Liz made us more than welcome from the start making us feel relaxed in front of the fire. Dining was a culinary delight and time passed so quickly as we went from surprise to surprise of each course of the tasting menu. You even get...your own box of cutlery! A special occasion evening .sadly we were not stayingMore

We stayed for 1 night on Saturday for my birthday in the Waters room and had the tasting menu. Now I have to say all the food and drinks were amazing, one of the best tasting menus we have had, and the breakfast was lovely...a little of everything like a small tasting platter. The owner Liz was very friendly. The room for us was very nicely done but a little small, dark and cramped and it was quite drafty but it is an old building.More

A truly wonderful experience from start to finish. We visited here this weekend and were treated impeccably from the minute we arrived. The rooms are stunning and cosy and well equipped, the hosts are smiley, knowledgeable and cannot do enough for you. The food was...out of this world and the wine wonderful. A must visit! Thank you.More

About 15 years ago, we visited a little known hidden gem called The Black Swan at Oldstead, & I posted a review saying that it was every bit as good as much better known restaurants in the area. Quite a lot has happened to Tommy...since then! Last night’s trip to The Hare evoked exactly the same emotions. As self-professed ‘foodies’, it’s incredible that Liz & Paul’s amazing tasting menu experience has eluded our ‘radar’ until now. I won’t add a long-winded review … just read any of the others, marvel at their consistency, & trust me that everything they say is bang on the mark. We loved the whole evening, couldn’t fault any of the dishes, & will definitely be back!More

We saw a hare ( and then a barn owl ) before we checked in - a good omen. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was incredible - both in quality and presentation - the care and attention to detail from Paul...and Liz was exceptional. The tasting menu was served with knowledge and skill by Liz (and Karen) and the experience was made very special because they were so friendly and welcoming. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Hare as a lovely place to stay and dine in such a peaceful and relaxing setting.More

Went to the Hare last night and had to review while the experience was fresh in my mind. In fairness, it will be a long time before I forget the food we ate. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome...by Liz. We had lovely cocktails and were then shown to our table. The restaurant is tiny, only 5 tables for 2 so it feels very intimate. The meals are all served with approx 5 minutes between them so you are all eating the same things at the same time. The food was sublime! From the three small starters to the two puddings the food was exceptional. For me the tomato dish was the best, who knew that 3 cherry tomatoes in a tomato tea could pack such a punch. All you could hear was murmurs of appreciation from the room. My husband had the wine accompaniment and each wine was fully explained by Liz as to why she’d chosen it and decided how to serve it. My husbands favourite course was the lamb. The two puddings were amazing, the milk course with honey was incredible and the final course, a chocolate mousse with locally foraged hazelnuts was just incredible. A perfect end to a perfect meal. Each course was beautiful, each element was on the plate because it was needed to compliment the flavours, not just to look pretty. You can stay at the restaurant but need to book a long time in advance. If, as we were, you are staying locally make sure you book a taxi well in advance. They are few and far between. We were extremely fortunate that our hotel host transported us there and back which allowed us to relax and enjoy ourself. Why this place doesn’t have a Michelin star is beyond me - come on Michelin committee do the right thing and award a star to a small perfectly formed team. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.More

We had an absolutely fantastic time at your restaurant and we both enjoyed the whole experience. We wanted to commend the exceptional service provided by Liz, not only friendly and welcoming but also displayed a great deal of knowledge and passion when describing each course....We must say that the food was absolutely outstanding. Each dish we tried was bursting with flavors and the presentation was wonderous which made the dining experience a feast for the eyes as well. The attention to detail in every aspect of the meal truly showcased the culinary expertise of the chef. Breakfast was just as beautifully presented, and quality just as exceptional. Plenty of variety including hot and cold choices. We stayed in one of the garden rooms named Leveret, it was cosy, comfortable and suited our needs perfectly. A nice touch in the bathroom was the roll top bath, walk in shower and under floor heating.More

This was a really memorable experience, in a good way. Parking was easy just in front of the inn. It was built by the monks of Rievaulx abbey in the 12c to store their beer. It does look French. Elizabeth is a very attentive host...and obviously proud of what they have created here. The tasting menu started at 7pm and was a lovely discovery of taste over several hours crafted by the Chef Paul. Every course was delicious and served at a nice pace. We did really like it and the restaurant is comfortable and not stuffy. We had wine at £30 per bottle and it was good. Our room was nice with a very comfortable bed. One tiny niggle, the bath lotion was on the wall at the end of the roll top bath so couldn't be reached. Breakfast was superb. We had a lovely walk near Rievaulx Abbey and a pint at the Star at Harome, all in the sunshine. Takes some beating.More

We had a wonderful time at the Hare, enjoying a fabulous meal, an overnight stay in the very comfortable Waters room and a very good breakfast. We were given a warm welcome and were thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail throughout our stay. All...the courses of the tasting menu were delicious, enhanced for us by the well chosen wine pairing. Paul works his magic in the kitchen and Liz is an excellent front of house host. Her explanations about the food and choice of wines added to our enjoyment. We agree with the previous 5* reviews and have no hesitation in recommending the Hare. Liz and Paul have created something unique and very special indeed.More

Just about perfect, really. Maximum of 12 covers in restaurant, four rooms to stay if you wish. A fixed tasting menu, with extensive wine list or wine pairing option. The room we had was lovely, and so was breakfast.

Six of us visited The Hare for a family celebration and from the start to the finish our experience could not have been any better. The 9 course tasting menu (plus a starter 'snack') was extremely imaginative, perfectly cooked and presented with great confidence. The...decor modern and the charming staff were attentive but never invasive. We all agreed that The Hare is exceptional and quite superb.More
