Nestled on the edge of a quaint caravan park just outside Haverfordwest, The Rising Sun may appear unassuming at first glance. However, this small public house serves up a Sunday lunch that rivals the comforts of your own kitchen. On our second visit, we were once again reminded of why it’s becoming a favorite for a satisfying, no-fuss meal.
The menu offers honest, hearty fare—reminiscent of a traditional home-cooked Sunday roast. The Bald chose the turkey, accompanied by parsnips, carrots, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, and, upon request, a Yorkshire pudding. An addition of £1 for the Yorkshire pudding felt excessive for what is essentially baked batter, the meal itself was otherwise well-received.
I opted for the lamb, which shared the same core trimmings as the turkey but our dining experience was further elevated by a delightful assortment of vegetables. A hearty portion of cauliflower cheese was a standout, while the mashed swede and tangy red cabbage added a satisfying balance. The broccoli, though slightly undercooked for my liking, still added a fresh crunch to the plate. A generous jug of rich, flavorful lamb gravy arrived on request, tying everything together beautifully.
One minor misstep came with the pigs in blankets, which we both found overly salty—likely a result of using frozen ingredients. Nonetheless, this small flaw was easily forgiven in the context of an otherwise stellar meal.
The portion sizes were generous, leaving us too full to explore the enticing selection of starters and desserts. Still, the main course ticked every box, delivering comfort and quality in equal measure.
For a dreary January afternoon, The Rising Sun provided exactly what was needed—a warm, hearty meal that left us content and planning our next visit. If you’re in the Haverfordwest area and seeking good value and great flavor, this little gem is well worth a stop.

Staying in this area with our touring caravan and phoned a few days ago to book this pub for Easter Monday dinner. The landlord was very friendly on the phone and booked us a table for two, in their dog friendly part of the restaurant as we mentioned we would be bringing our dog.
We’ve just left the pub after a very enjoyable evening and a delicious meal. The landlord and his adult daughter, who also works at the pub, were friendly and welcoming. The service we received was attentive and excellent. The food was freshly cooked, so did take a little while to arrive, but we prefer not to have a rushed service. My husband had the chilli plus a portion of chips to share and I had the souvlaki, both meals were very well presented and tasted great and the chips were perfectly cooked too. The souvlaki tasted as good as I’ve eaten in Athens. The portions were very generous sizes. We’ll definitely return when in the area again soon

Booked as table for 16 adults to celebrate a family event. We had the menu sent to us, so we had the chance to pre-order. After arriving and ordering drinks, we all sat down. It wasn't long before the food arrived. Despite a variety of different orders, each meal was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The portion size was plentiful. So much, we couldn't fit in desserts!
Staff were attentive and friendly.
Great value for money, super friendly with amazing home cooked food.

Turned up for an 80th birthday lunch after booking weeks in advance, only to turn up and find out the booking wasn’t arranged even though we had confirmations previously. Family had travelled down especially to be there, apparently there was nothing they could do to fit us in even though it wasn’t our fault, wasn’t impressed with how we were treated definitely will not be returning. The lady we spoke to was making jokes when we were frantically trying to look for other options for dinner, so if you do go here make sure to triple check they’ve actually booked you in.

We had a large group for a child's birthday. We were made very welcome, the dining area was lovely, the staff attentive and the food was more what we would expect from a much more expensive restaurant - all cooked to order in a very reasonable time and absolutely delicious! Not one of the group was disappointed.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

We were staying nearby and went here twice for dinner. It's recently under new ownership and the menu is greatly improved from the standard pub fare shown on the menus people have previously shown in their reviews. They do four kinds of skewers - we had the chicken teriyaki and the chicken souvlaki and they were absolutely divine. The next night we took soup and duck bon-bons for starters and burgers for the mains and again they were very high quality indeed. The staff in this place are particularly worth singling out for being friendly, chatty, helpful and generally a pleasure to be around. Whoever has taken over this place (and particularly whoever has overhauled the menu) knows *exactly* what they are doing!

While holidaying in the area we booked Sunday for 13:30 they close at 14:00.
Arrived 15 minutes early but no problem as by the time we ordered our table was ready. The promised 3 course lunch advertised on the web site “is out of date” so Sunday lunch and a pud the only offering. Our first disappointment.
After a slightly longer wait than would have been liked. Our order for the main course choice of Beef or Pork with set accompaniments was taken. Firstly a small dish (for 5 meals) of broccoli, carrot and peas. Followed by 5 plates of “brown” Sunday Lunch. Unfortunately both the pork and beef appeared shredded as though the after carve bits and not as slices as you would expect, the penalty of a later in the day booking, confirmed later by the pork no longer being available. Roasted potatoes were very overdone and soft. The crackling was so soft it bent double when picked up. Likewise the Yorkshire Pudding had lost its crisp outer and the centre rather than fluffy was elastic. So overall although it was edible it was far from enjoyable. Our second disappointment.
On to pud. Having been given a desert menu with 5 options we made our selections, only to be told on ordering certain things were possibly not available so we worked around to our “second” choices. Our server return to say no vanilla ice cream, a basic on 4 of the deserts so another change plus one other option was finished, so yet another adjustment required. Lastly the requested pot of tea never did arrive.
While each server was polite and attentive when they were at our table, the overall service was slow and disjointed.
Overall for a pub restaurant of only about 30 covers it was poorly run, the food while edible but had elements of lower than expected standard and therefore of poor value.

Absolutely incredible. I contacted the owners Friday wondering if there was any chance they could have 15 of us (8 adults, 7 children ages 4-10) for Sunday lunch in two days time. Not only did they say they'd love to have us but they accommodated a difficult dietary need on top of a busy kitchen preparing Sunday lunches.
Then the day came and they truly exceeded all our expectations. The food was delicious, fresh, hot and huge in portions. Even the children went quiet whilst eating because it was so tasty!! Honestly, there are no words for how much we all enjoyed our meals.
When the children were being a bit rowdy there was no pressure to keep them silent, we felt really relaxed the whole time.
The staff were so accommodating, welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. A fantastic team are clearly being well looked after by wonderful management. They all wanted to be doing a fab job and they did just that and more!
Thank you so much to the owners, chef and staff for a wonderful time - especially for a last minute big booking with additional requests. Can't wait to come back!

Booked for Saturday tea as we'd been told they get busy, arrived for 6pm as booked & it was fairly quiet, had a delicious, hot meal (starter & main, no pudding as too full). By the time we were leaving, about 8ish it was really busy. Lovely staff, good service & delicious food. Highly recommend.

A dodgy start, when on arrival we were steadfastly ignored by the servers even though it didn't appear they were busy with other customers. itwas not the most cute or cosy or picturesque place... also we were seated at a table next to the toilets, but never mind. Having said that, though, once we had been noticed, the service was great. As seems to be normal now, we were properly grilled as to allergies, but do we actually have to claim an allergy to something we simply dislike for it to matter? Just because I'm not allergic to something doesn't mean I will want to eat it! ANYWAY, all that notwithstanding, we had an Absolutely OUTSTANDING veggie burger! The best meal of our entire trip, so we forgive the Rising Sun everything else.

Although we had booked ahead for Sunday lunch, the ground floor of the Inn was extremely full and noisy when we arrived, and I (at least) couldn't see any free tables. The Inn staff, however, were determined to honour our booking; they opened the upper floor at once (cool, peaceful, roomy, nicely-furnished with some superb retired church pews), and brought our meals up in very quick time. Well-cooked traditional roast, generous helpings with plenty of vegetables. Not too expensive.

Have just had a delightful dining experience at The Rising Sun. Everything from a warm welcome from our Hostess to a lovely friendly waitress, fabulous freshly cooked food in a relaxed atmosphere. So refreshing to be welcomed and treated like a human being and not just a body with money to spend. Staff are genuinely friendly. Chef who can actually cook & not just press buttons on a microwave!! All in all The Rising Sun delivered the whole package and we were both rewarded with a fabulous, tasty satisfying meal. We will most certainly be returning. 👏👏👌

Last minute decision to have a meal on a Friday evening and lucky for us the Rising Sun could accommodate our request for a table of 6.
The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. There was a lovely cosy atmosphere despite the fact the restaurant was extremely busy on a Friday night.
The service was excellent and all our starters and mains were delicious, the only problem we had was deciding what to have as all the food we saw being served looked very appetising.
Thanks again to all the staff at the Rising Sun for making our last minute family meal so enjoyable.
We’ll be back again soon!

We went for a family meal of 12 of us during our holiday. We pre-booked 3 weeks b4 and pre-ordered the day before, due to being a large booking. The staff, setting and establishment were wonderful. Staff attentive and friendly and were more than happy to accommodate. It was our waitresses 2nd shift and she excelled! There was a wait between the courses, but this not a complaint, just a warning and believe me, it was worth the wait! The food was incredible. All freshly cooked and prepared and was delicious 😋 a great varied menu too. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are in the area, go there!
