After looking for something different in Brownwood, The Turtle was perfect. The menu was diverse and the staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the hummus plate to start along with the mushroom soup. For dinner we had the Apricot stuffed pork loin, the rabbit and the sirloin strip. All came out excellent! The sides were also very well done. Crispy Brussels... More

Thank you so much for you comments. The stuffed pork is one of my personal favorites. It will be hard to let go of it when we switch to our spring menu. We look forward to your return. More

My friend and I had an excellent time at Turtle. We had dined at Ellerbe's in FW, Stamped 66,Smoke,and Bolsa in Dallas and did not expect that level of dining in Brownwood. Kudos to those good souls who fed us that sultry August night. We had an excellent dining expierience from appetizer to entree to gelato. We spoke with Mary... More

Thank you for the compliments. I have recalled with enjoyment your visit many times. Please remind me of the name of the time travel movie. I started to watch it but was called away and now I don't remember the title. We all look forward to your return. I have a new chef who is fantastic and an artist. More

Since Bubba left the food just hasn't been the same! We have continued to go back when invited by friends or family but we won't be going there on our own any longer.

We are very excited to announce that we have hired a new chef, Jim Miller from Dallas, Texas. Chef Miller moved here last week and is in the process of learning our kitchen and revamping the menu and dishes. He has over 30 years of fine dining experience in the Dallas area and South Carolina, Florida and New England. You... More

Food is usually good with a variety of dishes but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Even with a dinner for 2 costing well over $100.00 one has to pay for bread. The wine list is extremely expensive also. A group of girls ordered a bottle of Proseco (sp) at lunch and it was in the $70.00 range. I will not go there... More

We have something on our wine list for nearly every budget. I would like to see your receipt because there are NO bottles of prosecco on our wine list for $70. The lowest priced bottle is $20. and the highest priced bottle is $63. If you were charged $70.00 for any bottle of any sparkling wine here you were over... More

My husband and I dined here this evening. We were the first customers of the evening. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers came right away, but the drinks did not. We also ordered dinner. Other folks arrived and placed orders and when their drinks arrived quickly, we realized that our order wasn't coming. We flagged down our waiter, who... More

My wife had the Turtle Burger with Swiss cheese, Bibb lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise on our challah roll, which was very good, I had the Lobster roll, served on a round bun that was as dry as West Texas in July and as HARD, very little dressing, the lobster was over cooked, it was like eating rubber, and finally my wife... I am so sorry you did not enjoy your sandwich and wish you had sent it back for something else. We would have been happy to replace it. I understand our chef did talk to your wife about the recipe and you did not mention your displeasure at that time when we could have replaced it with something else. There... More

The Turtle is surprisingly upscale and fresh for a restaurant in Brownwood and you can definitely taste the extra care that is put into the dishes. I always ask for Morgan to be my server, he is great to consult about wine pairings and is the best waiter in the restaurant. Also don't miss the gelato, I've tried several different... More

A nice upgrade to other restaurants in town, while remaining friendly and comfortable for all tastes. Service was excellent, the food was delicious. I had the pecan crusted chicken and it was wonderful. Also has a separate Gelato bar, which we sampled and thought that was very good too.

Thank you for reviewing us on Trip Adviser. I personally use it when I travel to make dining decisions. Pecan crusted chicken is one of our signature dishes. We are proud to use San Saba pecans in this dish as this is the heart of the pecan growers in Texas. More

Description
Your destination for food prepared from locally available seasonal ingredients. Slow Food is also simply about taking the time to slow down and to enjoy life with family and friends.

We at The Turtle try to provide a place to relax and enjoy the conversation of your family and friends while celebrating the diversity of the earth's bounty. So, no TV!

We feel that the enjoyment of good food and conversation is essential for happiness. We are dedicated to the revival of the kitchen and the table as centers of pleasure, culture, and community. We advocate the return to conversation centered leisurely meals. We think a firm defense of quiet material pleasure is the only way to oppose the universal folly of Fast Life.

Our menu changes with the seasons in order to provide you with the freshest possible produce and a variety of taste experiences. We are making every effort to support local growers and encourage our customers to direct us to new sources.
