Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very welcoming
Not your traditional Chinese restaurant
Helped us with the menu and recommended dishes to try different food.
I really enjoyed the food, maybe smaller portions but more upmarket and it made a change and you don’t mind spending that bit extra.
Definitely recommend trying this restaurant as we would go back again

I like this place. It is maybe getting a bit tired relative to a lot of new restaurants in Horsham but there's no doubting the quality of the food. The restaurant is at the upper end of pricing but again, the food is good quality and the size of the dishes is good. The staff are always friendly and the service is prompt and efficient. I recommend.

China Brasserie announced their new menu in the last week so we decided to book an impromptu meal on Friday eve to check it out. We were seated upstairs where there were only 4 tables so nice and spaced out. The new menu now labels gluten free dishes which was very helpful for one of us. We have our favourite dishes here (smoked shredded chicken and crispy salt and pepper courgette starters amongst them) but we branched out this time and really enjoyed the soft shell crab and firecracker chicken wings. We also tried new mains of rendang chicken curry and a dry spiced sliced lamb (husband liked it, good quality lamb but he would have preferred some sort of sauce but the menu was clear so just his personal preference). We shared the new nasi goreng rice dish with these which was also tasty. Liked the new style serving dishes too.
So all good - nice to have some new menu options available to choose from. Photos of the new dishes we tried are attached.

We have had two takeaways during the latest lockdown and also during the last one (we don't normally have takeaways as we would rather eat in a restaurant or at home) but needs must! The quality of the food here far exceeds what we would consider to be a takeaway and agree with other reviews that the new menu is fabulous. We have tried different things and they have all been extremely tasty. Coupled with the very warm welcome...we Highly recommend and are looking forward very much to dining in soon when restaurants are allowed to open

It’s a real shame that I was disappointed in this restaurant as I had high hopes after all of the reviews. I chose two set menus for around £28 each so it’s not cheap but not expensive either. The starters were fine, the duck was also good although slightly overdone yet the mains were really disappointing. If you want Chinese food which is meat in gloopy sauces then you’ll be fine but I’m used to Chinese food with deep flavour, less sweetness and more vegetables. It was basically far too sweet. This may be down to lack of custom during lockdown meaning that it’s not affordable to buy the veg but it left me unhappy.

This restaurant has no soul, it employs teenagers with no personality or ability to make eye contact and they bring really forgettable food. Very disappointing. A very muddled restaurant that really needs to have a think about what they want to do / achieve

The food itself was of good quality; that’s the only positive about our otherwise disastrous birthday celebration.
When a booking is made for evening opening time and multiple dishes have been booked and paid for in advance one would expect to not have to wait an inordinate amount of time for food to arrive, although the waiting staff were very quick to take and deliver drinks orders…
We were a large birthday celebration party of about 15 people, arriving exactly as the place opened and numerous dishes had been ordered in advance for the group to share. I’m sorry to say this ‘restaurant’ didn’t have a clue. The waiting staff seemed very young and inexperienced. After a long wait one small bowl of food was served at one end of the long thin table so that once 2 or 3 people had taken a portion there was nothing left for anyone else. There was then a delay of at least 10 minutes and another small bowl of some other dish was served exactly the same way. And after this had happened several times they brought out the crispy aromatic duck (fortunately there was enough of this to go round, but then plenty had been ordered) and later the same system of bringing out a single dish at intervals was resumed.
Ludicrous.
The reason no complaint was made at the time was that the person whose birthday it was didn’t want to make a fuss for fear of being embarrassed.
One would think that if a party of people are attending and numerous dishes to share have been arranged in advance a restaurant would have the sense to bring the dishes out at the same time to the table so everyone can choose at the same time.
This could have been done with the starter dishes, then the crispy aromatic duck, then the main courses.
Sadly the portion sizes are very small here as well. Some of our party stayed on to order more food, and one of those was still so hungry when they left that they had to buy more food on the way home.
And although I informed our ‘waiter’ on arrival that it was a special birthday no special acknowledgment was given at all. I have been here before when they did add to the occasion; but as I’ve already mentioned, they didn’t have a clue this time around.

We had hot and sour soup. It was so sour we had to add honey.
The Chow Mein was just wrong; it looked like Won Ton noodles had been used.
The chicken in the curry was so dry that it was inedible.
I'm not sure if they have a different team in the kitchen on a Monday night but we were massively disappointed and a little angry that we had spent nearly £60 on something so substandard.

My wife visited the China Brasserie for the first time in over 15 years and were not disappointed. We shared the Hors D' oeurves and enjoyed all of the elements although I thought that the sauce on the honey barbecue spare ribs was dominated by the honey and a little disappointing (note I usually order Capital Spare ribs, or similar, from most Chinese restaurants). The Crispy Aromatic Duck dish was great though. For main course, we had special fried rice, chicken chow main and Char Sui Roast Pork Chinese style all of which was very tasty and good portion sizes.

We were running late, baby sitter troubles. My wife’s birthday and we wanted something special but quick. We explained our predicament; we’re quickly seated and orders taken.
Wow, the meal was so fresh. Chinese can at times feel greasy but our three dishes were light and satisfying.
We shared crispy beef, crispy pork belly and chicken chow main.
Staff were polite and attentive.
We arrived at the Capitol theatre just in time. This meal kicked off a lovely evening.

We booked a table here for our 5th wedding anniversary◡̈
The food was incredible. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The portions were so generous and the price was really good so overall great value for money.
I’m not a big fan of putting anything negative in a review - however just a heads up … maybe this is only at the weekends but the staff seemed either too busy or uninterested. They were very attentive so always at the table but always asking have we finished yet and without a smile but maybe it was an off night and the food was so good it didn’t matter overall.

We have eaten here several times since lockdown and each time the food and service has been excellent.
The menu has been revamped by Yee with several new fish dishes and which as always are beautifully presented and very tasty, and the duck with pancakes is still the best anywhere.
Service is always welcoming and friendly and we are looking forward to going back again soon.

Another visit to Horsham's premier Chinese restaurant didn't disappoint. We had a table upstairs, but were not neglected - service was attentive and timely, obviously been kept an eye on our progress as different courses arrived at right times, without feeling rushed at all. And the food is very tasty - prefer ordering small plates to make the most of the culinary experience.
