We got our burgers to go this time; usually eat outdoors up on the hill; they do take credit cards; menu looks a bit trimmed down from last year (2021). BUT, be aware, they now close at 8pm!

We found this place by accident while driving to Rutland after visiting Wilson Castle. We weren't expecting much--maybe some greasy burgers and limp French fries--because it looks like any number of little places one sees in small towns, but it was busy, and we were...hungry, and on a Monday when it seems like every restaurant is closed, we decided to try it. It has a surprisingly large menu, but we stuck to basics--a foot long chili dog, french fries, and a BLT, all of which were really tasty. We did have to wait a while for our number to be called for pick-up, but given what we received, the wait was understandable. The hot dog was more like a sausage, the bun fresh, the chili looked homemade, and the cheese not out of a squeeze bottle. The french fries were fresh and perfect--crispy outside, soft inside. The BLT had a healthy portion of thick cut smoked bacon, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, and a dollop of mayo on perfectly toasted bread. We can't speak to the rest of the menu, but the other food we saw looked just as good as ours. We opted to eat in the covered area, which is open air. There are two toilet rooms there, which are definitely not wheelchair accessible. There's also exposed outdoor seating at picnic tables as well. We'd recommend this place for a quick bite. Your mileage may vary, but we were satisfied and will come back next time we're in the area.More
This used to be "the place to go". But, now it is not as good at all. The food isn't as good. The creemees aren't the way I like them. We don't go there anymore. Try Ice House in Castleton or the Tinmouth Snack Bar.
This was our second visit here while visiting family. We got ice cream the first time and it was good and reasonably priced. We came for lunch this time and were shocked at how much we had to pay for carry out food. Lunch for...three of us was over $60! Quesadillas had an extra charge if you added anything to a basic quesadilla. The serving sizes were nice at least. We did like the covered seating area as an option to the outdoor picnic tables. We'll be back for ice cream but not for a meal.More
Terrible quality food and high prices. I prefer other local food trucks, you get a lot more product at a lower price. Also the facility are always dirty here.
You should be ashamed of the food you serve. I not only was served really bad tasting food but it was cold!!!! Spending your money elsewhere would be a wise choice in my opinion. What was pretty great before is now beyond bad, but maybe...the owner isn’t on the property supervising the staff. Cashier was great but execution of the order wasn’t good, had to return multiple times because of missing things. Will not be back thank you but no thank you.More
I tried it never again soggy bun cold hot dog I waited 30 minutes for. Too bad old cooks that actually knew how to cook aren't there anymore.
Both of us felt the same way about tonights experience. The food wasn't very good and we both experienced upset stomachs. My chocolate milkshake tasted more like chocolate milk. Where was the ice cream?? We won't return.
No frills snack food here. We enjoyed our fried mushrooms, onion rings, French fries, and fried pickles. Root beer float was excellent. Pleasant seating area with picnic tables (clean, well kept) out back. Stopped here as a mid-way point during a long bike ride, so...it’s possible that anything would have tasted good, but we enjoyed it all.More
COVID19 has made the wait a bit longer but like anything else "worth the wait" the reward far out ways that minor dilema :). They serve Gifford's Ice Cream ;).More
Thanks so much for the review, We appreciate it. One correction is we now serve Wilcox Dairy ice cream which is a 6th generation Vermont company. Nothing against Gifford's, they make great ice cream but they are Maine based. We are supporting as many Vermont...More
Very sad to see the old staff are out of a job. Good luck with zero experience I wont be a customer . 😡😡. Wont be eating there ever againMore
Totally false information. 95% of our 2020 staff are 3-4-5 year veterans of the Village Snack Bar. Might want to get your facts straight before bashing a 38 year old iconic Rutland establishment. We would gladly invite you over for a meet & greet with...More
Restaurants are few and far betweeen. This place had great food and a nice place to sit indoors to eat.
We had whole belly clam rolls last evening. I think they forgot the clams and just gave us fried dough! It was horrid!
I had a wonderful time with me friends, thank you so much for the food and for your company 👍😎😎😎
Best ice cream/ snack bar style food for the area. Food is decent. I havnt tried a whole lot. But they have a decent size menu, The only thing i would suggest to managment would be more consistancy on the soft serve ice cream sizing....Some times you go and you order a large and it comes out one way. The next time its different. Also seems to be leaning most of the time. Not enough for me to complain. But something that would make their product more consistent.More
