While visiting Charlottesville Downtown Mall we stopped and had lunch at Whiskey Jar. My son in law loved the Catfish, the fried chicken was very good also. Service was good, but a tad slow, we weren't in a hurry though.

Yummy local food but without the pretension, relaxed atmosphere, right on the Downtown Mall - Whiskey Jar is a gem.

Love sitting outside and watching the crowds on the mall while listening to terrific music. Tonight (5/19/15) the bluegrass band was excellent.

The food was eclectic with a great selection for all tastes. Service was quick but not rushed with live music that wasn't too loud. Too polish off the evening a large menu of whiskeys. Thoroughly recommended.

We stopped in at The Whiskey Jar on Friday night after wandering through the Charlottesville downtown mall. We were greeted (by a very friendly lady), and we were given a seat outside. Our server was terrible. She took a long time to take our drink order. Then stopped by (15 minutes later) with drinks, and asked, "Are you going to... More

We came to the Whiskey Jar specifically because we wanted something a little different than the standard fine dining or burgers and to hear some great music. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent -- I had the fried chicken -- my husband the a pulled hickory pork sandwich with peppers and onions. We both had the thick cut fries.... More

We specifically came to Whiskey Jar because they offered "whiskey flights", 3-1oz samples, so I could introduce my friend to bourbon. I was informed that rules had changed and we only got 2 whiskeys. Bummer! But, good selection, atmosphere, and good food.

The cocktails were great and most of the food was very good; the service was ok, not great. Our waitress seemed cranky and not particularly friendly, especially when it came to handling a problem. A smile and some enthusiasm go a long way. Great poutine!!! The fried oysters were also very nice. The fried chicken dinner was a mixed bag---... More

My wife and I visited on a Friday evening. Got there just in time for a seat at the bar. Great selection of whiskey especially for VA where liqour is state run. They even have Pappy 20 year old but a little expensive for a pour. I had the BBQ sandwich which was excellent. My wife had the pork chop... More
