and the 8 of us had a range of meals which were all delicious. There was an impressive range of draft ales too. Excellent all round!

Six of us ordered meals and all of us were so impressed. The curry was delicious as was the carbonara. The only fault we could find was both dishes were too much for us to eat. Next time we won't have lunch! Our friends had the sea bass, fish and chips, faggots and peas and a falafel burger which looked amazing. All the meals came out together and were all hot. The service was fab. Harry and the girls looked after us really well.

Called in on the way through for some much needed lunch. We had burgers and ham egg and chips and it was thoroughly decent grub. A good plateful for a fair price and the food was good quality and tasty. Having paid well over £100 pounds for a family dinner during our trip through The Marches, this meal was equally satisfying at less than half the price. Recommended.

My husband and I visited this pub for lunch today and so glad we did. We were made so welcome by Kirsty who looked after us throughout our stay, advising on all the options available. Good variety of meals on the menu and the specials were intriguing too. The meals we opted for were served hot, on hot plates, (where relevant) and very tasty. Our compliments to the chef. We also could not fault the social distancing which was well organised. Thankyou for a lovely experience- we will be back. Chris and Dave. X

Arrived for 5.30 1.8.21 On arrival could not fault the service, main course arrived and the main course was to a high standard. Shift changed over and this experience dramatically changed. Sitting on table 30 I had to ask the staff at the bar on two occasions for extra drinks and the desert menu give or take half an hour which then had taken another 20 minutes when a waitress was clearing plates on another table I had to ask again. Feel like we were forgotten if the above concerns were not an issue easily 4 stars. I really don’t want to be critical as the pub location and food was great and the original waitress/bar was brilliant.

Luke I can only apologize that you were ignored towards the end of your meal. We do staff change over at 6pm but as you say bearing in mind how busy it was and is I will change the changeover to 7pm to allow for late eaters to receive the same quality of service that we pride ourselves on. Thank you for drawing this to my attention I will implement this immediately to ensure no one else feels ignored. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your meal and hope that this will not deter you from trying The Lion again.

Husband and I had a lovely lunch here. Gluten free options on menu and awareness of need to avoid cross contamination (due to being coeliac) were really good and nothing was a problem for the landlady or staff. Very good food and friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
