Paid $19 for a tuna nicoise salad that I was assured did not use canned tuna. It came out with tasteless canned tuna; chef apologized; the cashier hadn't known they were out of real tuna and were using canned, so I ordered another salad of cauliflower and a deep fried egg. It was half the size; not even a main... More

We both had the best coffee and home made rhubarb tart. The staff is delightful and very friendly. The atmosphere is a lovely vintage look. We will go again if we are in the area. 😊

Stopped here on the way to Bendigo for breakfast and was very impressed and a little surprised to find this place in a smallish town. The food was delicious and the service very good. Would go here again.

On our way home to Melbourne from Castlemaine we ventured to Glenlyon, no joy, the General store was closed. On to Trentham, only to find most of it closed. We found ourselves at Woodend to see the Village Larder open for business, phew. This is a great find, your old kitchen tables and chairs as the decor matching the interesting... More

Since when did living in Melbourne automatically brand you an all knowing food and coffee critic !!!?? I've drank plenty of ordinary coffee on Melbourne and the village larder is far from ordinary. We enjoyed a Delicious falafel plate, a side of roasted potatoes and two large smooth full flavoured velvet coffees. We stopped here after a four hour bike... More

A 3-star rating for The Village Larder is a little tough as I'm comparing it to very good Melbourne cafes where coffee standards are high. Woodend is a cute town and seems to be doing a very nice job of becoming another Daylesford-type quality sojourn out of Melbourne. The Village Larder has a welcoming atmosphere with tall ceilings, quaint tables... More

Booking lunch for a few mates was easy and the staff were friendly over the phone. Parking spots were available close by... a real bonus. Our table was ready on arrival and the ambience was casual with a touch of country if not quirky. A mismatch of décor. Water was promptly offered and we were then settled. Our meals were... More

Upon the walk leader's recommendation, we headed to this cafe/restaurant before starting our bushwalk around Woodend. It's a good 5 mins walk from train station. Housed in old building, place is cosy & quite small so seating is understandably cramped. Pleasant atmosphere though & a typical nice country town eating place. I only had coffee which turned out so good.... More

Great coffee, muffins generally OK except tend to be dry and/or stale. Breakfast to die for and recommend the beetroot juice

Dropped in for lunch on a very cold rainy wintry day. The food was delicious. There is not a huge menu but all the dishes are interesting with a combo of flavours that really work. I had the Bagdad eggs, fried eggs presented on flat bread nestled on Beetroot relish, tangy yoghurt and parsley and mint. My husband had pork... More
