Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came here for dinner and good thing I went early (6p). They were super busy. Not surprising considering it was Saturday during ski season. Was sat relatively quickly. Server was very quick, efficient and friendly. My filet was a little over cooked (I asked for...medium), but it was still very good and not worth sending back. The mashed potatoes were fine, nothing extravagant or overly delightful. My wife's meal (fish) was good as well. Bacon wrapped scallops were very good though. The price of the meal was a little overblown for what you're getting. I get it though, they're the only show in town, so....it is what it is. However, the 3% fair server tax (or whatever it's called) is BS. They charge an automatic 3% tip. Huh? what's up with that. Just know about it before you go blindly handing your CC over to the waiter and then proceed to tip your usual amount.More

My husband and I come here often. Not only does Sam’s have great food, they’re typically open longer and later than most other establishments. Additionally, both Tracy and Anne are amazing bartenders. Both have welcoming, pleasant banter and hustle their buns off to provide exceptional...service to everyone.More

We enjoyed a great dinner at this restaurant to celebrate new year’s eve. We liked it so much that we also went there at our last day in the area. The menu has great steak and seafood choices with many appetizers and salads that all...look very delicious. Our food came with great presentation and tasted really good. Service is friendly. The ambience is relatively casual, but still fine dining and comfortable. It is a bit pricey but I still recommend this place.More

We placed our orders at 645pm and waited 2.5 hrs until our food arrived. Every table was waiting and complaining. We only got bread at 2hours after complaining. Then my ribeye finally came out so black that it was beyond well done when I ordered...it medium rare. They forgot my friends fries and my son's baked potato. It was a painful experience. Then they already added 20% tip to the bill so we had no recourse for bad service. They also added a 3% "wellness charge" despite no one wore masks nor checked temperatures.More

We have been to Sam's several times. The food is always good and service was excellent. They were busier than usual per our waiter yet they were still able to get the food served timely and well prepared.

We've been to Sam's over a dozen times in the past several years. It was always our go to for birthdays and family reunions in town. It's changed, we're never going back. We had a table for 6 on the weekend during foliage, it was...busy, but nothing different than other times we've been. We were seated after a quick 15 minute wait and the waitress took our order. 6 dinners, a round of drinks, no apps, no special requests, and then we waited and waited and waited and waited. We sat there for almost 2 hours. The waitress came by once and apologized for the delay but we never saw the manager. All the tables in our section except one turned over and were vacant, still we waited. At one point I walked my son outside, 2/3 of the restaurant was now empty but still we had no food. We told the waitress it wasn't her fault, but by the time our food arrived her hands were shaking and she looked like she wanted to cry. We never saw the manager, they used to make the rounds with everyone and check in, guess they don't do that anymore. I finally requested to speak with her after we paid, she was mildly apologetic and said they were having kitchen issues, but the fact that she had no idea of our situation is a bigger problem than us waiting. I'm a nobody, I'm not important, but I have worked in restaurants for over a decade; I know the manager needs to make sure the customers are enjoying themselves. If there's a wait, she needs to be the person sharing the news, not the frustrated waitress. If I'm going to spend steak house money for a special dinner, we should get steak house service. Sam's used to offer that experience. No longer. The food was still delicious but don't expect it before sunrise.More

There were eight adults in our party. (There were only 3 cars in the parking lot, so not busy.) After being seated, it took 20 minutes for someone to come back to ask what we wanted to drink and then another 15 to get drinks...and order food. After waiting an hour we got our food, which was just okay, nothing to brag about. My grilled chicken wasn't seasoned and the grilled vegetables (serving was really small and was $9.00) weren't any better. My 15 yr. old grandson got a steak and even he said we should have gone somewhere else. I do not recommend and will not return.More

I just left this place after 2 and 1/2 hours. We placed our orders and waited fully an hour and a half before we learned that they were having a problem with their computers so the kitchen sous chefs were having difficulty reading them. The...wait staff had to manually print out each order before the meal prep could begin. No explanation was given as to what the delay was until we bothered to ask the waiter. It seems like he had a lot of work writing all of these orders up. When I questioned the manager, I was told that there was no supervising chef available just the sous chefs. It seems the owner has multiple restaurants in town and can’t be bothered with this one. I have been eating at this place for over 30 years and have seen it change hands and names during that time. It has always been a wonderful experience but after tonight, I will be letting everyone I know to avoid like Covid-19. There was no courtesy given by the staff to let you know there was a problem unless you asked them. Poor customer service is something that will kill a business. So long Sam’s! P.S. I will attach a picture of the poor excuse for chicken breast which was served to one in our party.More

the food was excellent (Cesar salad with grilled chicken, NY Strip with field greens, apple pie and one of the best Old Fashioned I've had in a long time). Be aware though, Slow is the new normal, due to lack of staff. This is not...the restaurant's fault, as every facility I visited in Ludlow (and southern VT) is suffering from lack of help. So be patient with the staff that does show up to work. But do visit Sam's for a very satisfying meal.More

My husband and I have always loved Sam's and then we heard new management and a award winning chef named Andrew overseeing things we got excited to bring a few friends. Now last winter they were always short staffed but things were still at par...and food was great, now this visit service was just horrible waitress didn't seemed trained at all, we had a few questions and no supervisor or anyone to help in the building on a weekend? Service just didnt flow, servers were definitely stressed and we over heard a lot of things we shouldn't have but the servers sounded like they had legit complaints about management:(. We asked the waitress about the new chef apperently she has never seen him in the building and after eating the food its obvious there is not a highly skilled chef in the kitchen or anywhere near, the food was nothing special and it was way overpriced for what it was. Needless to say we were disappointed. My husband felt so bad for the wait staff after being a gm for years, you need to support your staff and build them up, not tear them down. Can't say will be back any time soon, hopefully management will change or learn some new skills to be able to effectively manage and run a restaurant.More

The service was very good. Asked about the $54 Wagyu beef special. The waitress said it was domestically grown beef, but also mentioned "Kobe beef" in her description. I've had Kobe beef so decided to go for broke. At the very best, I would describe...it as "chewy" - a Japanese diner would have been mortified.More

Took the family here for birthday dinners. The place was busy and service mediocre but we expected that. When our orders arrived the complaints started. The filet mignon was undercooked, the king crab legs were overcooked (dry and chewy), the chicken fettuccine was dry and...inedible (we asked for more sauce but it tasted like soap). I went to the website and wrote to the manager twice and didn't receive a response. My partner wrote and received a response (we'll get back to you), that was 2 weeks ago. As far as I am concerned it was $400 down the drain and I won't be returning.More

We came in with couple friends for dinner one night during our snowboard trip at Okemo. Decent food, friendly staffs and comfortable environment. For appetizer we had the Baked French Onion Soup Crock, Wagyu Short-rib Egg Rolls and Baked Stuffed Mushroom Caps. For entrees, I...had the delicious Baked Sea Scallops, Baked Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp was just so-so. On the meat we tried the Sam’s Cut Roast Prime Rib which was REALLY good, and the 20 days dry-aged Bone-In Ribeye was alright. Overall pretty decent foodMore

We went yo this restaurant for the first time because I wanted to experience the quality and flavor of a 28 day aged rib eye steak. While the steak was good, it was like a regular piece of steak in flavor and tenderness. It certainly...was not worth the increased cost. My friends steak was a NY Sirloin and was bigger, tastier and more tender than my expensive piece of rib eye. Service was great and the quantity sufficient. I will go back but I will not be purchasing any aged beefMore
