Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We dined here with friends over Easter. If you are ok with the rather brusque French style of service then you’ll be fine. After reading some of the negative reviews here, I would say that this place is very popular and very busy so it...may be that you catch a waiter on an off day. They do seem to work hard. The ‘manager’ seemed a bit exhausted as we hadn’t booked but they quickly found us a spot. We were nice to our waiter who warmed to us and we had a really enjoyable evening. Food was pretty good and the atmosphere was great.More

Recommended by our ski instructor, we went to book a table for later that day and were advised they don’t take bookings but if we turn up before 7pm it shouldn’t be a problem to seat 6 people. They were true to their word. The...children’s menu has salmon on, which was different to all the other restaurants we went to, so my son had that and ate it all. He followed it up with the chocolate mousse as part of the kids menu, and again he wolfed it down. They brought the kids meals out first, which was a nice touch. All four adults had steak in varying forms, and all said they were cooked perfectly (medium in France is more like our medium-rare in the UK). I had the Abondnace steak which was wrapped in bacon and topped with cheese and mushrooms. I had mash with mine, and we all received carrot purée, swede, and broccoli. All of which was delicious. The only slight negative was with the deserts: Turamasu was nice, but not made with “ladies fingers”, and the crème caramel was just okay. I had the Tarte Tatin with ice cream and it was very nice. Service was good, no complaints at all. We asked for wine recommendations and duly chose what was recommended - we weren’t disappointed, so good to know the staff know what they’re talking about. Full cost for two kids meals (main and desert), four adults (main and depart), and two bottles of wine, worked out at €390, so not cheap, but worth it. We liked it so much we went back again a few days later. That wasn’t the original plan, but we found most restaurants didn’t open until 7pm, and if you hadn’t booked a few days in advance then you weren’t getting in. The good things about this restaurant was that it was open, at a guess, from around 6pm (but could be earlier). Yes, you can’t book a table, but if you turn before 7pm then hopefully you won’t wait (we didn’t have to both times, arriving 6.30pm and 6.55pm).More

I want to put all the negative comments about this restaurant into context. I've been coming to Avoriaz for 20 years and eating out regularly. Fontaines Blanches is the only restaurant being run now by the same people who ran it 20 years ago. They...work so hard during the winter and summer seasons, and it is one of the few restaurants that often stay open during the off-season. I'm sure that Michel and his team produce more meals than any restaurant in Avoriaz, perhaps more than double the next biggest in terms of covers. I'm disappointed that they have moved to a no booking regime, and if I have guests I'd prefer to book somewhere else, rather than queue. However, I guess that Michel doesn't have to turn anyone away now as he did before, and the mere fact that there's always a queue is a testimony to the quality of the restaurant. In my experience the service is always fast and the food is consistently good. Don't let the bad reviews put you off. Oh, and if you like red wine, try the Corbieres, which is superb and reasonably priced.More

We have visited this restaurant a number of times and enjoyed it for the most part. Although the whole group hated the most recent visit. The waitress was extremely rude towards us. When taking our plates away she dropped one plate on the floor next...to one of the guests and just walked off, leaving it on the floor. Later on another waiter threw drinks into the bin (which was right next to one of the guests). The drinks splattered her clothes to which she received no apology for. Later on, a very rude waiter collected our plates, taking away the plates of the guests who were still eating! While at the table he decided to pass wind loudly and did not apologise! Overall wouldn’t visit again which is a shame as we used to enjoy itMore

Terrible Service. Was seated 40 mins before any waiter took an order. Drinks were in plastic cups. When i eventually ordered, i ordered a meat hot plate. This was €32 and when it come i immediately knew this was not what i ordered. I told...the rude waiter that this was not what i ordered and i showed him what i ordered and he said this was it, which it wasn’t. He refused to take the food back and change it. We decided to eat this as he was telling us that that was what we ordered and to sit down and eat it. Once we got the bill, we recieved a meal that cost €92 euro, being the most expensive meal on the menu. I confronted this rude waiter and he said that we ate it so we have to pay. Absolute disgrace, wouldn’t recommend. Food was unedible anorl.More

Incredibly hostile service, considering you’re in a resort that’s back bone is foreign custom, you should probably learn to be more friendly as this was the third time I had heard bad reviews from this venue even with what ‘seemed’ like the manager present. Still...nice pizza, just learn to be more accommodatingMore

Very good food. Friendly service. We had filet de boeuf, pizzas, salads, and we were all satisfied. During our current stay in Avoriaz, we went back a second time (we had eaten here a couple of times in the past, before the pandemic). It remains...a favorite in Avoriaz.More

Went for a family meal and was unfortunately waited by the big guy with glasses. Im descriptive because I want to call him out. He slapped down the cutlery and plates. We then didn’t see him until we’d finished the Raclette and were abused with...sarcasm asking if we wanted more. Once we left he made several comments about not leaving a tip.More

Food was ok - Fondue tasty, but bread stale. Our waiter was so rude. We paid on a credit card for 6 people and had 30 euros cash to leave as tip on way out (even tho he had not been very friendly ). He...told the person paying that he needed to add service , then slammed a plate down and said to one guest “thank you for the service - it was our pleasure !” . At this point we put the 30 euros back in our pocket. Really rude man. Would not recommend.More

Enjoyed two evening meals here during the first week in January. The resturant does not take reservations, so we arrived between 6.15 and 6.30 pm for an early evening meal. Only a short wait for a table one evening, but be prepared to wait outside...for a table as this is a busy resturant. The menu is varied with a good choice, we enjoyed cheese fondue, raclette and tartiflette between us and all were delicious and filling, so we didn't have space to test the desert menu although it was also extensive. Busy, friendly staff, working hard serving lots of tables and seeming to be keeping everyone happy. Well worth a visit if you are happy to eat early rather than risk a queue.More

This restaurant has chosen not to take reservations or bookings and its also chosen to make it look like they have never run a restaurant before. Its chaotic with moody staff and irate customers every night. The food is ok but massively overpriced even compared...to other restaurants in the resort. Refuge is much better and they allow you to book rather than making you queue for 30 or 40 minutes stood in their doorway or outside in the snow.More
