Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ate here two times during my last stay in Porto, and both meals were fantastic. Everyone from the hostess to the servers to the chefs to the bartenders are top notch and do their best to make sure you have a wonderful dining experience. And...if you sit outside, you can't beat the views of Porto lit up at night from the Gaia side of the riverMore

One of a number of busy restaurants in the main tourist area of Gaia alongside the river, it has both inside and outside seating. It has a lovely location for viewing Porto old town across the river. Service and food all good, we had broken...egg, garlic prawns and tempura beans which were excellent.More

After reading the good reviews on trip advisor about this restaurant we thought we would eat our evening meal here. We were given a table inside upstairs as it was so busy. Although a small area it had a lovely traditional feel to it. The...waiters all seemed friendly and welcoming. There was quite a selection of local wines and we were very pleased with the quality of the bottle we chose. Unfortunately the meal was a bit of a let down. Many of the good reviews of the food were for the various fish dishes and as I was dining with two people who preferred meat we all decided to have the Steak. Unfortunately with two of the dishes the steak was very fatty and under the steak on one of the plates was the till print out of the food order for the chef. Whilst the waiter was apologetic it did spoil what we hoped was going to be a good evening.More

Great view of Porto and food quality was great. Service was fantastic with very friendly and bilingual service staff. Located on the Gaia river walk and easily accessible to many attractions after your Porto wine tour.

Normally eat dinner on the Porto side of the river- but thought we’d have a change. Great atmosphere, great service, and most importantly, delicious food. Small casserole with seafood rice was unbelievably good. Our new fave place. Very very very highly recommended.

Restaurant on waterfront in Gaia. Was quite busy and had several different people helping us. Wanted a light lunch and ordered two appetizers and two drinks. Order was placed incorrectly and we waited a very long time. Porto tonic was good. Food was just okay.... It seemed that no one was paying attention to us.More

After enjoying a cellar tour with drinks and Fado show, we wandered past the bars and restaurants on the side of the river enjoying the views and managed to get a table at this authentic tapas restaurant. It offers so much choice and everything is...served on local pottery. Everything we ordered tasted delicious and arrived in stages so you had the chance to savour everything. The portion sizes are large so be aware of that when ordering. A fabulous place for food!!More

A nice, touristy restaurant on the south side of the river quite close to where the port tours let out. Terrace space out front and two levels inside with a pleasing décor that’s heavy on the wood. We were a party of twelve at lunch...in September with all of us ordering different things, but service was quick and efficient. There were no complaints from anyone. My wife is celiac and while there were not a lot of options, there were choices. She had cod as the catch of the day and found it pleasant, but the salad of the day was quite salty. I had francesinha (without the egg on top) and it was delicious. Sauce was flavourful with different aspects to it, pork was quite tasty and substantial, and the accompanying fries were good as well. To note that this traditional Porto dish is quite heavy but worth the effort. All round a nice place to stop after the port tour.More

Excellent codfish with spinach and oven-potatos and grilled octapus again with spinach and oven-potatos. Very nice marinated and very soft. If we had to rate these 2 dishes, we would give 10 out of 10. A tasty green salad, too. The service was fast and...the staff was polite. 1 couvert, 1 starter, 2 main dishes, 2 beers for 68 euros. Very good price for the quality and quantity they offer. The place is in a very good area by the river.More

The Taberninha is one of many restaurants and eating options on the Cais do Gaia side of the Douro River. From the Ribeira you can take a boat shuttle or just walk across the spectacular Ponte Luis I bridge and turn right. While there is...indoor seating, the seating out front has a great view and good people watching. The staff was very friendly, many with good English skills, while our Portuguese is poor. Lots of choices on the menu but we just wanted something light and settled for great salad and fries with excellent wine choices. We did notice the diners at surrounding tables were cleaning their plates! This is also the side of the river with many of the port winery tasting rooms.More

Right on the bank of the river with plenty of outside seating. The service was very friendly from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, I had the traditional sandwich, my husband had the steak and my son had empanadas. All arrived hot, decent...portions and delicious. I would definitely recommend.More

Cais de Gaia is a wonderful Promenade. Nice views, lots of tasting rooms and lots of restaurants. We had lunch here and it was really delicious. Took a table outside where our Bulldog was welcome as well. Had some bread and goats butter for starters....Also some very good olives. The Polvo Assado (grilled octopus) and baked Bacalhau casserole for mains. Both excellent dishes. Octopus was grilled to perfection, fresh, tender. Really nice meals. Had a bottle of good white wine with the meal. After the meal we went for two flights of Porto. The "Pack Taberninha" for 18 Euros and the "Pack Porto Prestige" for 28 Euros. There is also the "Pack Port 120 Years" which is all Tawny Port. Good Port, but since we know Tawny well, we didn't go for that one. Our two flights were wonderful. A real discovery was the 10 and 20 Year old White Porto "Dona Antonia" from "Ferreira". Divine. Also the "Ruby Reserve Organic" from "Fonseca" was excellent. A young Porto, somwhere between a heavy wine and Porto. Great for some warmer days I'd say. We had a great time here. Staff was amazing. Friendly, helpful. Made us feel very welcome. A nice place to get some good meals. Or to have some Porto and/or wine.More

There was a line to get in, and clearly it was justified! We had outside seating for our group of 4, and I had the wild shrimp in broth, which was wonderful. We also had crab salad and one of their sheep cheese boards. The...meal was excellent and the service was very friendly and attentive.More
