I recently returned to visit Williamsburg after four years. I really looked forward to returning to the bake shop to get the ginger cakes but was disappointed. Instead of the big counter with fresh baked goods, they had a long row of coolers with pre-prepared salads and sandwiches and a small counter with a few old based goods. There was... More

The Bakeshop is off the beaten path. We were glad we found it as I had two young and hungry kids with me. The sandwiches were affordable and there are picnic tables out back which make it a great place to eat a quiet inexpensive lunch. Plus they have beer ;)

This was a dissapointment. Last time we went they were actually baking in the brick oven and it smelled so good. Now everything looks like modern day prepackaged food in a gas station or bus station. The line was very very long so we had high expectations....which were very quickly deflated...

Just behind the Raleigh Tavern, find cookies baked in a brick oven. Sally Lund bread fresh every morning and other sweets. Drinks and packaged salads and sandwiches are available for quick eats too

The Raleigh Tavern is famous for their gingerbread cookies. It is best if you get them fresh from the oven. They also have some other fine goods for sale.

I loved the apple cake but the peanut butter cookies and sandwiches are delicious too. You get your food and sit outside in a nice setting.

The bakeshop used to be great, You went in and they were, gasp!, BAKING things! Now? It is a 7-11 complete with drink coolers and prepackeged crap. Gone are the days of a fire in the hearth and the delightful smell of something baking. They have actually taken the building and crammed a convenience store into it. It may have... More

You can actually walk past this place without realizing you're right beside a bakery with lots of yummy goodies, albeit somewhat overpriced. Be sure to go in and sample one of their delectable treats.

The Raleigh Tavern Bakeshop is a nice stop for a quick snack while touring the historic area. Delicious apple cider, coffee, tea, soft drinks and bottled waters are always available. Pre-made sandwiches and cheeses are ready for take-out in the refrigerated case, but don't stop there....try their famous ginger cakes, sugar and oatmeal cookies, and an apple pasty...all from 18th-century...
