The food was good and service was descent. A bit of a let down compared with Villa Bordoni but probably not a fair comparison. In my mind not special enough to return. They did a good job for my vegan wife.

We have eaten in La Castellana 2 nights and this restaurant once. In summary I would always prefer La Castelllana. Why:- - Castellana is frequented by locals -50%+ of the diners - always a good sign to me. Gallo Nero was full of tourists -...More

Came to dinner because of trip advisor recommendation. Very nice staff and atmosphere. Service was quick enough to not make us wait, and slow enough to make us anticipate the next dish:) As an apetizer we had the mixed bread with different toppings - it...More

I am glad I convinced the other couples to visit Gallo Nero (and so are they). We had several bottles og excellent wines recommended by the waiters who knew their wines. The lunch was magnificent and we did not leave until they closed! Go to...More

We came here without a booking and luckily got a table. The interior is beautiful! Service a little slow but maybe because they were busy. The food was absolutely incredible, I've had nothing like it here in Italy, the quality of the meat was beyond...More

From the recommendation at Castello di Verrazano, we had the most unbelievable dinner at Gallo Nero. Eggplant appetizer was to die for, thinly grilled and layered with mazzarella, tomatoes, basil, repeat. Onion soup was a leak creamed version and dinners of filet and beef melted...More

After sampling the Pizza recommended through trip advisor site we went to this restaurant the next. The pasta was as good as the previous nights pizzas. Not too expensive.

4 of us had an excellent experience last evening at Gallo Nero. We arrived around 7 and we fortunate to be seated without a reservation. Service was attentive without being over powering and we all enjoyed our meals from sea bass, steak with truffles, and...More

Risotto was ok but pasta with wild boa sauce was good. The 2011 Chianti Classico riserva Chioccioli was showing beginning maturity and drinking well. A nice wine for 40 €. Service could be better: Cutlery was misplaced, when water arrived it was just put on...More

The interior is rather modern and for my taste not so stylish. But the quality of the food is excellent. Italian cuisine at its best!

In the heart of Greve in Chianti, on the corner that leads into the square, where there was once an old staging post and, earlier still, the stables of Greve, there is still a peaceful and private place that’s well worth stopping by for a bite to eat. This has been the kingdom of Lucia, Duilia, Lisa, Saro for 33 years: a Tuscan family, three generations at the service of your taste buds, giving you a warm welcome. Lovely people with open and jovial smiles who only want to offer you healthy, genuine and no-frills food in light and welcoming rooms, where the Pompeian red dominates the walls in contrast with the white wood of the chairs and covers. It’s impossible not to start by enjoying one of the wonderful pasta dishes - all of which are strictly based on homemade pasta, every day like in the past, by grandmother Duilia, 85 years of freshness and energy, who, with her fail-safe method, states that all her pasta dishes are successful since nothing ever comes back into the kitchen! Filled pasta, tagliatelle and pappardelle also served with innovative sauces, but all thoroughly researched to enhance the pasta and authentic flavours of Greve. There’s an infinite choice, But the Enoteca Ristorante Il Gallo Nero, which started off with its two pillars - pasta and grilled meats - now offers much more. A reliable place where you eat well and everything at any time of the year since the menus here change with the seasons and the ingredients have no food miles. To finish, saving the best for last, it’s time for dessert, obviously all homemade. Delicious desserts to send the guests off home with a great memory of a lovely evening, washed down with a nice glass of wine perhaps as we shouldn’t forget that the cellar of Il Gallo Nero only contains great Chianti and Tuscan wines! A great dinner for everyone in this place where the hospitality and prices are like trattorias of the past, yet with the selection of culinary excellence worthy of a hip restaurant. A 100% successful marriage of two philosophies and an example that quality always pays, even at difficult times.
