A Small Scale Christmas Miracle

What a lovely end to a fab evening. Thank you so much to the staff for fitting us in at zero notice. People who book and then just don’t turn up shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy such tasty dishes anyway…. Ah well… their loss… our gain. We’d never usually be able to get in with a few weeks notice, let alone a few hours. 10/10 for not turning us away. We kept it simple, steak, chips, onion rings and pepper sauce… with a refreshing Sprite. Don’t judge… it was the end of the night. And it was divine. 10/10 for quality, value and service. We even had a show off another table. They were quite rude when challenging the owner, and even though she explained her process and ingredients, she still removed things off their bill at their request. They refused to drink their Liqueur coffee creamers (even though one of them still did drink it after they had their reduced bill). They prolonged the whinging even after it was dealt with. I would like to say that we didn’t allow them to ruin our evening, but in fact it was so hilarious that it added to our enjoyment. Just felt bad for the staff. We sang Christmas carols over their negativity as they left and hope they enjoyed our beautiful voices. Overall, amazing food, amazing people! Top tip, remember to be decent. And merry Xmas to all.

A little tiny restaurant packed full of quality!

Oooh what a treat! Our friends took us out here for a wonderful meal apparently it has been booked for weeks. I can understand now why? Because this restaurant is tiny but stunning the lady who served us was extremely kind and lovely took a drinks. Order took our food order and I was not disappointed the steak was perfectly cooked, I would say the sauce is a little bit expensive for the amount that you get. Fantastic evening for us all.

Second time visiting Steak and Stamp and will definitely be returning again. The steak was incredible and we loved that we could see the chef making our steaks from where we were sat. The chips and onion rings I had with my steak were incredible also. The chef and the waiter were so friendly and I loved how it gave a welcoming and inviting environment. The only thing to keep in mind when going is the parking as there is limited parking out the front but that is no fault to the restaurant, just something to consider so you make sure you have time to find a car space before your booking.

Beautiful Steak, lovely venue and fantastic staff

Finally got to visit the restaurant with my wife as a birthday present. My wife had the surf and turf and the first ever time I tried a tomahawk steak. What was lovely was as it's a fairly small venue the chef was mere metres away so when I asked for it rare the Chef gave me nod to say yes that's fine. We ordered two sides also (bacon and cabbage and onion rings) which could have served 4 people easily. The food was fantastic, steak cooked to perfection and lovely home cut chips (I think!). I was already planning what I was going to have the next time we would visit. A real welcoming place.

Received a voucher for Christmas 22 and celebrated my son’s 11th birthday on Saturday so thought we would have a dad and lad meal out. We are both meat lovers, so thought let’s go to the steak and stamp, heard great reviews let’s see what it’s all about. Stunning!! That is it in a nutshell, staff stunning, couldn’t do enough for us and made my boy feel like a man not treated as a kid. Value for money, stunning. Food absolutely stunning. We watched in awe at the chef plating up the food and the servers taking it to other tables, every dish looked sublime. We had the steak sharing platter, which was just the right amount of food for 2. We left in a food coma, but a good food coma. Absolutely will go again, absolutely will tell people. It’s that good, i had to say something, and write my first ever review on here. If you’re local, or visiting get a table booked, you will not be disappointed!

Amazing visit

The best steak place in Wales Managed to get a last minute booking due to a cancellation for a family of 6 Can’t fault the service & the food is delicious. I have a fussy 4yo daughter that won’t eat red meat so very pleased she was able to have chicken nuggets. Overall amazing experience Husband was secretly upset churros for desserts was off the menu lol

Quantity not quality

After so many good reviews we decided to try Steak & Stamp for my partners birthday (who is a chef himself). We were the first customers attend on a Saturday night. The restaurant itself it’s quite cosy with only 5 tables, but I believe there are cabins out there back for larger parties. We were seated in front of the meat fridge and the kitchen so we could see and smell everything. Unfortunately every time the meat fridge was opened it smelt like a rotten food bin, although, I am aware cured meat does have an unpleasant smell it was slightly off putting. Our starters were delicious! We had the prawns and crispy beef and finished it all, as it went down a treat. I am afraid I cannot say the same about the mains course, which was the dry aged plater. The meat was poor quality (chewy, full of gristle and some was inedible) and was also undercooked. We asked for the steaks to be cooked medium, but they came rare. We believe this is because the steaks were cooked straight from fridge and not at room temperature. You could also taste they were not seasoned (and we watched the chef cooking them too, so know this to be the case). Little tip: Rocksalt, garlic powder and crushed black peppercorn make an awesome steak seasoning. The dirty fries were not dirty. Most dirty fries consist of fries, bacon, onions,seasoning, cheese along with some added extra. What arrived was fries covered in extra large chunks of pepper (too large in my opinion), a few slices of red onion and some cheese. The onion rings we saw the chef take them out of a packet, and tasted just like that, which is fine I guess. The peppercorn sauce was bland and didn’t really taste of pepper at all. I must state that the standard of the food has no reflection on the friendly staff and I actually feel sorry for the chef as there was only one chef for the whole restaurant, so clearly understaffed.

We always strive to provide a dining experience to remember for all the right reasons, so we are sorry that you considered that your main course fell short on quality on this occasion. We were a little surprised by your comments, especially your remark that the meat was undercooked, as you hadn’t mentioned it on the evening. It is extremely difficult to rectify any issue in a timely manner, if we are unaware of it. As a Chef himself, I am sure your partner is only too aware of how hard it is to meet customers needs if the first time he finds out about an issue is on TripAdvisor. We hope you can also understand our surprise that you continued to order the dry aged steak sharer, based on your initial comment in your review in regard to our meat fridge. We do appreciate and welcome constructive feedback, however a lot of time and effort goes into our home-made beef salt to perfectly season your steak to your own liking! We are thrilled you found our team friendly, and we appreciate your concern for our Chef too. However, as the business owner, she understands the pressures of operating a small and popular restaurant in the current climate. Thank you for your review.

We finally had the chance to try Steak and Stamp - for my daughter’s birthday and we were not disappointed. The lovely ladies on the table next to us had their order delivered before we placed our order and we were persuaded straight away to order the crispy beef as a starter - wow - definitely would try that again and again and again !!!!! The steak was amazing and the crispy onion rings were just as they should be. After seeing the homemade pistachio ice cream - we had to share a dessert just to see if all three courses could be that good- they were. Hard choice - churros or homemade crème brûlée - crème brûlée won and it was definitely a winner. The Chef was helpful, friendly and could certainly cook. We will definitely be back and have already recommended to friends. THANK YOU

You can’t cook steak straight from the fridge.

Ok the title of my review basically says what I want to say. This is a steakhouse which specialises in steak and When we ordered our steaks I could see the moving of meat from the fridge and I thought to myself I hope they are not cooking it from the fridge otherwise it’s not going to be tender… And it wasn’t. We had various cuts between us and the Châteaubriand, which you can’t really go wrong with, was the best but that was overcooked. The ribeye which should’ve been cooked the most was the rarest, you couldn’t even put your fork into it, and the rump was also inedible, both steaks had a lot of fat and gristle and were left, The tomahawk steak was also overcooked and very gristley the meat on the bone, which is normally the best, you couldn’t even get any meat off the bone it was so tough :( The sides were okay the pepper sauce didn’t really taste of pepper is more like a gravy. Food wise the portion was massive so plenty for four people to eat but in all honesty I would’ve preferred less food and better quality. If you can’t leave the meat to warm up to room temperature probably better to invest in a Sous Vide machine to pre warm the meat, perfect every time!

Can we ask why you didn’t mention these issues with the steaks at the time of your visit? It is extremely difficult to rectify any problems in a timely manner, if the first time we find out about them is via an anonymous TripAdvisor review. As you can imagine it’s difficult enough as a small hospitality business at the moment, and we work hard to try and provide our customers with a dining experience that they remember for all the right reasons. We value any feedback though – negative or positive, and I can assure you that your comments have been passed onto Stacey.

Excellent!!

Visited recently on a Monday evening 4 adults. Had a few drinks in their pub next door (very enjoyable) where we got talking to locals who were highly complimentary of the pub and restaurant and introduced us to Stacey who was the chef. We ordered the Original Steak & Stamp banquet with extra sides and a bottle of wine and everything we had was excellent quality (chateaubriand the stand out for us all) and generous portions! Service also excellent! All of us said we cant wait to return and have highly recommended to family and friends.

Steak heaven.

If you are a steak lover you will love Steak and Stamp. The restaurant is very small and intimate with an open kitchen which allowed us to watch the food being prepared but also caused my wife to keep repeating over and over look at that and wanting to change her order. We chose the Chateaubriand sharer and we were not disappointed, we intended to try the desserts but there was no chance of that, the servings are very generous and that was without a starter. We will certainly be returning with friends and this is because of the quality of the food and also the excellent service. The place really is a little gem that I fully recommend.

Best eating experience

I have to admit I had another experience to die for at the Steak & Stamp, a hidden gem that I cannot fault in any aspect. I’ve been to other highly recommended eateries in & around the area but this knocks the others out of the ball park. Stacey & crew always make us welcome and will even cater to specific needs, like me having the black pudding off my wife’s order added to mine. Stacey has the fantastic ability & memory to know your previous visits and will adapt to make sure your experience is again a memorable one. The tastiest steaks I’ve ever had, lightly seasoned so not to spoil the taste and sufficient to satisfy any appetite My only complaints, are that I now have to start at the top of the menu choice again and get me the next size of trousers. See you soon Stacey & Crew x

Literally my favourite restaurant currently. Visited on Sunday afternoon to a fairly busy restaurant, but that did not effect the service or quality of the food. Myself and my partner was in awe of the food. The floor staff was very welcoming and so was the chef who was very approachable and very engaging with us intrigued customers. Well worth a visit and we can not wait to come back. I’m a pescatarian and the choices were good for and even contained suitable vegetarian options. You have a beautiful business.

Simply the best. I will be back

Recently visited this small steak restaurant and what a dining experience. Front of house staff polite, well presented and very professional. There is an excellent range of steaks available including Dry Aged Steaks which are purchased per ounce. As previous visits we ordered one 10 oz Ribeye and one 10 oz Dry Aged Ribeye accompanied by a choice of sides. Meals are cooked and prepared in an open kitchen, and credit must be given to the chef who worked non stop whilst we were there to keep up with the demand with a near full restaurant. Both of our steaks cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. Thank you to Stacey and your team for an excellent evening.

Disappointing

Steak was ok but I’ve had better to be honest. What spoilt the experience was the attitude of the chef when challenged about the quality of the liqueur coffee cream which was bitter, had no sugar and used long life cream. After spending over £200 didn’t expect to be treated in this manner - what happened to “the customer is always right?”. Won’t be going there again in a hurry I’m afraid - better places to eat (with a better atmosphere too) in the centre of town. No wonder there were two empty table on the last Saturday before Christmas!

It’s a tricky one - we strive to balance customer satisfaction with maintaining integrity in our craft. Clearly, we missed the mark for you. While we understand that occasionally things don’t go exactly according to plan, our team will always continue to try their hardest under significant pressure.
