Casey's Caboose
Review
About
This imaginative restaurant, opened in 1981, is housed in a 35 ton circa 1900 railroad snowplow car that for years kept the snowdrifted tracks of New England clear and safe until is was sidelined by a derailment.Casey's Caboose takes it's name and cue from the Cannonball Express run by that famous engineer Casey Jones, whose locomotive was barrelling down the tracks in 1900 when a stalled freight train came into view. "JUMP! JUMP!" Casey ordered his crew, though he remained at the controls in an attempt to avoid disaster. Casey Jones met his own demise that day, but his legend lives on in our remarkable eatery. This is a restaurant the whole family will find fun because every bit of it is unexpected. You can dine in a raised observation deck where the engineer directed the train as it plowed the tracks or ask to be seated by the long bank of windows with a full view of Killington.

Casey's caboose is a warm, welcoming place. Portions are generous, and the Saturday night special of roast beef, is excellent. We go there especially for that. Service is very good and always pleasant. Unlike many restaurants around Killington, they take reservations - a very diner-friendly practice.

Just returned to Vermont and this was our choice for our first meal and we were not disappointed. Kayla our server was providing fantastic service throughout our meal, They have a great menu and specials and the prices are right on par with all other restaurants, Mrs. B had the trout dinner and I had a delicious (huge) Prime Rib.
Great atmosphere.

My dog and I were turned away at another restaurant with an outdoor patio but luckily found this spot on BringFido! The hostess was so sweet and accommodating to get us through a big party and up into the outdoor seating. We had multiple friendly servers stop by to say hi to my pup. Our server was Kassandra and helping her was Marianna. Kassandra made great recommendations and I had the Mac n cheese burger. The bacon though was super spicy and I joked I might need a glass of milk which she brought me anyway. Marianna gave us some local recommendations for lakes to see and a good breakfast spot. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and the food was delicious - the burger itself was juicy and the Vermont cheddar just made it even better! Two thumbs and also all 4 paws up for Casey’s :)

Went here based on the overall good reviews. The waitstaff was friendly but not very helpful (when asked about the style of a couple of beers listed on the chalkboard she stated that she didn't drink beer so she really didn't know - and she did seem at all interested in finding out). The hot pretzels were actually pretty good. The rest of the meal was really disappointing, however. The hamburger (their specialty) was tough and overcooked. It may be an expensive (touristy) area but if I am paying $19 for a burger I expect the meat to be halfway decent and for the thing to be cooked the way I ordered it. The fries were lukewarm. The french onion soup was inedible. The 'loaded' baked potato only had cheese on it and was overcooked. The fish and chips was way too greasy.

This is quite disappointing and we've discussed this with our group. I'm very sensitive to those that have not had a great experience as the vast majority of our guests really do. I am very sorry and have a range of excuses I'd love to throw out to you to somehow justify your time with us, but I think we are better than that.
Please contact me at the restaurant at your conveniene, 802-422-3795 so I can learn a bit more as well as offer a refund or a repeat visit on us! Michael

Onion soup, Mac and cheese were yummy. Rueben and burger of the moment was good. Prime rib was ok. Drinks were lacking, server never came back to ask if we wanted another round. Glad they gave us water when we 1st sat down or we pull have been drink less for the meal. The server took drink order and appetizer of onion soup, came back with drinks and soup. When we were done with onion soup he finally put the dinner in and we didn’t see him again for 33 minutes.

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. It's been quite the busy week so though it doesn't surprise me that your service was on the slow side, I'll need to reiterate our steps of service to the wait staff to prevent others from having a similar experience.
I do appreciate it!
Thanks

We had an excellent meal with meat lasagne, gobbler, spinach salad, Mac/cheese, carrot cake & pumpkin pie/ice cream served up the upper level of an authentic train caboose by an excellent, top-notch server Duffy. Definitely the best vibe in towb. Highly recommend for food, atmosphere and excellent service.

We had dinner last night and we had the most lovely and fun and also delicious experience. From our delicious food to our great waitress Cassandra was great. Also Noah was very polite and helpful and Mariana who was great letting us know about hikes and asking us about our food experience and desserts. Btw the desserts were great and Mariana told us they were all home made, we had 3. Our favorite was Godiva white chocolate tart.
Cassandra, Noah and Mariana made our experience even better. Going back today for dinner.

Mrs. B and I entered and were immediately seated. Sergei our server was right over to take our drink order and was quickly back to us. Mrs. B had the Fish & Chips (delicious, looked so good I had to take a taste), I had the full order of the best Mac & Cheese ever.
There was a large bus group, but, service was perfect throughout.
Stopped at the bar for an after dinner drink and Jorden the bartender made us some very good cocktails.
You can bring your dog with you and it can select food from the dog menu.

Four of went to the caboose because 1) we had a coupon and 2) the menu looked promising.
We were pleased. The burgers were cooked properly to order, the calamari with banana peppers were a delicious surprise, and it had a good tap list. Outdoor dining was also available but it was a chilly night when we were there.
Sevice was passable.

This is a really cute train themed restaurant. Our server was great and the service was fast. We both ordered burgers that were cooked exactly as we requested and were very good. If you choose to pay by credit card, you will be charged a $1.50 fee. Overall, highly recommend dining here.

Thanks so much for the great feedback! It's literally what we strive for each day.
We do give a discount for cash vs. credit cards at the point of sale which allows us to keep our prices down overall. As a small business, we really can't continue to absorb the fees that credit card companies are charging now. We like being transparent about this with our guests.
Thanks again!

I was a frequent flier at Casey's during ski seasons, spending 30 to 40 nights a season Apres ski. Always drinks and often food. Then there was Covid. I sat Covid out and finally returned 25 months later on March 13. After check in we went directly to Casey's. The faces were all different, but we were happy to be back. We had three Plow Cars and received a bill for $42 pre tax. $14 a pop???? The Foundry, Lookout, and Cascades are charging $10. I contacted the manager to see if there was a mistake. No mistake, this was the response I got."yes, I'm afraid you did catch us with our most recent price increase. It seems all of our expenses have increased these days including food, delivery fees, labor, credit card fees etc., leading
us to have to make decisions that we probably would not have made pre-covid. A little more background is that seafood/steak prices have gone up, but we don't want to price individual items accordingly so we've had to get creative so we don't have a food menu that is unsuitable to the average guest at Killington. Anyway, this forced us to look at our liquor in an attempt to stay relevant." I took this to mean I was subsidizing someone else's food and I'm not going to do that. We went elsewhere the next 4 nights. My lousy rating is based solely on the $4 increase on that drink. I know what goes into it, and I don't see how that price is justified. I'm not rating food, staff, or ambiance! I suggest asking the price of your drink before placing an order. We are sad that our "GO TO" place is no longer that. There are plenty of other places on the mountain.

Thank you for your feedback. We'll stand by our decision making regarding pricing. It's unfortunate that one could provide a public "one star" rating for a very small part of what we do at Casey's Caboose. At the very least, a measured response could have been more appropriate. You've also left out the comment that I made that I would be glad to personally purchase a Plow Car Smash for you on your next visit. How trivial that a place you say you have gone to for years, immediately becomes irrelevant beause you "know what goes in to a plow car smash"
There are lots of positives regarding Casey's Caboose and I invite you in once again for a Plow Car Smash on me!

Came in last week looking for the best burgers in Killington and found a shrunken menu with only one burger option. When we asked what happened we were told that Casey’s had been sold several weeks earlier and the menu was in transition. Still, given that we can get burgers anywhere on the access road, it seemed very strange that the new owner would reduce the burger options to just the basic hamburger. (No lamb burger, no salmon burger, etc.) Hope this gets changed back in a hurry. Anyway, we opted for the French Dip (ok) and the Fish Tacos (excellent). Hard to recommend Casey’s at the moment or give it more than 3 stars out of 5 with the menu and experience in flux.

Casey’s is my daughter’s favorite place to go for multiple reasons. The former caboose has cool decor and nooks and crannies that house cool little personal dining spaces. We always get the same super friendly waiter whose name is Duffy and makes us laugh a bunch. The food is delish, faves for us are the fish and chips with hunky cod, homemade pastrami Reuben on marble rye (to die) and the Halloumi Greek salad with Arugula. Also not to be missed are the homemade to order chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth. They take a while to make so order them while you are having dinner. Tonight we were also waited on by the manager Mike who was super welcoming and hooked us up with some absolutely mouth watering Bavarian hot pretzels with stone ground mustard and beer cheese, yum!!! We will always make Casey’s one of our dinner stops when visiting Killington!

First of all, this is the only restaurant in town open on Tuesday! We figured that out really fast and just after we arrived, a bus load of people did too.
They were super busy, but we still had food and drinks very quickly.
The alcoholic root beer floats were delicious. Mac and cheese- delicious. Chili dog- delicious.
Great experience! And we were totally stuffed too, portions were enormous.

We entered and were immediately seated (Make a reservation as this is the number one restaurant in Killington). we had two excellent Tanqueray Martini's to start. As busy as this restaurant is, they offer fantastic service. Mrs. B ordered the delicious, properly cooked Fish & Chips with French Fries that are delicious. I ordered the clam chowder, delicious, then the best Mac & Cheese I have ever had. I had the full plate, but, you can order the side dish too. You will not believe the great service, from start to finish. The entire staff is excellent, so, you can't single any one out.
