Open Tuesday to Saturday evenings from 5pm offering Early Bird menu, excellent value at £28.00 for three courses plus a full a la carte menu. Children are welcome and children's menu is available. Fantastic Traditional Sunday Roast every Sunday with a choice of Roast Beef and Roast Lamb, fish and vegetarian options also. 2 Courses x £23.50 And 3 courses £28.00. We visited this restaurant recently and really enjoyed the flavours of our food. We ordered crab and scallops to start. The crab was excellent, but the scallops were a little small so less succulent, although they still tasted good. For our mains we ordered lamb and fillet steak. The lamb really was delightful, the lamb melted in your mouth and the mash did too. The lamb jus was really amazing! The fillet steak, for me liking mine medium to well done, sadly came rare with blood on the plate. This did ruin it for me being very adverse to my steak bleeding out. I wished to keep my perfectly cooked fries whilst my steak was cooked for longer, but sadly the waiter took these from me, leaving me sat for 10 minutes with no food and my husband eating alone. The experience is then ruined if I'm honest. The steak, once returned, was perfectly cooked, but the fries were then anemic as they chucked my perfect ones I wanted to keep and made more!! However, I would still recommend this restaurant as the flavours are all there, I just think staff need to listen to what the customer wants to provide a better service.

Many thanks for your four star review, it is all very much appreciated at the moment. Iolo is am expert at listening to peoples needs and I believe on this occasion he did all he could. Some restaurants have stopped the luxury of been able to choose how your steak is cooked, to avoid such situations!

This restaurant is incredible, from the service to the food & drink on offer. My fiancée & I visited in August during the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme. All the tables were well spaced out, the staff all wore face coverings and everything was extremely professional.
We ordered a beautiful bottle of red wine for our meals (see attached photo) had starters & mains each & shared a dessert. I would highly recommend the scallops as a starter & the rump of Welsh Lamb as a main. I had my lamb medium rare & it was done to perfection with some charring on the outside but soft and pink in the middle. The bottle of red we ordered complemented both our dishes perfectly & we managed to tuck away some mango & black-current sorbet to end the evening.
The owner spoke to all the guests to ask them how their meals were. The staff continuously checked in on us to make sure everything was alright & finally with the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme in place we were grateful to see a saving of £20 on our bill (£10 per person). Thank you to the owner, the staff & the chef’s for a fabulous evening accompanied by wonderful food & service.

We stayed at a local country house above the village who recommended this restaurant. It looked nice and we booked it well in advance. We received a warm welcome but were seated directly looking into the kitchen, which was a shame as it always shows any little blips. The food was lovely , but the service was a bit erratic, one of the front of house kept dipping in to the kitchen and eating out of a silver bowl on the serving pass....not what customers want to see in this day and age. And many of the staff would kick the serving doors leaving ugly black marks on the doors, not the way I was taught many moons ago. It is definitely worth a visit , they just need a little guidance with service. The menus were also dog eared and grubby, which is never a good start....come on guys just a little more effort and you could be 5 star

Your comments are fair and constructive and I appreciate that despite the door kicking and dog eared menus that you still rate us so highly. All your comments noted and acted upon! Me and my wife found this place online whilst looking for somewhere to dine out during a holiday in Porthmadog last week, and booked a table on the strength of the reviews.
We were glad we did as it more than lived up to our expectations. The restaurant itself is very smart looking in a 'traditional but contemporary' style and likewise, the service is very efficient, yet friendly and relaxed, making for an overall extremely pleasant dining experience. And the food? Absolutely delicious, generous portions and extremely good value for money. So much so that o dining there on the Tuesday, the next day we booked another meal there for the Saturday night, which was equally as good.
In summary, in terms of the surroundings, quality of the food, professionalism and friendliness of the staff and overall value for money, I would not hesitate to return and have already recommended Y Sgwar to friends.

this was our first meal since lockdown and also a reason to celebrate with my husbands promotion. To start with, they were extremely helpful in the way that they went to get a helium balloon for me for the table! The food was delicious, and the highlight for me was the vegetable tacos, usually with things like that, restaurants compensate for the lack of meat with overpowering spices, but this was not spicy in the slightest, which for me was perfect! Great mains, and finished it off with a lovely homemade pavlova. The owner actually takes her time to talk to all the guests in a very personalised way, which shows she really cares about the customer! Would definitely recommend and would definitely revisit.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Y Sgwar last week and we can't rate it highly enough. We hadn't actually eaten particularly well on our trip to Porthmadog so far (but understand this is probably due to staffing issues with the pandemic) and so didn't have the highest expectations. We were served by Emma Jane, Lowri and Iolo who really made the experience special. The rapport amongst the staff makes for a very fun evening, the food was exceptional (I would never usually choose Hake and it was strongly recommended by Iolo that I try it - I've been dreaming of it since) and we felt that it was very well priced for such a lovely experience. I would go back in a heartbeat.

A lovely little restaurant in the small village of Tremadog. Contemporary furnishings, smart & clean. We had a two course dinner & a two glasses of wine each which came to around £75. The food was lovely, I had the pork followed by creme brûlée & my partner chose the cod followed by Tia Maria cheesecake, which a tasted & it was delicious, I wish I’d chosen it!
Overall a lovely meal, quite unexpected to find a restaurant of this standard in a small village.
They also do an early bird dinner from 6 - 7 which is very popular, but we missed that.

My friends and I would like to thank all the staff at Y Sgwar for looking after us so perfectly this evening. We had originally planned to visit a different restaurant while visiting the area for my birthday, however due to being off season they were closed. We saw a few reviews for this restaurant and thought that it would be good to try. From entering to leaving we felt welcome by all the attentive and friendly staff, the food was amazing, personally I can definitely recommend the muscles starter (to die for). Although it was embarrassing it was so sweet when I was treated to a complimentary ice cream and a chorus of “happy birthday” from the staff.
This restaurant is a must try for anyone in the area and we will most certainly be booking in again next time we visit this lovely part of Wales.

We visited twice within three days earlier this month. On both occasions the host Lorraine went out of her way to ensure we had a superb meal. Having previously telephoned to advise that my wife has a very restricted and difficult diet, Lorraine and her staff were keen and enthusiastic about finding the right food. When a particular dessert that my wife wanted on our first visit was unsuitable due to certain ingredients, she went to the trouble of having the chef recreate it for our second visit. All the staff were friendly helpful and very efficient.
For the first time in years my wife looked forward to going out to eat.

This restaurant was recommended to be by a work colleague and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
We were visiting North Wales between September 11/18th and booked a table for Friday 17th. Unfortunately for us we got a cracked windscreen and Autoglass weren’t able to fix it until the Saturday So I had to cancel the reservation.
Within thirty minutes of cancelling Autoglass rang with a Friday slot. Back on the phone even ringing Lorraine private mobile no by mistake, desperate that our reservation hadn’t been filled and luckily for us it hadn’t.
We were given a vey warm welcome by lolo on our arrival,who rembered our cracked windscreen story.
I ate of the early bird menu and my husband choose the Al a carte menu, neither
disappointed.
The staff were all amazing, giving us lots of time to choose as it all looked amazing.
I had the lamb of the EBM and my husband the chicken. Sticky toffee pudding and Pavlova for desserts which were delicious.

Great restaurant which is both well organised and serves excellent food.
I had the scallop starter which beautifully cooked and my son had the duck tacos which he really enjoyed.
For mains I had a lamb special which was tender and had a delicious jus. My son had the duck breast (i know he has a thing for duck) which was also perfectly cooked and he enjoyed it very much.
Lorraine the owner runs a tight ship and the place is all the better for it.

We were lucky enough to get a last minute table here and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing, I had the lamb and it was one of the nicest meals I have ever had. Our children had the pasta from the kids menu and even that seemed freshly made and really good quality which you don’t always get with children’s meals.

We already knew this restaurant had a great reputation with excellent choices for vegans and vegetarians! But we chanced trying to get a table on a Friday evening at very short notice. The hostess and proprietor Lorraine was so accommodating and was able to find a table for us despite the restaurant being fully booked. All the staff made us feel so welcome with impeccable service even with a full house
The mushroom tacos (vg) and vegetarian Wellington (vg) were delicious, Inventive and presented beautifully! The vegetarian gravy was to die for!!!
Would highly highly highly recommend this adorable restaurant turning out exceptional food! But I would definitely suggest booking, even though we were so fortunate to be slotted in!

We visited this restaurant for my boyfriend’s birthday. All safety measures for Covid were in place and we was given a warm welcome upon arrival. We all had starters and fillet steak for our main. I can honestly say it was the best steak I have ever had & it was cooked to perfection. The guy that took our order (sorry we didn’t get your name but you looked a bit like Alan Carr 🙈) was a ⭐️ attentive but not intrusive & really funny. He even put a candle in my partners dessert and sang happy birthday to him 🎂 nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food & service from this restaurant thank you 😊

We’ve been staying locally for the past 10 days and have tried various takeaways from local restaurants. A couple of nights ago we ordered the Confit of Duck & Lamb Shank and didn’t have the highest expectations just because it was going to be boxed up & you never expect it to be as nice. It was beautiful. Obviously the presentation isn’t what it would have been as we dished it up, but the quality of the meal was superb, it was piping hot & tasted amazing! Would fully recommend 👌🏻
We’ve wanted to try you before, but never felt we could visit with the kids, so this was ideal.
