We visited this restaurant twice - first visit was great, with lowely waiter, good food and drinks. If it would have been the same second time, this review would have been 5 stars, but unfortunately we had another waiter in the middle of the saturday...rush… Food and drinks were good anyway 😊More

Because the food was so good at Taberninha do Manel we ate there three times during our Porto City break. The welcome was so genuine and friendly, the <mostly Portuguese> menu was varied and very reasonably priced, great location (beside Calem) and panoramic views too....Can't recommend it highly enough. *****More

I can't say too much about our server. She helped through the menu and brought our food out in a timely manner, not all at once. Though in a tourist area, we did not feel rushed. We especially liked the cheese we orders. Our server...told us and wrote down where we might find it. I might add that I would go back for the veal cheeks.More

We had a wonderful meal here our first night in Porto. We ordered the bacalau croquets, suckling pig empanadas, the octopus in green sauce, and the bean and mushroom stew. Everything was super delicious. The suckling pig empanada being a special stand-out, as was the...octopus, the most tender I've ever had. There is beautiful outdoor seating with a great view of Porto, and the inside was cute too. We also got a bottle of Douro red, which was really good for 16 euros. In fact the whole meal was amazing value for 54 euros. I could eat here every day!More

We found this restaurant after wandering along the riverside. The owner (I think Andreas?) was outside fantastically organising people as they arrived. We had to wait around 30mins for a table but waited along the neatly prepared row of chairs whilst watching the sunset and...giving Andreas gorgeous dog plenty of cuddles as she paraded around looking for some attention. The food was delicious and the service attentive and friendly especially considering how busy it was. Beautiful views out over Porto! To top it off we met the owner again the following night and he remembered us by name and apologised for us having to wait (which we hadn’t minded at all) and so very kindly got us a drink. You can’t get much better customer service than that. Definitely worth a try when in Porto.More

Went here with friends while on holidays. The food is amazing. Extremely good wine selection, and the view awwww the view, superb. Is a busy place, but the wait was well worthed. The only small detail that caused my 4star rating is the customer service....Is good but not excellent. I know that is really hard to find staff, but the one existent and working should be able to feel free to give customer service, and management should promote that and not ask staff to move away from providing good service to a table. While there I could notice a young waiter having a small chat with a table to what a manager told him: ."...the more you guys chat with customers the less I make and the less I can give you..." That for me was a rude thing to stay to a staff member not also taking into consideration that other than food you need good customer service to have a good business. That made me think that is just money money money. Customer in customer out...nothing else is important.. definitely not a way of give good image from the place as word of mouth spread quick and bad reviews make more impact than good reviews. Funny thing the same person that told the waiter not to be chatting with customers was having the time of his life later with another table..."do as I say don't do as I do" sound appropriate for this specific situation. Other than that no issues at all and definitely will come back. Just a small advice. National staff or not you should keep and train the ones you have and treat them fairly and equally. Staff is really hard to find in these days no matter if Portugal or any other country..is up to management to train them.More

Went for lunch. Amazing place for atmosphere and the view of Porto. Had a francesinha which was larger than expected but very tasty. Good friendly service and plenty of shade. Worth a visit.

We couldn't get enough of this place. We came here 3 times during our 3 nights in Porto. The best sangria and grilled octopus in Portugal. Ask Georghino for the tapas and he'll recommend the best!

On a previous evening, we had noticed a queue at this restaurant, so were pleasantly surprised to arrive at a moment when we could be offered an outdoors table, even near a heater! The bulhao pato clams and the simply grilled fish of the day...were both fresh and tasty. This is simple Portuguese food, well prepared. To sip a delicious red Douro wine, watching the evening lights twinkling over the Douro, made for a wonderful evening.More

The restaurante doesn’t take reservations so on busy days you have to wait for your turn. We went Saturday night waited 20 mins outside in the cold, and a friend of the owner arrived and went in front of everyone that was waiting outside. Confronted...the owner, he denied and lied in my face. Don’t think that is a way of treating customers . Is mainly his loss as we just lived to this area and could become is regular customers….not anymore!More

Delicious food, great drinks, pretty expensive. But that’s probably for the view and the easy access from the port houses. The cheese and honey was delicious and the ovos rotos were my favorite!

I just returned from a trip to Porto, staying in Vila Nova de Gaia (to facilitate tasting, drinking and buying port wine). Taberninha Do Manel was recommended to me by my hotel as good Portuguese food, not "touristy food." It was truly the best meal...I had in Porto or Gaia. It was also, pretty much, the only restaurant on the river front that was always full. The staff were nice and the pace was relaxed. I ate outside and had two orders of the empanadas: the beef and the suckling pig. They were definitely the best I've ever had. My favorite were the beef but the pig was also quite good! They were hot, tasty, and the fried pastry shell was delicious. I had a glass of 10-year-old port, as an after dinner drink and when I asked for the check, I was also given another small glass of port, on the house. All for about 15 EU. All staff wore masks both outside and inside, though I never went inside.More

Was way too salty. Not only the main dish but also the French fries. Could feel the salt crystals. Would not recommend. Maybe for a drink. Too expensive for wat you get.

I would recommend you STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT. Our aparthotel recommended the place, but we were completely disappointed with the service received. One of the waiters was utterly rude when I couldn´t understand him and asked him to repeat what he had just said....Even though I speak Portuguese and English, I could not understand his strong accent, both in English or Portuguese. Because I politely asked him to repeat what he had said, he replied with a very bitter tone and had the vulgarity to come and argue with me after I told his colleague we were not going to eat there anymore because we did not like the way he treated us. When we went to other 2 diferent places and I mentioned our experience at Taberninha do Manel, the staff were not surprised and confirmed that this waiter in particular has had problems with customer service in the past in more than occasion and has "fame" in the area. That happened in 2 different places. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to try the food, but I would never eat in a place that has such a rude waiter.More

Usually in Portugal at 19:00, but I think you don't need a reservation, just seat and wait to be served.
