Once we landed in Porto, we asked our driver for a good place to eat. He didn't hesitate when suggesting Taberninha do Manel. We tried revolves and hand made fig bread which was fantastic. The house red wine, 2002 red blend was fruit, flavorful, and spot on for price. I had the baccaulo a brasas which was very good with the combined cod, potatoes egg, onions, and olives. The Francesinha beef sandwich was well cooked and flavorful. Drinks were reasonably-priced and our waiter smiled the whole time. We're only here for another day or we would be heading back tomorrow! Give then a try...

This is the place to experience Portuguese food! We had the fresh fish of the day (hake) with roasted potatoes and creamed spinach. Excellent! Fish so tender. We shared a dessert.. the triple chocolate mousse-like dessert. The desserts are all in glass canning jars. A full bodied wine and to complete the evening a complimentary port from our server Rueben who couldn’t have been more accommodating in guiding us on our first experience eating Portuguese cuisine. The inside atmosphere is full of old relics from past times that gave you a nostalgic feeling ie. An old typewriter, sewing machine, French horn, bugle etc. We hope to go there again after our trip around Europe and head back home. Thank you for the excellent service!

We were eating on a Friday at noon, because we liked the menu we saw. The truth is that it was great that we went with a large dog, they gave us water for him and there were no problems. We ordered the cod croquettes/cake, the clams and the pork cheeks, for dessert the Marías biscuit mousse. Everything was exquisite, especially the cheek, the super tender meat. To say a negative point, the glass of port cost 5 euros, we ordered a ruby as an aperitif and I have to say that it was very delicious. Recommended place and if we return to the area we will surely eat there again. Martha.

We tried to have dinner at this place but it was impossible, after sitting down we were solemnly ignored by the attendants. When we finally got attention, we ordered fish from the garden (bathed in a lot of oil), cod fritters (good) and a basket of cornbread with goat butter (the best thing). The idea was to start with these starters and keep ordering, but unfortunately we were no longer served. The waiters seemed like they were doing us a favor. Okay, if you don't know how to respond, don't work with it! We asked for pepper to put on the cupcake for one of them, we were simply ignored! The fish from the garden came dripping with oil, I'm feeling bad so far... I wouldn't recommend this place even to my worst enemy, I hate making this kind of criticism, but I felt terrible about what happened to us. To top it off, we asked for the bill, but after about 15 minutes it never arrived!!! I felt like getting up and leaving without paying. I had to go to the cashier to finally pay. Disappointed with this place, I hope they improve.

Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia (side of the river where the cellars are), inside not very large all in wood and a somewhat larger terrace. Not very large menu of typical Portuguese dishes with hearty portions and good service. The food is fine without surprising too much, the quality-price is fine and has very long hours making it a good improvised option.

I recently visited this restaurant with a group of friends while we were enjoying a weekend break in Porto. While the food was pretty decent (somewhat overpriced but we accepted that given the riverside location) the experience was unpleasant due to an extremely rude waiter. He was patronising and aggressive. Here’s just some of the receipts: 1) he yelled at my friend for picking up the coke he placed on the table beside her as apparently “you only drink from your right side” so that coke wasn’t for her: 2) he barked at my friend to move her phone; 3) one of my friends is allergic to chives and was checking with the waiter that her dish didn’t include them - she had translated the word on her phone to help communicate that dietary requirement. He just glared at her and said “I speak 7 languages” yet never answered the question - just snatched the menu from her hands and walked off: 4) after being rude the entire time he had the audacity to tell us (twice) that service was not included on our bill and then just left us with the POS terminal and tablet to complete the required form to process the bill but the system crashed. We got yelled at again for “doing it wrong” even though he couldn’t sort it either and got exactly the same result: 5) he called us out for not leaving a tip as we left the restaurant, but we were certainly not going to tip someone who had treated us as a major inconvenience and had made us uncomfortable the entire time. In hindsight, we should have just left following the first red flag but we were genuinely so shocked with his behaviour. It is a shame as the restaurant itself is decent, but this guy is dragging it down. Customers should not be expected to tolerate this unnecessary and abusive behaviour.

The best thing you can do if you don't know how to cook or buy good cod is not to put it on the menu. Inedible, dry, it must have been in the oven judging by what we had to wait an hour longer than we should have. We left the plates whole because it was like eating straw, we said so, they took it back and charged for it despite it being the most expensive I've had in the city. It is not a place to recommend

Bad meal. Poor quality floury sausage, vegetables served cold, etc. Nothing was taken advantage of, not even the music with the poor quality speaker that even after we asked to turn it off or reduce the sound, they didn't do it purely and simply out of stubbornness. It's worth adding that it has a pseudo heater that, unlike other restaurants in the area with a terrace, doesn't heat anything! The blanket they provided us with was worth it, which alleviated the cold and discomfort of a horrible dinner.

Local place on the promenade of Villanova De Gaia with magnificent views of the town of Porto ( 2 steps from Porto , practically beyond the Dom Luís Bridge I ) . In summer, in the evening you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. The menu includes most of the traditional dishes, cooked professionally and properly, from the entrances to the good fish and shellfish main courses. The service is "calibrated" on large numbers, professional then, but slightly hasty... you can still relax and between a bite and another enjoy the town of Porto and the riverside, frequented and full of bars, spots dedicated to tasting the legendary port and river tours. Recommended for those arriving in Porto.

Worst service for the entire Europe trip. I can’t believe we encountered such a rude waiter at a nice restaurant near river with decent food and atmosphere. The waiter served us is very impolite and rude, he kept raising his eyebrow and rolling his eyes. He cough at our dish and at our face without any intention to cover his mouth with hand or anything. He was even chewing food in his mouth while talking to us. The check was EUR70+ so i don’t believe it is one of those small food shops with limited hands and thus less services. We paid the full check but left even before they serve the main dish, this is how terrible the service is. I normally do not leave negative comments because I think it could be subjective sometimes. But except this one - I would NOT recommend this place to anyone simply because the service. Dining is all about the experience, and it is not pleasant at all regardless the food.

Because the food was so good at Taberninha do Manel we ate there three times during our Porto City break. The welcome was so genuine and friendly, the <mostly Portuguese> menu was varied and very reasonably priced, great location (beside Calem) and panoramic views too. Can't recommend it highly enough. *****

Ate here two times during my last stay in Porto, and both meals were fantastic. Everyone from the hostess to the servers to the chefs to the bartenders are top notch and do their best to make sure you have a wonderful dining experience. And if you sit outside, you can't beat the views of Porto lit up at night from the Gaia side of the river

After enjoying a cellar tour with drinks and Fado show, we wandered past the bars and restaurants on the side of the river enjoying the views and managed to get a table at this authentic tapas restaurant. It offers so much choice and everything is served on local pottery. Everything we ordered tasted delicious and arrived in stages so you had the chance to savour everything. The portion sizes are large so be aware of that when ordering. A fabulous place for food!!

For starters, we ordered two black pork risoles. Great. The main dish was codfish al bras. Delicious. So why only 2 stars? Food is not everything in a restaurant. The cordiality and friendliness of the service is a fundamental part of the gastronomic experience. And the service was a complete disaster. The waiter - a Portuguese man with a beard and glasses, who served the tables on the right side of those entering the restaurant - was bordering on rude. It wasn't just our impression: the table next to us commented on the terrible service provided by the same waiter. They had returned to the restaurant because of the quality of the food and the good service they received the first time. If you want to take a chance, sit at a table on the left and good luck! Make sure there are no tables rotating between waiters or you could be served by a troglodyte.

Very hectic... relaxed dining is different... main course very tasty, but potatoes were charged extra, and that was at 18 €! The starter (empanadas) was terrible and came AFTER the main course and not before, as ordered. Despite complaining (almost everything was returned), the starter was charged and no replacement was offered. With a bill of over 60 € for one person, that's just not acceptable. Service was inadequate!
