Our party of 6 arrived early on a Saturday without reservations. The place was almost completely empty. However, the hostesses stated no large parties would be seated because it was going to get busy in an hour. Essentially, they were turning down business, and in the process, making us feel we were completely unwelcome. After stating we should be done... More

Let me just say I would've given 5 stars if not for one person. Had I judged the restaurant by the hostess, we would've turned around and left. Not friendly at all. I, almost, wanted to apologize for ruining her day by showing up. That being said, the food was great and waitress very nice. I had the Chesapeake benny.... More

Went recently for restaurant week. Enjoyed the selections that we had… The flavors were interesting and the dishes were well prepared. Just be forewarned, the Samosa appetizers are quite hot! The chutney, which I assume is made in house, was really delicious. Definitely worth a try for something different

My husband and I have eaten at Shebeen a number of times in the past; it was my mother-in-law's favorite restaurant and we have always enjoyed our meals there. She is no longer with us, but we decided to raise a glass to her at Shebeen's over dinner. Our salads were excellent; everything else was not. The bobotie was quite... More

Enjoyed our food- fish and chips and Durban spiced chicken. Delicious! We cleaned our plates. But, service was a bit slow. Could have been kitchen but even when we paid, it took longer than needed. Nonetheless we enjoyed the meal and I'd still recommend. Only other complaint, no Savanna Dry- a South Africa staple!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! It's my go-to brunch spot -- try the Hogwaller or Shrimp & Grits with a raspberry mimosa or a made-to-order Bloody Mary -- and my favorite dinner spot as well! I could eat the Ginger Salmon with pub veggies and mealie pap, Peri Peri Chicken and Durban Chicken on repeat for the rest of... More

Came for brunch during a visit to Charlottesville. I ordered the corned beef hash and my boyfriend ordered the French toast. We were both very unimpressed. My food was also very bland. Don't recommend it.

I'm truly disappointed to hear our flavors left you feeling underwhelmed. We usually receive rave reviews, so I can't help but wonder if you and your boyfriend caught us on an off day. In any case, I'm confident we can do better, so whether it's for brunch or a more traditional dinner, I hope you both can give us a... More

Went on a Saturday night. I and the waitress had trouble finding where the side orders were on the many page menu (which describes all the wines etc.) Calamari was quite tough and chewy. Not worth the price. Food is interesting but not very well prepared. French fries soggy. There are better places. Avoid the noisy Friday night crowd at... More

Dont miss the Green Eggs and Hammies (South African twist on eggs benedict) or the stuffed french toast. Coffee can be hit or miss, but the food never disappoints and one of the rare places that nails the consistency of poached eggs every time.
