In February 2017, I took a trip to Portarlington on the Port Phillip ferry and planned to have lunch at the Grand Hotel. Inquiries revealed that the bistro was closed because of flood damage. However, it was quite OK to obtain food from elsewhere (choices very limited on a Tuesday in February at Portarlington!) and eat it at one of... More

The food and service is good at the Grand. Standard pub food. Basically what you'd expect at any local pub. However, it's looking quite tired inside and in need of an update.

This is a Beautiful old hotel but the food really let this place down. Both my friend and I ordered the good old pub standard chicken Parma and when it came out it was huge..,.but this was the most tasteless meal we've ever been served. My other friend ordered the vegetarian linguini and was brought the wrong meal, with mussels... More

Four of us had lunch here, food took 40 minutes to arrive. We had Spaghetti bolognais ( tasteless sauce) mussel linguini ( four mussels did not open, watery weak sauce) and grilled fish with salad ( very small portions of fish) We did complain and were told that all the dishes were very popular, the unopened mussels were normal, the... We had a wonderful day taking the Port Phillip ferry 10:00 am run from Melbourne's Docklands to Portarlington (Bellarine Peninsula, 1.5 hrs). A walk around booming Portarlington, then a magnificent outdoor bistro lunch at the Grand Hotel Portarlington. She had mussels in white wine, I had mussels Napoli. Fantastic! With a bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Back on the ferry... More

We visited Grand Hotel with a big group. Atmosphere was great. Service was fabulous. Food was average. Prices need to be revisited as the value for money was certainly not there. We had the seafood platter for one and the value, flavours was lacking with the money spent. Cost approx $30, with a thin piece of fried flake, 3 prawns... More

Beautiful building that we were keen to try out. Friendly waitress, drinks slow to arrive. Meals quick to arrive. Porterhouse steak was actually scotch. Needed seasoning and not quite cooked as ordered. Surf and turf was just steak with 3 prawns - pretty disappointing for $36. Chips were nice though! Probably wouldn't go back.

Just stopped in for a celebratory drink and we were made welcome by lovely bar staff. Previous meals have been great, the seafood in particular!

We enter the restaurant at 1:30 ish on Sunday the 11th Dec 2016, we were seated promptly, the attitude of the waitress was extremely poor, we were made to feel like we were not welcome, she was very short with us. The meals were appalling, the chicken strips with chips and salad was DREADFUL, the chicken was 3-5 mm thick... More

Fresh seafood. Beautifully cooked. Although we did wait a while for our order. The staff were very apologetic about the time we waited. It was worth the wait.
