The service and food were great. I loved the candle light setting and the place having that antique feel. I think even children would enjoy this because everything sparks a conversation and they learn so much.

My wife and I wanted to experience the local made food for lunch, and they did not disappoint!! The service was very good and staff was friendly as usual. We got the Ann Shields' White Beans, Kale & Sausage and the Beef Pastry. Both of which were SUPER delicious! We also got the Tavern House Salad. Simple, but the house... More

Although there was a long line, due in part to one of two other taverns being closed this day, we only had to wait 20 minutes for our party of six. Our orders included their Vegetable Sandwich, Tarragon Chicken, Chicken Addon, Swiss Dip, and the Apple Sallet. Each was prepared well and rather tasty. Hot Cider, a Rummer, and an... More

Shields lived up to our expectations after our last visit five years prior. Lunch was delicious as we enjoyed the barbecue and cole slaw. The holiday spirit was evident as a young lady in colonial attire strolled to each room of the tavern and entertained diners with violin renditions of various Christmas songs. We appreciated the fact that she took... More

We had a nice dinner at this tavern. We were seated by reservations early and were led to a basement room with dim lighting and tables with ladder back chairs with cane seats. Very colonial. Staff of course in period costume as was the gentleman playing the recorder and guitar. food was good. Beef, very tender as was the pork.... More

It's been many years since we have had the opportunity to enjoy the pleasant feeling of yesteryear at Shield's, and we weren't disappointed. The lively music and delicious food combined to make for a relaxing evening. We are so glad we took the time to dine at Shield"s this Christmas season! The Thomases

We had a good dining experience at Shield's. We tried the salmon and the seared pork and both were cooked well and with good portions. Not sure everyone will like the mashed potatoes and succotash (peas, butterbeans, corn, tomatoes mixed together) that comes with it, but I'm sure they can help in that matter. Had the hot apple cider, a... More

I feel like the taverns in Williamsburg are an essential part of the experience people are looking for when they come to visit. So when we brought visitors here, I made sure to book a table at one of the Taverns. The Shield's Tavern is a little less authentic in menu than the King's Arms, but it's also a touch... More

With our daughter and two grandkids in for the Holiday’s we opted for one of our dinners at Shield’s Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg. To begin with reservations are a must and available through Open Table. Parking is available across Francis Street about a 10 minute walk to the rear garden of the tavern. We were seated in the wine cellar... More

Great atmosphere, great service, tasty food, but not enough of it. I've been feeling this way about portions at lots of places in Williamsburg though, so maybe it's a regional thing.

Thank Laura F
